Naphthoquinone (1,4-NQ) and its derivatives (NQs, juglone, plumbagin, 2-methoxy-1,4-NQ, and menadione) have a variety of therapeutic applications, many of which are attributed to redox cycling and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Dystrophic calcinosis cutis can be associated with severe pain, decreased mobility, increased risk of infection and significantly decreased quality of life. Laterite ore is one of the important sources of nickel (Ni). However, it is difficult to liberate Ni from ore structure during reduction roasting. This paper provided an effective way for a robust recovery of Ni from laterite ore by H2 reduction using sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3) as a promoter. . We evaluate the distribution of sulfide and thiosulfate (TS) in biological samples of four dairy farmers died inside a pit connected to a manure lagoon. Autopsies were performed 4 days later. Toxicological analyses of sulfide and TS were made using an extractive alkylation technique combined with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). We present the case of a non-dialyzed patient with chronic kidney disease and biopsy-proven calciphylaxis who presented with painful cutaneous ulcers on both legs. The skin ulcers drastically improved within 6 months after the initiation of hemodialysis, aggressive wound care, the control of a mineral and bone disorder, and the administration of sodium thiosulfate and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Notably, the patient's serum levels of C-reactive protein and calciprotein particles decreased and her serum albumin and fetuin-A levels increased in parallel with the alleviation of her calciphylaxis.

Cyanide is rapidly reacting and causes arrest of aerobic metabolism. The symptoms are diffuse and lethal and require high clinical suspicion. Remediation of symptoms and mortality is highly dependent on quick treatment with a cyanide antidote. Presently, there are two widely accepted antidotes: sodium thiosulfate and hydroxocobalamin. These treatments act on different components of cyanide's metabolism. Here, we present two cases resulting from the same source of cyanide poisoning and the use of both antidotes separately used with differing outcomes.
