Person-to-Person Transmission of Andes Virus (ANDV): A Systematic Review of Transmission Dynamics, Viral Shedding, and Public Health Implications.

Andes virus (ANDV) is the only hantavirus with well-documented evidence of person-to-person transmission. However, key parameters related to transmission timing, viral shedding, exposure contexts, and public health management remain incompletely defined. We conducted a systematic review in accordance with PRISMA 2020. MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched from database inception up to 14 May 2026. Eligible studies reported epidemiological, virological, clinical, or public health data relevant to ANDV infection, person-to-person transmission, viral shedding, and/or outbreak c

Evaluating the susceptibility of various common cell lines and assessing inactivation conditions to Mpox virus.

Over the past decade, numerous infectious diseases have emerged. In 2022, the World Health Organization declared the Mpox outbreak a global public health emergency, as the virus spread rapidly to over 107 countries. As of May 2023, Taiwan continued to observe sporadic instances of the disease. Understanding host cell susceptibility and viral inactivation conditions is crucial for elucidating viral mechanisms and developing effective antiviral therapies or vaccines. In this study, we evaluated the susceptibility of commonly utilized laboratory cell lines to the Mpox virus by serial passage and

A Novel Medical Diagnosis model for COVID-19 infection detection based on Deep Features and Bayesian Optimization.

A pneumonia of unknown causes, which was detected in Wuhan, China, and spread rapidly throughout the world, was declared as Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Thousands of people have lost their lives to this disease. Its negative effects on public health are ongoing. In this study, an intelligence computer-aided model that can automatically detect positive COVID-19 cases is proposed to support daily clinical applications. The proposed model is based on the convolution neural network (CNN) architecture and can automatically reveal discriminative features on chest X-ray images through its con

Local constraints to access appropriate malaria treatment in the context of parasite resistance in Cambodia: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Despite emerging drug resistance in Cambodia, artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) is still the most efficacious therapy. ACT is available free of charge in the Cambodian public sector and at a subsidized rate in the private sector. However, un- and mistreated cases in combination with population movements may lead to the further spread of resistant parasites, stressing the importance of understanding how the perceived aetiology of malaria and associated health-seeking behaviour may delay access to appropriate treatment. A qualitative study explored these factors after an ep

Ten quick tips for spatial transcriptomics analysis.

Spatial transcriptomics (ST) enables genome-wide gene expression profiling while retaining spatial context within tissue sections. Since the foundational work by Ståhl et al. in 2016, the field has expanded rapidly, with diverse platforms now spanning sequencing-based (e.g., Visium, Visium HD, Slide-seq, Stereo-seq, and Seq-Scope) and imaging-based (e.g., MERFISH, Xenium, and CosMx SMI) approaches. The breadth of platforms, data structures, and computational tools, however, can be daunting for newcomers. Here, we present ten quick tips spanning the entire ST research workflow: whether ST suits

Perinatal mood and anxiety diagnoses and treatment increased among medicaid births, 2017-2021.

Despite funding the most births in the United States (US), we know little about basic patterns and trends of mental health conditions among Medicaid-insured women during pregnancy and after delivery. We sought to characterize the prevalence of diagnosis and treatment for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD) among women with Medicaid health insurance coverage. We conducted serial, cross-sectional analyses of women with live-birth deliveries during 2017-2021 using Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS) claims. To construct state-specific PMAD diagnosis and treatment

Establishment of a STAT6 Reporter Assay for Screening Environmental Toxicants Affecting Allergic Airway Inflammation.

Air pollution-associated allergic airway inflammation is an increasing public health concern. Interleukin‑4 (IL‑4) and interleukin‑13 (IL‑13), which activate the Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 6 (STAT6) pathway, a central mediator of allergic airway inflammation, may modulate the respiratory toxicities of pollutants. The present study describes the generation and validation of a stable STAT6 luciferase reporter assay in human airway epithelial cells for evaluating environmental toxicants that modulate STAT6 signaling. Human bronchial epithelial 16HBE14o- cells were transduced

Differential susceptibility of Leydig and Sertoli cells to bisphenol A.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that is increasingly becoming a vital factor in public health due to its ubiquity and toxicity. BPA is associated with male infertility via the disrupted function of Leydig and Sertoli cells. Despite extensive research, the current understanding of the specific pathological concentrations and the mechanisms following BPA exposure still remain questionable. Therefore, we investigated the susceptibilities and underlying mechanisms in Leydig and Sertoli cells following treatment with various BPA doses (0.0001-100 µM in a 10-fold serial dilutio

Rapid and simultaneous detection of Japanese encephalitis virus by real-time nucleic acid sequence-based amplification.

Japaneses encephalitis (JE) is most common zoonoses caused by Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) with a high mortality and disability rate. To take timely preventive and control measures, early and rapid detection of JE RNA is necessary. But due to characteristic brief and low viraemia, JE RNA detection remains challenging. In this study, a real-time nucleic acid sequence-based amplification (RT-NASBA) was developed for rapid and simultaneous detection of JEV. Four pairs of primer were designed using a multiple genome alignment of all JEV strains from GenBank. NASBA assay established and optima

[Detection of inferior myocardial infarction based on densely connected convolutional neural network].

Inferior myocardial infarction is an acute ischemic heart disease with high mortality, which is easy to induce life-threatening complications such as arrhythmia, heart failure and cardiogenic shock. Therefore, it is of great clinical value to carry out accurate and efficient early diagnosis of inferior myocardial infarction. Electrocardiogram is the most sensitive means for early diagnosis of inferior myocardial infarction. This paper proposes a method for detecting inferior myocardial infarction based on densely connected convolutional neural network. The method uses the original electrocardi

Superwarfarin Exposure: An Important Uncommon Cause of Painless Bleeding.

Painless bleeding in a patient presenting from the community with elevated coagulation studies rarely makes the physicians suspect superwarfarin or rodenticide poisoning. Although a significant number of superwarfarin exposure cases are diagnosed every year, we believe there appears to be delay in diagnosis and confusion in determining what is the ideal way to treat and monitor these patients during the management. This is the first thorough literature review of all the reported cases of superwarfarin poisoning which also studied the clinical presentation, management and follow-up patterns. We

An inhalational swine model for the characterization of physiological effects and toxicological profile associated with cyanide poisoning.

Cyanides are highly toxic compounds that have been used as weapons of terrorism throughout history. Cyanide (CN) is acutely toxic by all routes of administration; however, inhalation is the main exposure route. To adequately test effective countermeasures against inhalational CN threats, robust and well-characterized animal models are needed. This paper describes the initial development of a hydrogen cyanide (HCN) exposure swine model for documenting the physiological effects and toxicological profile during and after HCN inhalation exposure. Animals were implanted with telemetry transmitters

Classification of human and zoonotic group hepatitis E virus (HEV) using antigen detection.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is one of the major pathogens that cause acute viral hepatitis. The human (genotypes 1 and 2) and zoonotic (genotypes 3 and 4) groups of HEV present different epidemiology and clinical features. In this study, we developed a classification method for rapidly classifying HEV into human or zoonotic groups that combines a general antigen test with a zoonotic group-specific antigen test. Evaluation of serial samples from HEV-infected rhesus monkeys indicated that HEV antigen-positive samples can be classified using the antigen-based classification method. The antigen-based
