Predicting Alzheimer's Disease Diagnosis, a Decade or more Years before Onset using the Electronic Health Record and Random Forest Machine Learning Models.

INTRODUCTION: There is need to detect and intervene in pre-clinical phases of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Electronic health records (EHRs) may help predict AD using machine learning methods. METHODS: We identified EHRs for 19,473 cases with AD and 111,922 controls. Records spanned 10 or more years prior to AD diagnosis. We trained a random forest model (employing 5-fold cross-validation with 2,499 features) to predict AD 10 years prior to its onset using a 75/25% train/test split and then computed permuted feature importance. RESULTS: We achieved an area under the ROC curve of 0.80. Feature im

Insight into the main determinants of the struggle against overweight and obesity in Chile: Use of random forest techniques and econometric models.

Overweight and obesity are considered the greatest public health problem in this emerging country, which worldwide has the second-highest percentage of overweight people among its population. The objective of this work was to analyse to what extent factors traditionally used in the study of overweight and obesity (such as sociodemographic and behavioural) and new variables proposed in the literature (such as stress, financial stress and emotional support) explain this disease in the adult population of Chile. Data were obtained from the III National Health Survey (ENS) administered by the Mini

Application of the Random Forest method to analyse epidemiological and phenotypic characteristics of Salmonella 4,[5],12:i:- and Salmonella Typhimurium strains.

Salmonella enterica 4,[5],12:i:- is a monophasic variant of S. Typhimurium. In the last decade, its prevalence rose sharply. Although S. 4,[5],12:i:- and S. Typhimurium are known to pose a considerable public health risk, there is no detailed information on the circulation of these serovars in Italy, particularly as far as veterinary isolates are concerned. For this reason, a data set of 877 strains isolated in the north-east of Italy from foodstuffs, animals and environment was analysed during 2005-2010. The Random Forests (RF) method was used to identify the most important epidemiological an

Quantifying the reduction in particulate matter by urban park green spaces using a random forest model: A case study of Hohhot, China.

Urban particulate matter (PM) pollution poses a serious threat to residents' health, and urban park green spaces (UPGSs) can play an important role in reducing the PM. Previous studies have highlighted how differences in plant traits, community structure, and green space configuration influence PM reduction. However, the extent to which meteorological factors, park built-up environment indicators, and other variables differentially drive PM reduction by UPGSs remains unclear. This study investigated 37 parks in Hohhot to assess the reduction rates (DR) of 6 p.m. size fractions using summer day

Gut Microbiota and Metabolic Pathway Signatures for Inflammatory Bowel Disease Identified via Subject-Stratified Random Forest Based on the Longitudinal HMP2 Cohort.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterised by severe intestinal microbial dysbiosis. Most machine learning diagnostic models built on the longitudinal HMP2 cohort suffer serious data leakage from random sample-level cross-validation splitting, which leads to artificially inflated AUC values. Additionally, incomplete reporting of microbial preprocessing, random forest hyperparameters and multi-dimensional evaluation metrics reduces the reproducibility of existing research. Methods: We re-analysed the public HMP2 (IBDMDB) longitudinal metagenomic dataset containing 130 unique

Integrating social cognitive theory with machine learning to predict MSM-women sexual behavior: a multicenter random forest model development study in China.

Understanding and predicting sexual behavior patterns through the lens of Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) is essential for identifying behavioral bridges that facilitate HIV transmission. MSM who engage in sexual activity with women (MSM-W) represent a critical yet underexplored subgroup in China. However, existing studies lack theory-driven predictive frameworks that explicitly integrate psychological mechanisms with robust analytics. This study aimed to develop and validate an SCT-guided machine-learning model to predict MSM-W behavior and to evaluate its discriminatory and calibration perform

Knowledge-slanted random forest method for high-dimensional data and small sample size with a feature selection application for gene expression data.

The use of prior knowledge in the machine learning framework has been considered a potential tool to handle the curse of dimensionality in genetic and genomics data. Although random forest (RF) represents a flexible non-parametric approach with several advantages, it can provide poor accuracy in high-dimensional settings, mainly in scenarios with small sample sizes. We propose a knowledge-slanted RF that integrates biological networks as prior knowledge into the model to improve its performance and explainability, exemplifying its use for selecting and identifying relevant genes. knowledge-sla

Abnormal Brain Circuits Characterize Borderline Personality and Mediate the Relationship between Childhood Traumas and Symptoms: A mCCA+jICA and Random Forest Approach.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a severe personality disorder whose neural bases are still unclear. Indeed, previous studies reported inconsistent findings concerning alterations in cortical and subcortical areas. In the present study, we applied for the first time a combination of an unsupervised machine learning approach known as multimodal canonical correlation analysis plus joint independent component analysis (mCCA+jICA), in combination with a supervised machine learning approach known as random forest, to possibly find covarying gray matter and white matter (GM-WM) circuits that
