The alteration of dorsal attention network in internet gaming disorder and tobacco use disorder: an independent component analysis.

Previous studies have shown that individuals with internet gaming disorder (IGD) and tobacco use disorder (TUD) represent nonsubstance and substance-related addictions, respectively. Identifying neuroimaging differences is essential for detecting and intervening in these disorders. 44 IGD participants, 73 TUD participants, and 33 healthy controls (HCs) were scanned with resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI). We used independent component analysis (ICA) to identify regions of interest and compared the functional connectivity between groups using a false discovery rate correction. Rs-fMRI revealed increa

The impact of internet use on physical activity among Chinese older adults: the mediating role of social support.

BACKGROUND: The positive impact of Internet use on enhancing physical activity among older adults is an important response to the aging problem in the new era. However, while previous studies have explored the important impact of Internet use on physical activity among older adults, the specific mechanisms of this impact have not been much analyzed. In an attempt to answer this question, we further focus on the mediating role of social support in the relationship between Internet use and physical activity among older adults. METHODS: This study utilizes data from the 2021 China General Social

Usability of the inductive tongue computer interface: Internet use, speaking, and drinking - evaluated by two users with disabilities.

Tongue computer interfaces have shown promising for both computer control and for control of assistive technologies and robotics. Still, evidence is lacking in relation to their usability resulting in speculations on their effectiveness for general computer use and their impact on other activities such as speaking, drinking, and eating. This paper presents the results of such a usability study performed with two individuals with tetraplegia. The results show a high acceptance of the Inductive Tongue Computer Interface with an average rating of 2.6 on a scale from 1 (normal) to 10 (unacceptable

Parental attachment security and problematic internet use in children: The mediating role of maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies.

Problematic Internet Use (PIU) is a growing problem among children. Insecure attachment has been associated with PIU and emotion dysregulation. Furthermore, there is evidence suggesting that maladaptive Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies (CERS), such as Self-blame, Rumination, Catastrophizing and Other-blame, lead to PIU, nevertheless, the mediating role of CERS between attachment and PIU has not been explored. A sample of 641 children (M = 10.15; SD = .89) participated in the study. The findings showed that there were significant differences between problematic and non-problematic users

Internet gaming disorder and tobacco use disorder share neural connectivity patterns between the subcortical and the motor network.

Internet gaming disorder (IGD) and tobacco use disorder (TUD) are globally common, non-substance-related disorders and substance-related disorders worldwide, respectively. Recognizing the commonalities between IGD and TUD will deepen understanding of the underlying mechanisms of addictive behavior and excessive online gaming. Using node strength, 141 resting-state data were collected in this study to compute network homogeneity. The participants included participants with IGD (PIGD: n = 34, male = 29, age: 15-25 years), participants with TUD (PTUD: n = 33, male = 33, age: 19-42 years), and mat

Stressful life events and problematic internet use in adolescence: Mediation of psychological capital and moderation of school level.

INTRODUCTION: While abundant cross-sectional studies have examined the relationship between stress and problematic internet use (PIU), little is known about the underlying mechanism through which stress influences the development of PIU. To elucidate the mechanism in facilitation of prevention and treatment of PIU, this study tested a moderated mediation model using a longitudinal design in which the impact of stressful life events on PIU was mediated by psychological capital (PsyCap); the dependence of this mediation link on participants' developmental stage was further evaluated. METHODS: A

Breakingtheice: a protocol for a randomised controlled trial of an internet-based intervention addressing amphetamine-type stimulant use.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of amphetamine-type stimulant use is greater than that of opioids and cocaine combined. Currently, there are no approved pharmacotherapy treatments for amphetamine-type stimulant problems, but some face-to-face psychotherapies are of demonstrated effectiveness. However, most treatment services focus on alcohol or opioid disorders, have limited reach and may not appeal to users of amphetamine-type stimulants. Internet interventions have proven to be effective for some substance use problems but none has specifically targeted users of amphetamine-type stimulants. DESI

Internet use and early syphilis infection among men who have sex with men--San Francisco, California, 1999-2003.

During the summer of 1999, an outbreak of early syphilis among men who have sex with men (MSM) who met their sex partners on the Internet presaged a rapidly expanding syphilis epidemic in San Francisco. By 2002, San Francisco had the highest rates of primary and secondary syphilis of any metropolitan area in the United States. During 1998-2002, the number of early syphilis cases increased, from 41 cases in 1998 to 495 cases in 2002. Concomitant with the increase in early syphilis was an increase in the proportion of cases among MSM, from 22% in 1998 to 88% in 2002. To assess the association be
