Long-Term Outcomes of In-Office Laser-Assisted Marsupialization of Vocal Fold Mucous Retention Cysts.

OBJECTIVES: Vocal fold cysts have been traditionally treated with microsurgical excision under general anesthesia. Awake in-office laser-assisted drainage and marsupialization are an alternative treatment approach to address vocal fold mucous retention cysts in select patients to avoid the risks of general anesthesia.1 While short-term efficacy of the approach has been described, longer-term voice outcomes and rates of recurrence are unknown. METHODS: A multi-institutional retrospective chart review was conducted of patients with vocal fold mucous retention cysts treated with in-office laser-

Platelet Rich plasma injection of the vocal folds in benign vocal pathologies.

PURPOSE: There are few options for treatment of dysphonia secondary to vocal pathology related to lamina propria scar, atrophy, sulcus, or inflammatory disorders. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) may provide anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties seen with other tissue engineering therapies without the risks associated with these treatments. We evaluated vocal fold (VF) injection of PRP for feasibility, phonatory effects, patient satisfaction and durability. METHODS: Patients with dysphonia secondary to vocal fold scar, atrophy, sulcus and inflammatory lesions were included. PRP injections w

The Impact of Medical Comorbidities on Cough Improvement Following Superior Laryngeal Block.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic refractory cough is defined as cough lasting greater than 8 weeks and with an unclear etiology. Blockade of the internal branch superior laryngeal nerve (iSLN) has been shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of chronic cough. It remains unknown, however, if underlying comorbidities impact patient response to iSLN blockade. METHODS: A total of 44 patients aged 18 years and older were seen at our institution's Laryngology clinics between 2019 and 2022 and treated with iSLN blockade. Patient demographics, comorbidities, and pre- and post-treatment cough severity in

Vibratory Characteristics of Diplophonia Studied by High Speed Video and Vibrogram Analysis.

Diplophonia can occur in patients with polyps, atrophy, paralysis, or scars. Its vibratory patterns have not been well characterized. High-speed video (HSV) analysis can contribute to their understanding. Twenty subjects with a diplophonic voice quality were studied by HSV. Diplophonia was due to medical causes including vocal fold paresis (n = 7), vocal atrophy (n = 5), polyps (n = 5), and scars/sulci (n = 3). The HSV was analyzed using a multislice digital videokymography (DKG). The DKG tracing was analyzed qualitatively and then transformed into a vibrogram waveform signal for frequency ana

ROC Analysis Cut-off Points of Hellenic Voice Handicap Index for Neurogenic Voice Disorders Patients: an Exploratory Study.

OBJECTIVE: The inclusion of subjective methods for evaluating Voice Disorders is proven an essential factor for diagnosis as these methods include self-reported questionnaires (eg, Voice Handicap Index-VHI) for everyday clinical practice. In turn, by obtaining cut-off scores of self-perceived questionnaires intended for assessment procedures of different voice disorders (eg, patients with neurological problems), the clinicians might be helped toward finding their patients' needs leading to better monitoring, and treatment suggestions. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to estimate the
