This is a review/modeling study of heating of tissue by microwave energy in the frequency range from 3 GHz through the millimeter frequency range (30-300 GHz). The literature was reviewed to identify studies that reported RF-induced increases in skin temperature. AIM: The aim of this study was to estimate the feasibility and therapeutic effectiveness of percutaneous microwave ablation in the treatment of hypersplenism in cirrhosis.
METHODS: Forty-one cirrhosis patients with hypersplenism were treated with ultrasonography-guided percutaneous microwave ablation between February 2007 and August 2011. Peripheral blood cell counts, portal vein diameter, splenic vein diameter, and blood flow of splenic vein were evaluated before and after the operation, and complications of the treatment were also investigated. All patients were followed up for 24 months.

The present study describes the use of a microwave processing protocol for the rapid histopathological and immunohistochemical diagnosis of bovine rabies. Immunohistochemistry has been used for rabies diagnosis in formalin-fixed tissue with satisfactory results, although the time to diagnosis is considerably longer than that with direct immunofluorescence. A one-pot synthesis of cyclopentanone derivatives from phosphorus ylide under lab-type microwave assisted methodology was described. The phosphorus ylides were obtained via the reaction of activated acetylenic compounds, ethyl 4-chloroacetoacetate and triphenylphosphine. The structure of phosphorus ylides was assigned by ¹H, ¹³C and ³¹PNMR. The phosphorus ylides as precursor were crystallized as two enantiomers (R,R) and (S,S) and one of the phosphorus ylide structures was confirmed by single X-ray crystallography.

Ag-doped CdS nanoparticles were synthesized by an ultrasound-assisted microwave synthesis method. The X-ray diffraction patterns reveal a structural evolution from cubic to hexagonal with increasing molar ratios of Ag(+)/Cd(2+) from 0% to 5%. From July 1992 through March 1999, 213 patients with malignant bone tumors of the extremities (176 patients) and pelvis (37 patients) were treated by microwave-induced hyperthermia. PURPOSE: We designed a survey to assess the microwave sterilization technique practiced by patients at our clinic who perform clean intermittent catheterization.
