Fabrication and Optimization of Electrospun Polymeric Nanofibers Loaded with 5-Fluorouracil and Rosemary Extract.

BACKGROUND: Topical 5-fluorouracil (5FU) is one of the most prescribed medications for different types of skin cancer; however, it is associated with drug resistance and adverse effects. Rosemary extract has promising dose-dependent antitumor effects, as well as a synergistic effect in combination with 5-fluorouracil, besides sensitization of the 5-FU-resistant cells. OBJECTIVE: Polymeric nanofibers loaded with 5FU and rosemary extract were optimized to combine both ingredients in one controlled release drug delivery system, aiming to enhance the efficacy while retaining the adverse effects.

Purification and characterization of a dihydroxy Oxocyclohexyl acetate derivative from endophytic Aspergillus Candidus targeting Candida albicans lanosterol 14α-Demethylase.

Endophytic fungi are important sources of structurally diverse natural products with potential antifungal activity. In this study, four endophytic fungi were isolated from Rosmarinus officinalis and screened for bioactivity. An isolate identified as Aspergillus candidus was selected based on its antifungal profile, and its secondary metabolites were investigated. Cultivation in modified Czapek Yeast Broth followed by silica gel chromatography yielded a single major metabolite. Comprehensive GC-MS, FTIR, and 1D/2D NMR analysis established its structure as (2E, 7E)-6, 9-dihydroxy-10-(3-hydroxy-5

Bioactive Potential of Terpenes from Mediterranean Scrub Plants: A Review.

The Mediterranean ecosystem is characterized by marked seasonality; it is composed of species such as shrublands that are subjected to high levels of water and thermal stress, making these species an important source of secondary metabolites of significant chemical and ecological interest. In this work, 21 plants were selected from the Mediterranean scrub. These abundant and characteristic representations of the ecosystem produce a total of 197 terpenes. The majority of these are monoterpenes (46.70%), followed by sesquiterpenes (38.07%), with a minority of diterpenes (5.53%) and triterpenes (

Essential Oils from Selected Mediterranean Aromatic Plants-Characterization and Biological Activity as Aphid Biopesticides.

The need for alternatives to synthetic pesticides is a priority today, especially when these pesticides are directed against aphids, one of the more challenging pests facing modern agriculture. Essential oils may be one of these alternatives. We assayed the insecticidal potential of essential oils from Thymus vulgaris, Rosmarinus officinalis var. 'prostratus' and Lavandula dentata. Essential oil extraction was carried out by hydrodistillation in a Clevenger-type apparatus for 3 h and their respective composition was elucidated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The essential oil fraction

Medicinal plants with antithrombotic property in Persian medicine: a mechanistic review.

Thrombosis is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in a wide range of vessels diseases. Due to the high prevalence of thromboembolic disorders investigations are being carried out on new antithrombotic agents with limited adverse side effects in which herbal medicines are considered as alternative remedies. Persian medicine (PM) as a traditional medicine has a good potential for pharmacotherapy based on its own principles and development of drugs via investigating PM literature. In PM manuscripts there are some concepts that express the management of blood clots and antithromboti
