Sturge-Weber syndrome with cerebellar involvement.

Sturge-Weber syndrome is a rare neurocutaneous disorder that typically presents with angiomas involving the face, ocular choroid and ipsilateral supratentorial leptomeninges. Posterior fossa involvement is extremely rare. We present two patients with simultaneous supra- and infratentorial involvement. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital subtracted angiography (DSA) findings are discussed.

Tuberous sclerosis with primary meningioma of the maxillary antrum.

Primary extracranial meningiomas are uncommon; they have been documented in the ear, skin, orbit, parapharyngeal space, parotid gland, mediastinum, and rarely the paranasal sinuses. Tuberous sclerosis is an autosomal dominant neurocutaneous syndrome characterized by multiple connective tissue tumours. We report the first case of a tuberous sclerosis patient with a maxillary antral meningioma.

Craniosynostosis, ataxia, trigeminal anaesthesia and parietal alopecia with pons-vermis fusion anomaly (atresia of the fourth ventricle). Report of two cases.

A probably new syndrome of craniosynostosis, ataxia, trigeminal anaesthesia, and parietal alopecia area associated with pons-vermis fusion anomaly (atresia of the fourth ventricle), in two unrelated Mexican girls, is described. The cerebellar anomaly was proven by CT scan only and it correlated with ataxia. Other abnormalities seen in both patients were midfacial hypoplasia, bilateral corneal opacities, low-set ears, mental retardation and short stature. This disorder could be a new neurocutaneous syndrome.

Leptomeningeal angiomatosis with infantile spasms.

We describe a 7-month-old female with leptomeningeal angiomatosis who developed infantile spasms. She did not manifest facial nevus or ocular choroidal angioma. Leptomeningeal angiomatosis is characterized by venous angiomas of leptomeninges and usually accompanied by facial nevus, a condition known as Sturge-Weber syndrome. In Sturge-Weber syndrome, leptomeningeal angiomas can cause infantile spasms but much less frequently than in other neurocutaneous syndromes, such as tuberous sclerosis. This patient is the first reported case of leptomeningeal angiomatosis without facial nevus who develop

Post-operative Adult Onset Tic Disorder: A Rare Presentation.

Tics are rapid and repetitive muscle contractions resulting in stereotype movements and vocalizations that are experienced as involuntary. Onset before 18-year is a diagnostic criterion for tic disorders. Children and adolescents may exhibit tic behaviors after a stimulus or in response to an internal urge. Tic behaviors increase during physical or an emotional stress. Adult onset tic disorders are reported by infections, drugs, cocaine, toxins, chromosomal disorders, head injury, stroke, neurocutaneous syndromes, neurodegenerative disorders and peripheral injuries. Only few cases have yet bee

Report of a Turkish child with Sjören-Larsson syndrome associated with peripheral nerve involvement.

Sjören-Larsson syndrome is a rare hereditary neurocutaneous disorder characterized by ichthyosis, spastic di- or tetra-plegia, and mild to moderate mental retardation. In this article, we present a nine-year-old girl with the classical features of the syndrome associated with peripheral nerve involvement because of its rare presentation. To the best of our knowledge, only three cases of Sjören-Larsson syndrome with peripheral nerve involvement have been previously reported in the literature. We assume that Sjören-Larsson syndrome involves extensive disorders of the ectodermal tissues, includin

Sturge-Weber syndrome: physician's dream; surgeon's enigma.

Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a neurocutaneous syndrome consisting of port wine stain (facial nevus flammeus), congenital glaucoma and underlying anomalous leptomeningeal venous plexus with lack of normal cortical venous drainage. Neuromuscular, ocular, dermatologic and oral manifestations are variously present with this syndrome. The syndrome presents with various oral findings and the diagnosis of these cases is based primarily on clinical findings. Considering the complications that may be encountered during the treatment and the patient's own perception of the condition, it is imperative

Review of encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis.

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL), also known as Haberland syndrome, is a sporadic tumor predisposition neurocutaneous disorder, included in the oculoectodermal syndrome group of mosaic RASopathies. ECCL primarily affects the skin, central nervous system and eyes. Key diagnostic features include nevus psiloliparus, a hallmark subcutaneous lipomatous hamartoma associated with alopecia, along with subcutaneous lipomas, focal skin aplasia, and patchy alopecia. Neurologically, intracranial lipomas, particularly in the cerebellopontine angle, are prevalent, along with cortical dysplasia,

Ocular manifestations in phakomatosis pigmentovascularis: Current concepts on pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management.

Phakomatosis pigmentovascularis is a rare congenital multisystemic disease with variable manifestations where a vascular malformation of the skin is associated with a pigmentary nevus. Ocular involvement includes glaucoma, choroidal hemangioma, and pigmentary alterations that predispose to uveal melanoma. Diagnosis is made on clinical grounds, although recent advances in molecular genetics have better clarified the etiopathogenesis of the condition. The advent of improved imaging techniques such as enhanced depth imaging spectral domain optical coherence tomography has provided new insight int

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis.

BACKGROUND: Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL) is a relatively new, nonhereditary, but congenital, neurocutaneous syndrome with unilateral cutaneous tumors and ipsilateral ophthalmologic and neurologic malformations. The syndrome is rare, with only 25 cases reported since first communication in 1970. The primary clinical features noted for almost all cases are as follows: (1) unilateral porencephalic cysts with cortical atrophy, (2) ipsilateral lipomatous hamartoma of the scalp, eyelids, and outer globe of the eye, (3) cranial asymmetry, (4) marked developmental delay and mental retar
