Social Isolation Among Older Adults in the Time of COVID-19: A Gender Perspective.

We aimed to analyze inequalities in social isolation among older adults in a time of COVID-19 social restrictions, using a gender perspective. A random population-based survey, including 21,543 older adults (65+) was conducted during and post COVID-19 lockdown in France. Our main outcome was a three-dimension indicator of social isolation based on living conditions, i.e., living alone (i) and not having gone out in the past week (ii), completed by an indicator measuring Internet use i.e., never using the Internet (iii). Logistic regressions were used to identify factors associated with isolati

Using Google Trends to assess global public interest in osteoarthritis.

To evaluate global public interest in osteoarthritis by assessing changes in Internet search popularity of the disease over a 10-year period. Google Trends was used to obtain search popularity scores for the word "osteoarthritis" (OA) between January 2004 and June 2018. We also analyzed changes in search volume relative to changes in search patterns for all health topics. Search interest in OA was high relative to all other health searches over the given timeframe. Overall, searches for OA steadily decreased between May 2004 and December 2012 and then steadily rose from January 2013 to April 2

Structural and environmental factors are associated with internalised homonegativity in men who have sex with men: findings from the European MSM Internet Survey (EMIS) in 38 countries.

Internalised homonegativity refers to a gay person's negative feelings about homosexuality and is believed to stem from negative societal stereotypes and attitudes towards homosexuality. Surprisingly, little research has centred on this link. In this research, we aimed to examine the associations between internalised homonegativity and structural forces, cultural influence, and access to sexual health promotion measures among a sample of 144,177 men who have sex with men (MSM) in 38 European countries. Participants were recruited as part of the European MSM Internet Survey (EMIS) during 2010.

Internet use and early syphilis infection among men who have sex with men--San Francisco, California, 1999-2003.

During the summer of 1999, an outbreak of early syphilis among men who have sex with men (MSM) who met their sex partners on the Internet presaged a rapidly expanding syphilis epidemic in San Francisco. By 2002, San Francisco had the highest rates of primary and secondary syphilis of any metropolitan area in the United States. During 1998-2002, the number of early syphilis cases increased, from 41 cases in 1998 to 495 cases in 2002. Concomitant with the increase in early syphilis was an increase in the proportion of cases among MSM, from 22% in 1998 to 88% in 2002. To assess the association be

Barriers to sexual and reproductive health information among young Black women in the USA: caregiver and structural influences.

Young Black women in the USA face systemic barriers to accessing accurate sexual and reproductive health (SRH) knowledge, relying on peers or the internet due to inadequate education and cultural biases. This reliance can lead to SRH misinformation. This study aimed to identify the barriers they encountered in obtaining SRH information. A qualitative approach was used to collect data from 37 young Black women aged 18-22, and 32 caregivers from Connecticut. Participants were divided into five focus groups and asked questions related to SRH education, accessibility, and needs. Data were analysed

Understanding the Steps Toward Mobile Early Intervention for Mothers and Their Infants Exiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Descriptive Examination.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) history, combined with systemic inequities for mothers of nondominant cultures and mothers who are socioeconomically disadvantaged, places infants at an extraordinary risk for poor developmental outcomes throughout life. Although receipt of early intervention (EI) is the best single predictor of developmental outcomes among children with and at risk for early developmental delays, mothers and infants with the greatest needs are least likely to receive EI. Mobile internet-based interventions afford substantial advantages for overcoming logistical

COVID-19 Vaccination and Gaps in India.

INTRODUCTION: The important variables that influence how many people are vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in India include vaccine skepticism, socioeconomic status, and multi-dimensional deprivation. Our preliminary research suggests that uncertainty about the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine has a large and detrimental effect on immunization rates. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Crucial Subsets Survey (CSS) is performed daily on Facebook to recruit participants for cross-section surveys by academic institutions, the Delphi Research Center, and the University of Maryland's Joint Pr

Internet-Based Germline Genetic Testing for Men With Metastatic Prostate Cancer.

PURPOSE: Germline mutations in DNA repair genes are present in approximately 10% of men with metastatic prostate cancer (mPC), and guidelines recommend genetic germline testing. Notable barriers exist, including access to genetic counseling, insurance coverage, and out-of-pocket costs. The GENTleMEN study was designed to determine the feasibility of an Internet-based, patient-driven germline genetic testing approach for men with mPC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, men with mPC provided informed consent via an Internet-based platform and completed a questionnaire inclu

Evaluation of an internet-based aftercare program to improve vocational reintegration after inpatient medical rehabilitation: study protocol for a cluster-randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders are the main reasons for rising proportions of premature pension in most high-income countries. Although inpatient medical rehabilitation has increasingly targeted work-related stress, there is still a lack of studies on the transfer of work-specific interventions into work contexts. Therefore, we plan to evaluate an online aftercare program aiming to improve vocational reintegration after medical rehabilitation. METHODS: Vocationally strained patients (n = 800) aged between 18 and 59 years with private internet access are recruited in psychosomatic, orthopedic an
