Development and Utility of Practical Indicators of Critical Outcomes in Dengue Patients Presenting to Hospital: A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study.

Global travel and climate change have drastically increased the number of countries with endemic or epidemic dengue. The largest dengue outbreak in Taiwan, with 43,419 cases and 228 deaths, occurred in 2015. Practical and cost-effective tools for early prediction of clinical outcomes in dengue patients, especially the elderly, are limited. This study identified the clinical profile and prognostic indicators of critical outcomes in dengue patients on the basis of clinical parameters and comorbidities. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary hospital from 1 July 2015 to

Production of Biosurfactant by Streptomyces luridus So3.2 Using Commercial and Recycled Frying Oils in a Stirred-Tank Bioreactor.

Biosurfactants are sustainable alternatives to petroleum-derived surfactants, yet their industrial application is often constrained by production costs and process efficiency. This study aimed to evaluate biosurfactant production by the psychrotolerant Antarctic bacterium Streptomyces luridus So3.2 using low-cost recycled frying oils under mild cultivation conditions and to validate the process in stirred-tank bioreactors. Cultivation conditions were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM), and the same optimized pH and carbon source concentration were subsequently applied in stirre

Predictive correlations and mechanical assessment of asphalt mixtures modified by sasobit redux and crumb rubber.

To satisfy advanced pavement design methodologies such as the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG), accurate characterization of asphalt mixtures through parameters like the dynamic modulus│E*│is critical. However, obtaining these parameters via advanced laboratory testing demands specialized equipment and complex configurations. This study addresses this limitation by developing empirical correlations to predict│E*│and shear triaxial resistance (STR) directly from conventional, highly accessible laboratory tests, specifically Marshall, unconfined direct compression, indirect te

D-dimer as a Predictor of ICU Admission and Mortality in COVID-19 Patients: Insights From a Two-Year Retrospective Study From a Tertiary Care Center in South India.

Introduction Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-induced pneumonitis results in a prothrombotic and hypercoagulable state. Prognostic indicators are crucial for identifying patients at risk of complications. D-dimer, a degradation product of cross-linked fibrin, is a specific marker for thrombosis. Elevated D-dimer levels have been strongly correlated with poor prognosis and increased severity of illness in COVID-19 patients. Given D-dimer's eight-hour half-life, periodic measurement is necessary to track disease progression. This study aimed to analyze and derive thre
