Steroidal glycoalkaloids (SGAs), which are widely produced by potato, even in other Solanaceae plants, are a class of potentially toxic compounds, but are beneficial to host resistance. However, changes of the other metabolic process along with SGA accumulation are still poorly understood and researched. Based on RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and bioinformatics analysis, the global gene expression profiles of potato variety Helan 15 (Favorita) was investigated at four-time points during light exposure. The data was further verified by using quantitative Real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). When compared to the

This study describes 32 fungal endophytes isolated from different tissues of Brugmansia aurea Lagerh. Each fungal strain was authenticated based on internal transcribed spacer rDNA sequence. Phylogenetic analysis showed that these fungi are distributed in three classes, seven orders and 12 genera. The dichloromethane extracts of endophytic strains were screened for anticancer and antimicrobial activity. Anticancer activity of extracts against human cancer cell lines revealed that 50% strains are active with IC 50 < 10 μg/mL. While analysing antimicrobial potential against both Gram-positive a

BACKGROUND: Tomato leaf curl disease, caused by rapidly evolving begomoviruses, poses a major threat to tomato production worldwide. Although resistance genes like Ty-1/Ty-3 have effectively managed key viruses such as tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), emerging new viral variants continuously challenge this control.
RESULTS: In this study, we identified and characterized a resistance-breaking isolate of tomato leaf curl Karnataka virus (ToLCKV, MZ578458, species: Begomovirussolanumkarnatakaense) from symptomatic tomato genotypes carrying the Ty-gene(s). Agro-infectious construct of this

BACKGROUND: Potato virus Y (PVY) was first discovered by Smith in 1931 and is currently ranked as the fifth most significant plant virus. It can cause severe damage to plants from the family Solanaceae, which results in billions of dollars of economic loss worldwide every year. To discover new antiviral drugs, a class of multifunctional urazole derivatives bearing a stereogenic CN axis were synthesized with excellent optical purities for antiviral evaluations against PVY.
RESULTS: The absolute configurations of the axially chiral compounds exhibited obvious distinctions in antiviral bioactiv

The African boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum) is a medicinal plant belonging to the Solanaceae family that is used in traditional pharmacopeia. Here, its biological potential was assessed by analyzing the essential oil from its leaves (EOLF), extracted by hydro-distillation and major terpenes characterized by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). GC-MS analysis of EOLF identified fourteen compounds representing 99.95% of the total mass, which was dominated by carvacrol (35.96%) and sabinene (17.06%). EOLF exhibited antioxidant activity as characterized by several assays, includ

Leishmaniosis is an important human disease very difficult to treat. For this reason, many researchers in the world have been look- ing for anti-leishmanial chemical components present in several plant species. In Costa Rica, since no studies have been done in this field, this work aimed at the search of active chemical components in local plants that may have an activity against Leishmania sp. A total of 67 plants were selected from the Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve (REBAMB). For these collected plants, fresh or dried hidroalcoholic extracts of root, stem, mature or young leaves, f
