The relationships between high-risk and problem drinking and the occurrence of work injuries and related absences.

A review of studies on the relationship between alcohol and work injuries revealed that the evidence is contradictory and that many of the studies contain methodological flaws. The present study aimed to determine whether there are relationships between problem drinking and high alcohol consumption and outcomes such as work injuries and related absences. The sample consisted of 833 employees at an industrial worksite. Problem drinking was measured by the Mortimer-Filkins test, while alcohol consumption was measured by a 7-day retrospective diary. Work injury data were obtained from medical rep

The Impact of Compassion Fatigue, Burnout, and Bullying on Correctional Nurses.

Multiple factors, including burnout and bullying, lead nurses to consider alternative career paths or early retirement, thereby creating a shortage of nurses. This study examined the impact of compassion fatigue, burnout, and bullying on correctional nurses. This study utilized a mixed-method approach combining quantitative correlational research and qualitative grounded theory to compare the relationships among variables, including demographics, levels of compassion fatigue, burnout, and bullying. Using SurveyMonkey, an emailed survey included the Professional Quality of Life Scale, the Negat

Wellness and Career Sustainability in Neurology.

This article reviews drivers of well-being in neurology, using the practice of neuromuscular neurology as an example and high-yield interventions to enhance professional fulfillment. Neurologist burnout, once viewed as a consequence of insufficient personal resilience and poor stress coping strategies, is now recognized as an occupational syndrome resulting from a mismatch between demands and resources. Expert consensus now recognizes that even highly resilient physicians can experience low professional well-being when faced with long-term exposure to human suffering and death, which are commo

Exploring Professional Autonomy Among Palestinian Nurses: A Comprehensive Scoping Review of Determinants, Barriers and Clinical Practice Implications.

AIM: To systematically map the determinants, expressions and implications of nurses' clinical autonomy in Palestinian healthcare settings. BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION: Nurses' autonomy is crucial for quality care, job satisfaction and patient safety. In Palestine, the healthcare system operates under unique political instability and resource constraints, yet a comprehensive synthesis of nursing autonomy in this context is lacking. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted following PRISMA-ScR guidelines. PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Al-Manhal and Arab World Research

A rapid review of time management strategies among nurse managers.

BACKGROUND: Time management practice is the act of influencing one's behavioural dimensions to complete as many tasks as possible within a specified amount of time. These behavioural dimensions include work organization and the continued application of time management techniques. Good time management, such as setting goals and priorities, as well as planning and delegating tasks, can facilitate productivity and success, contributing to work effectiveness, maintaining balance and job satisfaction. Conversely, poor time management has been associated with poor quality of work, low productivity,

Professional identity satisfaction among radiotherapy technologists and medical physicists in Morocco: A cross-sectional survey.

INTRODUCTION: Professional identity is increasingly recognised as a key determinant of workforce wellbeing, interprofessional collaboration, and staff retention within the medical radiation sciences. However, many quantitative studies rely on a single global indicator of professional identity, which limits understanding of the specific dimensions that may be most affected and amenable to organisational intervention. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of Moroccan radiotherapy professionals, radiation therapy technologists (RTTs) and medical physicists (MPs). Identity satisfaction w

Evaluation of a Palliative and End-of-Life Care Education Program for Healthcare Workers.

With growing global demand for high-quality palliative and end-of-life care in community-based settings, continuing education for care staff has become increasingly important. However, access to structured education remains limited, particularly in long-term care facilities. This study evaluated a palliative and end-of-life care education program comprising an education session and a focus group discussion using an embedded mixed-methods design. Thirty-nine healthcare workers from a small-scale, community-based facility participated in this study, and the online education was evaluated measuri

Prevalence of subjective symptoms among hospital pharmacists and association with drug compounding practices.

In Japan, the principal role of hospital pharmacists has changed from that of dispensing medicines for outpatients to provision of clinical pharmacy services for inpatients. A self-administered questionnaire about subjective symptoms, working patterns, work environments and job satisfaction was administered to 495 hospital pharmacists and 84 prefectural office-based pharmacists (control group). The response rates were 63.4% and 90.5%, respectively. Hospital pharmacists showed a higher prevalence of nasal symptoms than that shown by the control office-based pharmacist group. The prevalence rate

The voice of the second-level regulated nursing role: a qualitative approach.

BACKGROUND: With an international nursing shortage, there is a need to navigate towards an improved nursing workforce structure where each nursing role is valued and recognised for the work they contribute. The second-level regulated nursing role is seen as integral; however, there is role confusion, especially with the registered nurse, and high attrition. To implement strategies to retain an integral nursing workforce, there is a need to better understand the role from the experiences and expectations of the second-level regulated nursing role. AIM: To gain a better understanding of the sec

General practitioner burnout: A practical model to identify solutions.

BACKGROUND: Research increasingly highlights that building meaningfulness is a promising approach to mitigating burnout among doctors. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to describe a practical model that identifies opportunities for everyday tasks to be adapted to better support general practitioners' (GPs') wellbeing. DISCUSSION: The model integrates research with GPs and other doctors highlighting the centrality of meaningfulness and integrates this with the Job Demands- Resources model. Each task comprises demands that require the GP to invest energy. This investment can vary based on w

A systematic review and meta-analysis of job motivation and associated factors among health workers in Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Low job motivation among healthcare workers is a significant issue in the healthcare system, particularly in low-income countries such as Ethiopia, where health professionals face low remuneration, inadequate benefits, and poor working conditions. Shortage of motivated health workers has a significantly negative impact on the quality of healthcare services. In Ethiopia, there is no representative or summarized data on the level of motivation among health workers. We synthesized the pooled level of job motivation and its determinants among Ethiopian health workers. METHODS: A compr

Why "good jobs" are good for retailers.

Too many retail managers believe that they must offer bad jobs to keep prices low. As a result, almost one-fifth of American workers suffer low wages, poor benefits, constantly changing schedules, and few opportunitie for advancement. The author's research reveals, however, that the presumed trade-off between investment in employees and low prices is false. To meet short-term performance targets, many retailers cut labor. The unmotivated and poorly trained employees who remain often cannot keep up with their tasks in a complex operating environment. The result is a vicious cycle, in which lowe

Professional death avoidance and associated factors among intensive care unit nurses in China: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Nurses in intensive care units (ICUs) frequently encounter patient death, ethical dilemmas, and emotionally demanding clinical situations. These experiences may be associated with emotional exhaustion, moral distress, and professional death avoidance. Professional death avoidance refers to a work-context-specific tendency to distance oneself from death-related professional situations, including communication, care tasks, emotional engagement, and reflection related to patient death. Understanding the current status of professional death avoidance and its associated factors is impor
