Revealing the behavioral architecture of autonomous vehicle crashes: an interaction-based typology using real-world reports.

Over recent years, hundreds of crashes have been recorded during on-road testing of autonomous vehicles (AVs), underscoring the importance of understanding how these systems behave alongside human drivers in mixed traffic. Most previous research has focused on geometric crash outcomes, offering limited characterization of the paired vehicle motion states preceding impact. This study examines verified California DMV OL-316 crash reports (2024-2025) to construct an Interaction-Based Crash Typology (IBCT) that systematically describes AV-human motion configurations based on paired discrete pre-cr

Impact of abdominal compression on intra-fractional motion and delivered dose in magnetic resonance image-guided adaptive radiation ablation of adrenal gland metastases.

PURPOSE: The current study investigated the impact of abdominal compression on motion and the delivered dose during non-gated, magnetic resonance image (MRI)-guided radiation ablation of adrenal gland metastases. METHODS: Thirty-one patients with adrenal gland metastases treated to 45-60 Gy in 3-8 fractions on a 1.5 T MRI-linac were included in the study. The patients were breathing freely (n = 14) or with motion restricted by using an abdominal compression belt (n = 17). The time-resolved position of the target in online 2D cine MR images acquired during treatment was assessed and used to es

Modality-agnostic, patient-specific digital twins modeling temporally varying digestive motion.

Objective. Clinical implementation of deformable image registration (DIR) requires voxel-based spatial accuracy metrics such as manually identified landmarks, which are challenging to implement for highly mobile gastrointestinal (GI) organs. To address this, patient-specific digital twins (DTs) modeling temporally varying motion were created to assess the accuracy of DIR methods.Approach. A total of 21 motion phases simulating digestive GI motion as 4D image sequences were generated from static 3D patient scans using published analytical GI motion models through a multi-step semi-automated pip

Two-stage shoulder reconstruction for active glenohumeral sepsis.

In some circumstances, two-stage reconstruction is recommended for the treatment of glenohumeral sepsis. This study retrospectively reviewed the results in 25 patients after this treatment. Pain was the only consistent preoperative symptom, found in 95% of patients. The most common infecting organisms were coagulase-negative Staphylococcus in 8 cases, Proprionibacterium acnes in 7, and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus in 3. Outcomes were reviewed in 21 patients with 2-year minimum follow-up, at an average 4.1 years. Infection was eradicated in 18 of 21 shoulders. Success was related

Non-feature-specific elevated responses and feature-specific backward replay in human brain induced by visual sequence exposure.

The ability of cortical circuits to adapt in response to experience is a fundamental property of the brain. After exposure to a moving dot sequence, flashing a dot as a cue at the starting point of the sequence can elicit successive elevated responses even in the absence of the sequence. These cue-triggered elevated responses have been shown to play a crucial role in predicting future events in dynamic environments. However, temporal sequences we are exposed to typically contain rich feature information. It remains unknown whether the elevated responses are feature-specific and, more crucially

Accurate blood pressure during patient arm movement: the Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor's SureBP algorithm.

BACKGROUND: Current blood pressure (BP) measurement guidelines specify patient requirements, including being still. Some populations of patients cannot comply. A new International Organization for Standards is being developed to test devices that claim tolerance to transport-induced motion artifacts. This study proposes the first protocol to assess BP device accuracy in the presence of patient-induced motion. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Forty healthy volunteers (23 males) participated. The device tested was the Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor (CSM) using the SureBP algorithm. A reusable cuff wa

Trend-Centric Motion Visualization: Designing and Applying a New Strategy for Analyzing Scientific Motion Collections.

In biomechanics studies, researchers collect, via experiments or simulations, datasets with hundreds or thousands of trials, each describing the same type of motion (e.g., a neck flexion-extension exercise) but under different conditions (e.g., different patients, different disease states, pre- and post-treatment). Analyzing similarities and differences across all of the trials in these collections is a major challenge. Visualizing a single trial at a time does not work, and the typical alternative of juxtaposing multiple trials in a single visual display leads to complex, difficult-to-interpr

BehaveAI enables rapid detection and classification of objects and behavior from motion.

Here we introduce BehaveAI, a biologically inspired video analysis framework that integrates static and motion information through a novel color-from-motion encoding strategy. This method translates object movement-direction, speed, and acceleration-into color gradients, enabling both human annotators and pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to infer motion patterns while retaining high-resolution spatial detail. Using a range of case studies, we demonstrate how the increased salience of motion information allows for the robust detection of objects that are challenging or impossibl

Perceived coordinated biological motion sequences warp time perception.

Collective motion requires coordinated movements of multiple individuals, such as people walking in the same direction and in temporal synchrony. It provides a salient social signal closely linked to coordinated group action and social cohesion. Previous research has shown that the human visual system is highly sensitive to such coordinated biological movement, efficiently representing multiple moving agents as a unified spatial entity. While coordinated biological motion also unfolds over time, it remains unclear how its temporal dynamics are processed. Here, we asked participants to complete

Fast, Robust T2-IVIM Quantitative MRI With Distortion and Motion-Corrected Multi-Echo EPI.

PURPOSE: To enable robust, motion- and distortion-corrected T2-IVIM parameter estimation within clinically feasible scan times. METHODS: A single-shot, multi-echo spin-echo EPI sequence was used to acquire abdominal diffusion-weighted MRI with time-efficient sampling of b-value and TE pairs. The multi-echo acquisition enabled distortion correction using reverse phase-encoding between echoes. Motion and distortion correction were applied before fitting a joint T2-IVIM model across the b-value and TE dimensions to obtain TE-independent IVIM parameters and compartment-specific T2 estimates. The Superiority of the Otolith System.

BACKGROUND: The peripheral vestibular end organ is considered to consist of semi-circular canals (SCC) for detection of angular accelerations and the otoliths for detection of linear accelerations. However, otoliths being phylogenetically the oldest part of the vestibular sensory organs are involved in detection of all motions. SUMMARY: This study elaborates on this property of the otolith organ, as this concept can be of importance for the currently designed vestibular implant devices. Key Message: The analysis of the evolution of the inner ear and examination of clinical examples shows the

Neural activity within area V1 reflects unconscious visual performance in a case of blindsight.

Although lesions of the striate (V1) cortex disrupt conscious vision, patients can demonstrate surprising residual abilities within their affected visual field, a phenomenon termed blindsight. The relative contribution of spared "islands" of functioning striate cortex to residual vision, versus subcortical pathways to extrastriate areas, has implications for the role of early visual areas in visual awareness and performance. Here we describe the behavioral and neural features of residual cortical function in Patient M.C., who sustained a posterior cerebral artery stroke at the age of 15 years.

Investigation on the artificial exchange signals induced by the RIDER effect in CODEX experiments.

The CODEX (center-band only detection of exchange) NMR experiment is widely used for the detection of slow motions in organic solids, especially polymers. However, the RIDER (relaxation-induced dipolar exchange with recoupling) effect may result in artificial exchange signals in the CODEX pure exchange spectrum, which greatly limits the application of CODEX method. Herein, we investigate the distance range that the RIDER effect can reach by performing CODEX experiments on two typical organic solids, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and semi-crystalline polyamide-6 (PA6) where there ar

Pseudoasthma in a case of asthma.

The respiratory system, which is composed of the upper and lower airways performs varied and distinct functions. These can also be the sites of various pathological processes. Asthma is one of the major conditions involving the lower airways whereas laryngeal dysfunction due to various conditions has also been known to occur. Isolated laryngeal dysfunction with abnormal vocal cord movements has been shown to occur both in various organic and non-organic conditions. The non-organic laryngeal dysfunction with a functional component is being increasingly recognized, the symptoms of which can be e

Evaluating motion of pancreatic tumors and anatomical surrogates using cine MRI in 0.35T MRgRT under free breathing conditions.

Treatment tolerability is a significant limitation to pancreatic cancer treatment with radiotherapy due to proximity to highly radiosensitive organs and respiratory motion necessitating expanded target margins. Further, pancreatic tumors are difficult to visualize on conventional radiotherapy systems. Surrogates are often used to locate the tumor but are often inconsistent and do not provide strong positional relations throughout the respiratory cycle. This work utilizes a retrospective dataset of 45 pancreatic cancer patients treated on an MR-Linac system with cine MRI acquired for real-time
