BACKGROUND: Small-bowel tumors are rare and account for 1-2% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms. Most of these tumors are found at surgery indicated for other diagnosis or intestinal obstruction. The rarity, unclear presentation and diagnostic difficulty of these tumors stimulated our interest to review our experience with emergency surgery for intestinal obstruction secondary to jejunoileal tumors.
METHODS: We reviewed 17 patients operated on for intestinal obstruction secondary to benign and malignant primary tumors of jejunum and ileum at our institution the last 10 years.

Large bowel obstruction is a known surgical emergency. Common causes include malignancies of the colon and benign conditions, including hernias, adhesions, and other less common conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, and tuberculosis. The duodenum is the second most common location of intestinal diverticula. Periampullary duodenal diverticulum rarely causes obstructive jaundice and this condition was first described by German surgeon Gerhard Lemmel in 1934. Appropriately balanced RET signaling is of crucial importance during embryonic neural crest cell migration, proliferation and differentiation. Phyllodes tumors are rare fibroepithelial neoplasms of the breast; classified as benign, borderline, or malignant based on the mitotic activity, cellular atypia, and stromal overgrowth. Wide surgical excision is the treatment of choice. The most common locations for metastasis are lung, bone, and liver; small intestinal metastasis is extremely rare. Here we present the first patient with jejunal metastases and intussusception due to malignant phyllodes tumor of the breast. Adjuvant treatment of malignant phyllodes tumor needs to be investigated.

Spontaneous tumours of the rat small intestine are extremely rare. A control Sprague-Dawley male rat from a carcinogenicity bioassay had a mucinous adenocarcinoma in the ileum. This review updates the pharmacological properties, adverse effects and therapeutic pleiotropism of metformin applied to the treatment of diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, appetite regulation, intestinal flora dysbiosis, cardiovascular and renal protection, treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, reduction of risk and mortality from various neoplasms, and prolongation of lifespan.

INTRODUCTION: Testicular neoplasms metastasizing to the retroperitoneum rarely involve the upper gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal tract metastases usually present with complications including intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and rarely ulceration of the bowel mucosa.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe an unusual case of duodenal perforation as the presenting manifestation of metastatic classic type seminoma in a 45-year-old man.
CONCLUSION: Germ cell tumor diagnosis should be considered when an ulcerating small bowel mass is identified in a young man.
