The robot assisted rehabilitation constitutes a recent therapeutic opportunity for the motor disorders in children with neurological disabilities. Robot-based devices are useful to promote improvements in sensorimotor and cognitive process. Robot-assisted rehabilitation is most frequently used in neurological disabilities of the upper limb and walking. They produce a controlled and repeatable therapy experience and allow quantitative evaluations of kinematics and kinetics to estimate the patient's progress. Results appear promising but there is a lack of a comprehensive and shared framework th

Robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) is increasingly becoming established as a standard procedure in surgical centers for esophagectomy in cases of cancer. To date, RAMIE has been shown to have fewer postoperative complications and at least equivalent oncological outcomes compared with open resection. Compared with classical minimally invasive resection, there seem to be fewer cases of postoperative pneumonia after RAMIE. In addition, a higher number of harvested lymph nodes could lead to better oncological long-term outcomes. The learning curve for this complex surgical pro

The robotic platform can be viewed as an advanced thoracoscopic instrument and can be utilized for any pathology amenable to thoracoscopic surgery. This ultimately comes down to surgeon comfort, but many have demonstrated the robotic approach to be useful in benign and malignant mediastinal disease in all compartments with at least equivalent-if not superior-outcomes compared to sternotomy for many metrics. There are various robotic approaches to the same compartments (such as with thymectomy), and no one robotic approach has proven superior to another. Here we describe our robotic approach to

Robotic tracheobronchoplasty (TBP) is a new surgical approach to treat tracheobronchomalacia (TBM), and is based on open TBP, which has undergone various technical iterations since the 1950s. The robotic approach to TBM may allow for more patients to undergo TBP, and in retrospective series has demonstrated equivalent outcomes compared to open TBP if not superior in terms of postoperative complications. Long-term data are eagerly awaited, and we describe our approach in this article.

Various remote access robotic thyroidectomy techniques have been developed using the da Vinci® surgical system (Intuitive Surgical Inc., Sunnyvale, CA) to hide or avoid neck scarring and overcome the limitations of endoscopic thyroidectomy. Among those used today are the gasless transaxillary approach, the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA), the gasless postauricular facelift approach, and the transoral approach. Especially, the recently introduced transoral approach (including robotic and endoscopic procedures) is prominent and now popular worldwide. The most significant advantages of re

Minimally invasive techniques have gained popularity in pediatric surgery. Among these, is the robotic approach for ureteral reimplantation in children with vesico-ureteral reflux. We describe main indications of this surgery, our surgical technique as well as trouble shooting of anatomical variants and the post-operative management. We also provide a description of other techniques described in the literature and a brief review of outcomes of published series.

Robotically assisted laparoscopic techniques may be used for proximal and distal ureteral strictures. Distal strictures may be approached with ureteroneocystotomy, psoas hitch, and Boari flap. Ureteroureterostomy, buccal mucosa graft ureteroplasty, and appendiceal flap ureteroplasty are viable techniques for strictures anywhere along the ureter. Ileal ureteral substitution is reserved for more extensive disease, and autotransplantation is reserved for salvage situations.

Contemporary hair transplant surgery creates natural appearing transplanted hair. The procedure is performed as an outpatient under local anesthesia. Donor harvesting can be performed by either elliptical donor harvesting or follicular unit extraction. An experience surgical team is needed for a high-quality, efficient procedure. Robotic hair transplantation allows precise and efficient removal of follicular units. The robot allows for minimally invasive surgery. Robotic hair transplantation is an important tool for hair transplant surgeons, but does not replace appropriate candidate selection

Robots under research and development for otology can be classified as collaborative (intervention is constrained by the robot but surgeon directly actuates the end-effector), teleoperated (surgeon remotely controls a tool with modification [eg, tremor reduction] by the robot), or autonomous (surgeon monitors the robot performing a task). Current clinical trials focus on more accurate stapes surgery, minimally invasive access to the cochlea, and less traumatic insertion of cochlear implant electrode arrays. Autonomous approaches to major aspects of surgical interventions (eg, mastoidectomy) wi

BACKGROUND: We have initially published our experience with the robotic transthoracic esophagectomy in 32 patients from a single institute. The present paper is the extension of our experience with robotic system and to best of our knowledge this represents the largest series of robotic transthoracic esophagectomy worldwide. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of the robotic transthoracic esophagectomy for esophageal cancer in a series of patients from a single institute.
METHODS: A retrospective review of medical records was conducted for 83 esophageal cancer patie

Several different mediastinal procedures for benign and malignant diseases have been proved to be feasible and safe when performed by a robotic minimally invasive approach. This article reviews the published data on robotic mediastinal surgery, focusing on technical aspects and perioperative outcomes. These are evaluated for differences and potential benefits over open and conventional minimally invasive techniques. Is there a need for the robot in the mediastinum? Is its application justified?

Robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery is penetrating pediatric urology. The freedom afforded by the "surgical actuators" has led to the expanding adoption of robotics, and it is unlikely that much of laparoscopy will not trend toward some iteration of robotic influence. The da Vinci surgical system (Intuitive Surgical, Sunnyvale, CA) provides delicate telemanipulation, coalesced with three-dimensional visualization and superior magnification. It has bridged the gap between laparoscopy and open surgery. Nonetheless, a confident understanding of pure laparoscopy is paramount in the event t

Thymectomy is an established therapy for myasthenia gravis. Minimally invasive surgery for thymectomy has been reported, but not clearly shown to be equivalent to open resection. Robotic-assisted thymectomy may provide the benefit of a full resection of thymic tissue and anterior mediastinal tissue for the treatment of myasthenia gravis by a minimally invasive approach. We present a review of the experience of robotic thymectomy.

In the Special Research Centre 414 of the German Research Funding (DFG, Bonn) a system for robot-assisted cranial surgery was developed. It is designed for the accurate and safe execution of craniotomies and repositioning of bone pieces. The system is intended for use in the surgical therapy of craniosynostosis. Preoperatively, CT imaging is performed. In a computerized planning system the position and shape of the intended craniotomy is intuitively planned on a virtual model of the patient's skull. Intraoperatively, after conventional removal of the covering soft tissue, the robot performs th

The great advances of microelectronics and mechatoronics are gradually being applied into medicine. In percutaneous nephrostomy, it is possible to calculate the depth and direction of the needle by using a computer if one point on the surface of the skin and another point in the dilated renal pelvis are determined. When a robot is moved according to the computed results, a percutaneous operation is performed fast and exactly. We established a system through which a percutaneous operation is automatically performed. The following technical difficulties of this system were overcome. The coordina

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are the two dominant revascularisation strategies for obstructive coronary artery disease, yet their relative roles continue to shift because they address coronary pathophysiology differently with ever-evolving techniques. PCI has advanced through iterative improvements, including balloon angioplasty, bare-metal stents, and drug-eluting stents, with contemporary outcomes increasingly driven by procedural optimisation using intracoronary imaging and physiology-guided lesion selection rather than device category

INTRODUCTION: Robotics and technological interventions are increasingly being explored as solutions to improve rehabilitation outcomes but their implementation in clinical practice remains very limited. Understanding patient needs is crucial for effective integration of these technologies, ensuring they align with and address the actual requirements of individuals in clinical settings. The primary aim of this study is to explore the rehabilitation needs of adults with motor, sensory, and/or cognitive disabilities in order to more effectively guide the practice of technological and robotic inte

The integration of robots into collaborative environments, where they physically interact with humans, requires systems capable of ensuring both safety and performance. This work introduces the development of a Variable Stiffness Impact Testing Device (VSITD), designed to emulate physical human-robot interaction by replicating biomechanical properties such as muscle elasticity and joint compliance. The proposed system integrates a Variable Stiffness Mechanism (VSM) with a multi-sensor configuration that includes a high-resolution Force Sensitive Resistors (FSR) matrix, piezoelectric load cells
