BACKGROUND: Increased thoracic kyphosis (TK) in adolescence can negatively affect posture, balance, and quality of life (QoL). While conventional corrective exercises (CE) are commonly used, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), based on developmental kinesiology, has shown potential as a targeted intervention. This study aims to compare the effects of DNS and conventional CE on TK angle, dynamic balance, and QoL in adolescent boys with increased TK. METHODS: In this single-blind randomized controlled trial, 60 male adolescents aged 14–16 years with increased TK were randomly assigned to

BACKGROUND: Exercises strengthening foot muscles and customized arch support insoles are recommended for improving foot posture in flexible flatfoot. However, it is not known what the effects of exercises and insoles on plantar force distribution obtained during walking at different speeds. Also, randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of exercises and insoles are limited.
RESEARCH QUESTION: What are the effects of foot exercises, customized arch support insoles, and exercises plus insoles on foot posture, plantar force distribution, and balance in people with flexible flatfoot? Do

INTRODUCTION: Post-stroke patients with sarcopenia commonly exhibit impaired postural control and balance, which elevates fall risk and diminishes quality of life. This study investigates if combining Tai Chi with Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) has synergistic benefits for neuromuscular control, core stability and balance in post-stroke patients with sarcopenia. Tai Chi enhances dynamic balance and lower limb strength through controlled weight-shifting movements. In contrast, DNS aims to restore neuromuscular synergy and regulate intra-abdominal pressure. It applies principles from

BACKGROUND: Risk factors have been proposed for running injuries including (a) reduced muscular strength, (b) excessive joint movements and (c) excessive joint moments in the frontal and transverse planes. To date, many running injury prevention programs have focused on a "top down" approach to strengthen the hip musculature in the attempt to reduce movements and moments at the hip, knee, and/or ankle joints. However, running mechanics did not change when hip muscle strength increased. It could be speculated that emphasis should be placed on increasing the strength of the ankle joint for a "gr

Back-support exoskeletons (BSEs) are wearable systems designed to reduce physical demands on the back, but which could have undesired effects beyond this design intention. Participants (n = 18) used two commercial BSEs to complete a brief (~15-20 s) simulated manual assembly task in varying conditions, with outcome measures that included: working posture, activity levels in "secondary" muscle groups (shoulders and thighs), perceived balance, discomfort, and usability. Using a BSE led to small and inconsistent changes in working postures (e.g., < ~14° change in lumbar flexion), muscular activit

BACKGROUND: Hyperkyphosis may cause balance impairment in elderly people. Although the effectiveness of orthoses for improving balance in hyperkyphotic elderly people has received much attention, the mechanisms by which devices affect balance remain unknown.
OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in balance performance, thoracic kyphosis angle, craniovertebral angle, back muscle endurance and joint position sense after 3 months of wearing a Spinomed orthosis. The study also included a secondary exploratory analysis to determine whether changes in any of the above-ment

BACKGROUND: Flexible flatfoot is common in young adults. One of its causes is the failure of dynamic stabilizers, which play an important role in the medial longitudinal arch support, and their appropriate function is necessary for the integrity of the lower extremity and the spine.
OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to determine Kinesio taping on which extrinsic foot muscle provides greater benefit regarding enhancement of foot posture, dynamic balance, and biomechanical parameters in functional tasks immediately.
METHODS: Thirty women were recruited for the study. They were randomly divided into g

BACKGROUND: Persisting symptoms after concussion (PSaC) are a pathological manifestation of head injuries that present with symptoms after the acute phase of head trauma has subsided. Insufficient research about PSaC has led to gaps in knowledge and incorrect terminology being applied. Furthermore, gaps exist in standardised assessment protocols and understanding of mental health symptoms associated with sports.
OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to; 1) Determine expert consensus on appropriate terminology for symptoms lasting >4 weeks, 2) Investigate associations with mental health and postural sta

BACKGROUND: Population aging has increased demand for scalable strategies supporting balance-oriented rehabilitation, fall-risk management, and functional independence in older adults. Pilates and technology-assisted exercise, including AR/VR, exergaming, motion-sensing exercise, telerehabilitation, and technology-delivered Pilates, may be relevant, but comparative evidence and older-adult applicability remain uncertain.
OBJECTIVE: To compare Pilates, technology-assisted exercise, technology-delivered Pilates, conventional exercise, and control for balance- and postural-control-related outcom

OBJECTIVE: Persons with visual impairment (VI) are at greater risk for falls due to irreparable damage to visual sensory input contributing to balance. Targeted training may significantly improve postural stability by strengthening the remaining sensory systems. Here, we evaluate the Ashtanga-based Yoga Therapy (AYT) program as a multi-sensory behavioral intervention to develop postural stability in VI.
DESIGN: A randomized, waitlist-controlled, single-blind clinical trial.
METHODS: The trial was conducted between October 2012 and December 2013. Twenty-one legally blind participants were ran

BACKGROUND: The forefoot and rearfoot can individually contribute to the development of chronic ankle instability (CAI) after an ankle injury. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of targeted forefoot and rearfoot stability training on dynamic balance, postural stability, gait biomechanics, and self-reported joint function in individuals with CAI.
METHODS: This study is a prospective, single-center, interventional, randomized controlled trial with two comparison groups, either a usual balance training group or a control group. Individuals (18-44 years) with a self-reported ankle i

BACKGROUND: Chronic ankle instability is a musculoskeletal disorder involving repeated ankle sprains, reduced joint position sense, and postural imbalance. Although exercise-based rehabilitation is essential, variations in program design and a focus on local stabilization limit overall effectiveness.
PURPOSE: This randomized controlled study compared platelet-rich plasma injection, platelet-rich plasma combined with a structured exercise program, and manual therapy focusing on the myofascial superficial back line in terms of pain, proprioception, posture, balance, and function.

UNLABELLED: Despite the high incidence of lateral ankle sprains, the issue about whether postural control is impaired after acute or chronic injury is still unresolved. In addition, the literature is unclear if balance training, a commonly prescribed intervention, improves postural control after a history of lateral ankle trauma.
PURPOSE: To conduct a meta-analysis on studies reporting the effects of lateral ankle trauma on postural control and how balance training affects postural control after acute and chronic lateral ankle trauma cumulatively and separately as moderating variables.
