A new minimally invasive surgical technique for medial retinaculum repair following traumatic patellar dislocation.

A new surgical method is introduced offering a less invasive approach to reattach the medial retinaculum following acute patellar dislocation. This retrospective analysis comprised 12 cases of medial retinacular repair in 10 patients. The surgical technique achieved reinforced reattachment of the torn region of the medial retinaculum for improved patellar support and stabilization. During follow-up, no recurrent patellar dislocations occurred, except where one patient reported a subjective feeling of patellar dislocation. The average Kujala score for our sample group after 2 years was 89.2. A

Total knee arthroplasty with subvastus approach in patient with chronic post-traumatic patellar dislocation.

Chronic lateral dislocation of the patella is a rare condition and acquired causes are usually secondary to knee trauma. The neglected chronic dislocation leads to progressive genu valgum and external tibial torsion deformities with subsequent gonarthrosis, which becomes painful and debilitating. There is no consensus regarding treatment of these patients, but total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a useful therapy in cases of painful symptomatic gonarthrosis. Few reports have shown that subvastus approach and lateral release may be a valid option for TKA, since it allows the correction of valgus de

Posttraumatic chronic patellar dislocation treated by distal femoral osteotomy and medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction.

Chronic patellar dislocation is a rare condition where the patella remains dislocated throughout knee range of motion during flexion and extension. In adults, the delayed presentation of this condition is often due to symptoms caused by the onset of severe secondary osteoarthritis. To the authors' knowledge, all of the cases reported in the literature have been treated by patellofemoral or total knee replacements depending on patient age and the extent of the arthritis. This article describes a rare case of a 22-year-old woman who sustained a traumatic chronic patellar dislocation for 5 months

Recurrence after patellar dislocation. Redislocation in 37/75 patients followed for 6-24 years.

75 patients had closed treatment for a primary unilateral acute patellar dislocation. All patients were studied clinically, radiographically and for isokinetic thigh muscle performance a median of 11 (6-24) years later. During the follow-up, 37 patients had experienced recurrent dislocations. The functional outcomes were similar in patients with or without recurrence. Radiographically unstable patellar morphology, spontaneous reduction of the dislocation and low volume of hemarthrosis predisposed to recurrence.

Comparison of patellar anchor fixation graft and graft through patellar tunnel reconstruction of medial patellofemoral ligament in the treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation: A protocol for a meta-analysis of comparative studies.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent patellar dislocation (RPD) occurs in people who have their own patellofemoral dysplasia and who have not been properly treated after their first patellar dislocation. For RPD where conservative treatment is ineffective, medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction is the first choice for surgical treatment, but there are various and controversial ways of MPFL reconstruction and fixation. Initially, more scholars adopted the patellar lateral tunneling (PT) approach to contain and stabilize the graft, but with the newer materials and techniques, some experts adopted

Permanent patellar dislocation after a nonoperative treatment of recurrent dislocation of the patella because of trochlear dysplasia: a case report and review of the literature.

Patellar instability is a common knee injury in children and adolescents. After first-time dislocation, a nonoperative course is widespread. In cases of recurrent patellar dislocation, operative therapy is widely recommended. This case report shows the complicating history after a period of numerous patellar dislocations with primarily spontaneous reduction and a nonreducible dislocation at the follow-up 2 years after a nonoperative treatment.

Associations Between Patient Characteristics and Cartilage T1ρ Relaxation Times Vary Over Time Following Patellar Dislocation.

The characteristics of patients that promote progressive cartilage degradation following patellar dislocations are not well understood. The study hypothesis is that associations relating cartilage degradation to low BMI, high activity and youth in the early months following patellar dislocation are not exhibited for contralateral knees or a longer time from injury. Quantitative MRI-based evaluation of injured and contralateral knees occurred within 5 months of a unilateral patellar dislocation (baseline evaluation, 36 subjects) and beyond 5 months (follow-up evaluation, 20 subjects). Prognostic Factors of First-Time Athletic Patellar Dislocation That Favor Surgical Intervention: A Systematic Review.

First-time athletic patellar dislocations are either treated surgically with medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction or conservatively with bracing and physical therapy. Currently, there is no consensus on the best treatment for this condition. While outcomes are similar between treatment groups, operative treatment has been shown to yield lower redislocation rates and higher Kujala scores. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify prognostic factors that favor operative treatment of first-time patellar dislocations. Data sources include PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase. PRISMA

COL12A1 gene mutation is associated with habitual patellar dislocation: a case report and literature review.

Variants within COL12A1 have been associated with the occurrence and progression of a number of musculoskeletal disorders. Here, we report a case of patellar dislocation and limited mobility in a 13-year-old patient and genetic determination of the etiology of their condition utilizing diagnostic whole-exome sequencing. The patient underwent diagnostic whole-exome sequencing to look for pathogenic variants, which were classified using the ACMG classification standards. A heterozygous nucleotide variant (NM_004370.6: c.8179-2A > G) in intron 53 of the COL12A1 gene was identified and resulted in

Medial patellofemoral ligament injury. Location-based rate of recurrent patellar dislocation after non-operative treatment.

OBJECTIVES: The role of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) as a patellofemoral joint stabilizing structure is undisputable. After traumatic patellar dislocation, MPFL injury, together with bone edema in the medial patellar facet and lateral femoral condyle, is a pathognomonic finding in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MPFL injury in the femoral insertion has been reported to most likely predict recurrent dislocations. The objective of this study was to detect if any MPFL injury location predicts the earliest onset of the patellar re-dislocation. METHODS: In total, 64 eligible patient

Analysis of lower extremity alignment (LEA) in children with recurrent patellar dislocation by EOS system.

OBJECTIVES: Recurrent patellar dislocation (RPD) greatly affects active young individuals, necessitating the identification of risk factors for a better understanding of its cause. Previous research has connected RPD to lower limb alignment (LEA) abnormalities, such as increased femoral anteversion, tibial external rotation, knee valgus, and flexion. This study aims to use EOS technology to detect RPD-related LEA anomalies, enabling three-dimensional assessment under load conditions. METHODS: A total of 100 limbs (50 in the RPD group, 50 in the control group) were retrospectively analyzed. In
