Sexual Self-Schemas in the Real World: Investigating the Ecological Validity of Language-Based Markers of Childhood Sexual Abuse.

This is the first study to examine language use and sexual self-schemas in natural language data extracted from posts to a large online forum. Recently, two studies applied advanced text analysis techniques to examine differences in language use and sexual self-schemas between women with and without a history of childhood sexual abuse. The aim of the current study was to test the ecological validity of the differences in language use and sexual self-schema themes that emerged between these two groups of women in the laboratory. Archival natural language data were extracted from a social media

Social valence in children with specific language impairment during imitation-based and conversation-based language intervention.

This study investigated the level of social valence and type of social behaviors expressed in 15 children with specific language impairment as they engaged in typical language intervention activities during conversation-based and imitation-based language programs. These programs were both applied to each child over a period of several weeks. Videotapes of treatment sessions were analyzed for the presence of five verbal and 11 nonverbal behaviors selected to measure social valence. In addition, the child's level of social valence was scored on a three-point rating scale. The results showed that

Linguistic-cognitive intervention in a case of early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease (EOAD) is an atypical variant of dementia that usually presents with impairments in language, visuospatial abilities, executive functions, or complex motor skills, with an early onset before the age of 65. This case study investigates the effect of a weekly language-cognitive intervention program in a patient with EOAD, diagnosed at the age of 58. The following protocols were applied for assessment before, during, and after the intervention: the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination - Revised (ACE-R), the Arizona Battery for Communication Disorders of Dementia (AB

[EVALUATION OF SCREENING FOR PTSD USING CONSORT AI RECOMMENDATIONS WITH A LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL].

Similar to major natural disasters and large-scale wars, the events of October 7th and the retaliatory Iron Swords war resulted in both direct and indirect exposure of a significant proportion of the population to traumatic events. A major challenge for healthcare systems in such scenarios is the early identification of populations that develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The medical literature was reviewed to assess whether language models could be integrated into a screening program for at-risk populations and which tools can be used to evaluate the quality of studies describing s

Effects of sensory-motor training on the language development of retarded preschoolers.

Previous research indicates that perceptual-motor training positively influences the development of language in retarded children. In this year-long study, 30 retarded children attending a preschool training center were divided into three equal groups given perceptual-motor training, movement training, or no systematic training. No significant differences were found among the groups on language measures, suggesting that the total remedial environment may be an important factor in the effectiveness of perceptual-motor and of movement training programs.

Effects of early auditory experience on the spoken language of deaf children at 3 years of age.

OBJECTIVE: By age 3, typically developing children have achieved extensive vocabulary and syntax skills that facilitate both cognitive and social development. Substantial delays in spoken language acquisition have been documented for children with severe to profound deafness, even those with auditory oral training and early hearing aid use. This study documents the spoken language skills achieved by orally educated 3-yr-olds whose profound hearing loss was identified and hearing aids fitted between 1 and 30 mo of age and who received a cochlear implant between 12 and 38 mo of age. The purpose

Translation and cultural adaptation of the HELPS Reading Fluency Program into Brazilian Portuguese: A report of systematic adaptation processes and initial evidence of efficacy.

INTRODUCTION: Across multiples languages, research demonstrates the important relationship between reading fluency and comprehension. Put simply, a fluent reader has greater attention and memory resources to use higher-order functions in reading, resulting in better comprehension of text. Some reading fluency interventions have shown positive results in improving students' text reading fluency and comprehension; however, this research has predominantly been conducted with English-speaking students. For instance, until this report, a comprehensive search revealed only one prior study that evalu

Exploring the Cost and Access Gap Between Osteopathic and Allopathic Medical Students When Applying for General Surgery Fourth-Year Away Rotations.

INTRODUCTION: Away rotations have been widely accepted as a critical factor involved in the selection of future residents by general surgery residency programs nationwide. With the recent change to a single accreditation system merging the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), programs offering away rotation positions must contend with an increased applicant pool consisting of both allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) medical students. The aim of the study was to determine if any ACGME general surgery residency institutions dis
