Error Detection-Based Model to Assess Educational Outcomes in Crisis Resource Management Training: A Pilot Study.

Otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (OTL-HNS) residents face a variety of difficult, high-stress situations, which may occur early in their training. Since these events occur infrequently, simulation-based learning has become an important part of residents' training and is already well established in fields such as anesthesia and emergency medicine. In the domain of OTL-HNS, it is gradually gaining in popularity. Crisis Resource Management (CRM), a program adapted from the aviation industry, aims to improve outcomes of crisis situations by attempting to mitigate human errors. Some examples of

Evaluating GPT-4 Responses on Scars or Keloids for Patient Education: Large Language Model Evaluation Study.

BACKGROUND: Scars and keloids impose significant physical and psychological burdens on patients, often leading to functional limitations, cosmetic concerns, and mental health issues such as anxiety or depression. Patients increasingly turn to online platforms for information; however, existing web-based resources on scars and keloids are frequently unreliable, fragmented, or difficult to understand. Large language models such as GPT-4 show promise for delivering medical information, but their accuracy, readability, and potential to generate hallucinated content require validation for patient e

Development and pilot evaluation of a large language model-based clinical simulation system for medical education in gastroenterology.

BACKGROUND: Medical education relies on experience to develop clinical reasoning skills, yet patient access is often limited. Large language models (LLMs) offer an accessible alternative for simulating patient encounters. We aimed to develop and evaluate an LLM-based clinical simulation system for gastroenterology that simulates entire clinical encounters in natural language, from history-taking through to treatment and follow-up planning. METHODS: The study was conducted in three phases. First, a system comprising an LLM-based clinical case generator, an LLM-based patient simulator, and a we

The impact of the women's medical education ban in Afghanistan on service coverage and maternal and neonatal mortality: a modelling study.

BACKGROUND: Afghanistan has made remarkable progress in addressing its high maternal and neonatal mortality rates between 2001 and 2021. Recent restrictions banning midwifery and nursing education for women risk reversing these gains. Using scenario-based modelling, this study examined the potential long-term impact of the ban on service coverage and mortality. METHODS: In this modelling study, we developed four scenarios reflecting slow versus fast attrition among women nurses and midwives and the possibility of male substitution and simulated projected changes in care seeking for six servic
