Bidirectional Associations Between Physical Activity, Sedentary Behavior, and Daily Symptoms in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Longitudinal Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Questionnaire-based symptom assessment may introduce recall bias and lacks bidirectional exploration. This is particularly relevant, given the unclear direction of the associations between physical activity (PA), sedentary time (ST), and symptoms in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Understanding these associations could inform symptom management strategies and improve patient quality of life. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the direction of the association between PA, ST, and symptoms in patients with COPD using accelerometry and ecological mo

Association of Sleep Traits, Physical Activity, and Sedentary Leisure Behavior With Female Reproductive Health: A Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Analysis.

PURPOSE: Living habits affect female endocrine function and fertility, along with aging and other life factors. Because of this, female reproductive health can be promoted through living habit adjustment. METHODS: We used two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis with summary datasets from a genome-wide association study to investigate the causal relationships between sleep traits, sedentary leisure behavior, physical activity, and reproductive health traits in women, calculating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Exposure genetic instruments were used for variants that w

Physical chronic conditions, multimorbidity and sedentary behavior amongst middle-aged and older adults in six low- and middle-income countries.

BACKGROUND: Sedentary behavior (SB) is, irrespective of a person's physical activity levels, associated with a wide range of deleterious outcomes such as diabetes, stroke and associated premature mortality. There are no nationally representative, multi-national, population-based studies investigating the relationship between SB, chronic conditions, and physical multimorbidity (i.e., two or more chronic physical conditions). Thus, this cross-sectional study aimed to assess the association between chronic conditions, physical multimorbidity and SB among community-dwelling adults in six low- and

The role of serious mental illness in motivation, participation and adoption of health behavior change among obese/sedentary Latino adults.

Objective: Serious mental illness (SMI; e.g. schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, bipolar disorder, severe major depressive disorder, and psychotic disorders) and Latino ethnicity can produce a compounded health disparity, placing individuals at particularly high risk for excess morbidity and premature mortality. In this study we sought to identify the role of SMI in motivation, participation, and adoption of health behavior change among overweight Latino adults. Design: Qualitative, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 overweight Latinos with SMI who were

A comparison of objective and subjective measures of physical activity, sedentary and sleep behaviors between persons with and without depressive symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is characterized by negative recall biases, which may impact how individuals with depressive symptoms report physical activity (PA), sedentary, and sleep behaviors. Additionally, there are discrepancies between subjective and objective behaviors in MDD. Thus, the current study investigated whether individuals with depressive symptoms differ in their subjective and objective PA, sedentary, and sleep behaviors, and whether the magnitude of these discrepancies differ from those in individuals without depressive symptoms. METHODS: Participants from the

Mediators of the effect of the JUMP-in intervention on physical activity and sedentary behavior in Dutch primary schoolchildren from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

BACKGROUND: Important health benefits can be achieved when physical activity in children from low socio-economic status is promoted and sedentariness is limited. By specifying the mediating mechanisms of existing interventions one can improve future physical activity interventions. This study explored potential mediators of the long-term effect of the school-based multicomponent JUMP-in intervention on sport participation, outdoor play and screen time in Dutch primary schoolchildren from disadvantaged neighborhoods. METHODS: In total, 600 primary schoolchildren (aged 9.8 ± 0.7, 51% girls, 13%

Associations of Accelerometer-Determined Sedentary and Physical Activity Behaviors with Heart Failure Biomarkers during Midlife: CARDIA Study.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have examined the longitudinal associations of accelerometer-based measures of sedentary and physical activity behaviors with subclinical heart failure (HF) in midlife. This is a key gap, given that an improved understanding of modifiable factors associated with HF risk may better inform prevention strategies. We hypothesize that more time in light intensity physical activity and/or moderate or vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) and less sedentary time will be related to lower levels of HF biomarkers (N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide and high-sensitivi
