Syringomatous carcinoma is a rare cutaneous neoplasm, most frequently situated on the face and scalp and histologically characterised by an infiltrative pattern of basaloid or squamous cells, a desmoplastic stromal reaction and keratin filled cysts. We report the case of a 76-year-old woman who presented an ulcerative interscapular lesion measuring 3x4cm. After resection, the histological examinations of the specimens have identified a basal cell carcinoma. However, a local recurrence was observed 18 months later; histopathological findings showed a syringomatous pattern and neoplastic epithel

Pleomorphic dermal sarcoma is a cutaneous soft tissue sarcoma that presents as a rapidly enlarging tumor, typically on a sun-exposed location of elderly individuals. The neoplasm shares many similar features - clinical, pathologic, immunohistochemical and genomic - with atypical fibroxanthoma. However, adverse histologic characteristics (deep subcutaneous invasion, tumor necrosis, lymphovascular invasion, and/or perineural invasion) differentiate pleomorphic dermal sarcoma from atypical fibroxanthoma and may account for the more aggressive biologic behavior of pleomorphic dermal sarcoma: local

Fibropapillomatosis continues to be an important cause of morbidity and mortality in sea turtles, particularly in Chelonia mydas. Turtles with this debilitating herpesvirus disease usually present with multiple, large, and ulcerated cutaneous masses that compromise both locomotion and feeding. There are very few available therapeutic strategies, with surgical excision being the most common. However, this surgical excision is associated with a high rate of local disease recurrence and secondary infections. Electrochemotherapy has been used for the treatment of epithelial neoplasm in several ani

INTRODUCTION: Neoplastic changes represent an important part of cystic deposits in pancreas. It is morphologically non-homogenous group of neoplasms with different occurrence depending on sex and age, different localization and different biologic properties. The aim of the paper is to remind current knowledge of this topic and confront it with our own experience.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Together 13 patients with histologically proved cystic neoplasm of pancreas underwent surgery during the period of ten years from 1997 to 2007. They represent 6% of all patients operated for pancreatic tumor (21

Introduction. Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm. Although benign in the majority of the cases, these neoplasms usually present a locally infiltrative nature and high rates of recurrence. Due to its rarity, misdiagnosis is a common problem. Case Presentation. We present one case of aggressive angiomyxoma in a 25-year-old pregnant woman. The patient presented with a large vaginal mass that was interpreted as a vaginal cyst. We performed surgical resection of the neoplasm and the correct diagnosis was only achieved after histological examination. With this case, we highlight t

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign locally destructive bone neoplasm composed of multi-loculated blood-filled cystic spaces. The most common sites of involvement are the meta-diaphysis of the long bones and posterior elements of the vertebrae. Secondary, ABC-like changes can complicate a variety of other benign and malignant primary bone neoplasms, including giant cell tumor, fibrous dysplasia, and osteosarcoma. About two-third of primary ABCs have a rearrangement of the USP6 gene, which is not present in the ABC-like changes that occur secondary to other primary bone tumors (i.e., seconda

Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the ear pose a diagnostic challenge because clinical symptoms are no specific. Definite diagnosis is made by histopathological analysis with immunohystochemical evalutation. Therapy consists in a complete surgical resection. Controversial terminology of the neoplasm arises from the differentiation of these tumors composed of both endocrine and exocrine glands. Middle ear localization is an extremely rare presentation but less aggressive than gastrointestinal tract or lung localizations which are the most frequent. Radio-diagnostic analyses are necessary follow-up fo

BACKGROUND: Trans-duodenal ampullectomy (TDA) is a surgical option for the treatment of selected ampullary neoplasms. The aim of this study was to evaluate our experience with TDA for the treatment of ampullary neoplasms, focusing on indications, technical aspects, and short- and long-term outcomes.
METHODS: All TDAs for ampullary neoplasms performed between January 2010 and December 2018 at our institution were retrospectively evaluated. Patients had ampullary neoplasms with low-grade dysplasia or in situ carcinoma (Tis) not suitable for an endoscopic approach, ampullary carcinoma unfit for

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Surveillance after thymic epithelial tumors (TETs) is widely recommended yet poorly studied. While this is not a situation unique to TETs, we seek to evaluate the rational of surveillance after treatment of TETs and summarize current available guidelines.
METHODS: A literature review was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE and Google Scholar databases. Articles were included if they discussed the following: (I) the epidemiology and natural history of TETs; (II) the diagnosis of recurrent TETs; (III) the treatment and outcomes of recurrent TETs; (IV) current available guideli

INTRODUCTION: Malignant fibrohistiocytoma is one of the rare neoplasms of the larynx. It has nonepithelial origin. The most common sites of the neoplasm are: limbs, trunk and retroperitoneal space. Other localizations within head and neck are very rare. There are 5 histologic types. The most common is pleomorphic type. It is built of histiocytes, fibroblasts and multinuclear giant cells. An examination of the neoplasms consists of microscopic and immunohistologic examination with identification specific tissue markers and intermediate filaments of proteins. Treatment methods of the neoplasms a

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is an extremely rare mesenchymal neoplasm usually detected in the pleura, which generally follows a benign course. The localization inside lung parenchyma has more rarely been reported. We present a case of a 51-year-old male with a dry cough, dyspnea, chest pain, and increased perspiration. Radiological images revealed a giant circumscribed mass on the right side of the chest. A transbronchial cryobiopsy of the lung was performed and revealed an SFT. The right upper lobectomy through lateral thoracotomy was performed. The pathological examination confirmed an SFT

Cutaneous angiosarcoma of the scalp is a rare malignant neoplasm of endothelial cells which occurs predominantly in elderly Caucasian males. The etiology is unknown; however the most common association is prior radiation exposure. The diagnosis is often delayed due to misinterpretation for other lesions, including trauma-related bruising and infectious processes such as abscess. Radiologic imaging is non-diagnostic but can be helpful in defining the extent of local disease, as well as distant metastases. Prognosis is poor with a five-year survival rate of less than 30 percent. Treatment guidel

BACKGROUND: Myxomas are rare, locally infiltrative, benign neoplasms of mesenchymal origin. Although benign, these tumors are locally aggressive with a high rate of recurrence following conservative resection. Their relative infrequency, variable location, and insidious growth present a diagnostic challenge to clinicians. Cases of myxomas have been described throughout the body, but intraosseous myxomas of the orbit are exceedingly rare.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report a case of a 53-year-old male with a history of chronic sinusitis and symptoms of hyposmia and bifrontal headaches refractory medi

Locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) remains one of the most challenging problems in the rectal cancer management, despite advances in multimodal treatments. R0 resection remains the cornerstone of curative therapy and the most critical prognostic factor. However, achieving R0 resection is technically demanding, with outcomes heavily influenced by tumor location, institutional expertise, and careful patient selection. This narrative review summarizes current surgical strategies for LRRC, emphasizing the importance of accurate anatomical classification, multidisciplinary collaboration, and in

Solitary Fibrous Tumours (SFTs) of the pleura are rare neoplasms, with unpredictable biological behaviour. Although usually benign, malignant SFTs are described, and they are often associated with large, necrotic and locally invasive tumours. Radical resection represents the treatment of choice in all cases; recurrences are uncommon, and redo-surgery should be considered. The case of a giant, invasive, radically resected malignant SFT, is described. The role of postoperative radiotherapy, to reduce the risk of recurrence, is also discussed.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a locally malignant neoplasm derived from fibrous tissue. Similar picture of such lesions to malignant tumors as well as to benign changes creates a risk of too gentle treatment and consequently of recurrence and malignant transformation of the lesions with possible remote metastases. Therefore accurate diagnosis and aggressive surgical treatment can prevent the recurrence of the tumor. Authors of the study present case report of 49-year-old woman with DFSP of vulvar area.

BACKGROUND: Gastric neoplasia is uncommon in dogs accounting for ⟨1% of all neoplasms. Mesenchymal tumours arise from the muscularis layer of the gastric wall and represent 10-30% of canine gastric neoplasms. Gastric sarcomas arising from the muscularis layer of the stomach have not previously been reported.

Retiform hemangioendothelioma (RH) is a rare vascular neoplasm with a high rate of local recurrence and low metastatic potential. We describe an unusual case of RH in a 45-year-old patient with Milroy disease, with a prominent solid component diffusely involving a chronic lymphedematous leg. This case is consistent with the postulated relationship between lymphedema and vascular neoplasms developing as a result of local immune dysfunction, and highlights the need to closely monitor patients with Milroy disease for pathologic changes. Our case highlights a unique example of RH with atypical fea
