The role of the testicles in male psychological development.

In this paper the role of the testicles in male psychological development is thoroughly investigated. All previous psychoanalytic studies are reviewed; new clinical material is presented; critical research data from pediatric urology and physiological sex research are utilized. A number of significant conclusions emerge. (1) Certain cases of pathological castration anxiety are explained by a psychosomatic phenomenon (the "testicular vicious cycle") caused by actual and perceived threats to the genitals. (2) Testicular factors may be decisive in various neurotic symptom formations beginning wit

A controlled study of Tourette syndrome. VI. Early development, sleep problems, allergies, and handedness.

Developmental milestones, problems with bladder and bowel control, sleep disturbances, allergies, and handedness were compared in 247 consecutive Tourette syndrome (TS) patients, 17 patients with attention-deficit disorder (ADD), 15 patients with ADD secondary to TS (ADD 2(0) TS), and 47 random controls. There were no significant differences in age of first talking or walking. By contrast, there were significant differences in problems with bladder and bowel control between TS patients and controls, as measured by age of first toilet training, age of last bed-wetting, frequency of enuresis, an

Effects of Home Nursing and Rehabilitation on Daily Life and Outgoing Activities in a Patient With Interstitial Pneumonia Supported by a High-Flow Nasal Cannula: A Case Report.

A high-flow nasal cannula is used as the primary therapy for patients with respiratory failure. Its effectiveness, however, is contingent upon proper patient monitoring by trained healthcare professionals. The case report highlights the benefits of home nursing and rehabilitation in an 81-year-old woman with rheumatoid-related interstitial pneumonia (complicated by drug-induced interstitial pneumonia) who developed respiratory failure. She lived at home with her family while undergoing high-flow therapy. At the outset of the home visit care, she was bedridden, had an indwelling urinary cathete

Urethral atresia and anhydramnios at 18 weeks of gestation can result in normal development.

INTRODUCTION: Second-trimester anhydramnios is incompatible with survival unless amniotic fluid volume is restored. We describe the long-term outcome of a child with documented anhydramnios at 17 weeks. CASE REPORT: A 28-year-old gravida II had anhydramnios at 17 weeks. At 19 weeks, the bladder measured 12 cm, and karyotype was XY. At 21 weeks, a fistula between the bladder and the amniotic space developed. At 36 weeks, a 2800 g boy with prune belly phenotype was delivered. The urachus was patent and drained urine. There was a completely obstructing membrane below the veru montanum and a hypo

Congenital chloride diarrhoea.

Congenital chloride diarrhoea is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by life-long watery diarrhoea of prenatal onset with high faecal Cl- concentration. Seventy-nine patients have so far been reported. The basic defect involves the active Cl-/HCO3- exchange mechanism of the distal ileum and colon. The defect causes impaired absorption of Cl-, acidity of intestinal contents because of impaired excretion of HCO3-, and, secondarily, impaired Na+ absorption. Intra-uterine diarrhoea leads to hydramnios and often to premature birth. Unless adequately treated, most patients will die of hypo-

Risk-based treatment targets for onsite non-potable water systems using new pathogen data.

Using local sources (roof runoff, stormwater, graywater, and onsite wastewater) to meet non-potable water demands can minimize potable water use in buildings and increase supply reliability. In 2017, an Independent Advisory Panel developed a risk-based framework to identify pathogen log reduction targets (LRTs) for onsite non-potable water systems (ONWSs). Subsequently, California's legislature mandated the development and adoption of regulations-including risk-based LRTs-for use in multifamily residential, commercial, and mixed-use buildings. A California Expert Panel was convened in 2021 to

Urinary incontinence, catheters, and urinary tract infections: an overview of CMS tag F 315.

The majority of nursing home residents experience some type of urinary incontinence. Other bladder-related disorders (eg, urinary retention and urinary tract infection) also are common in long-term care facilities. Efforts to manage urological conditions such as the use of indwelling catheters and absorbent products, perineal hygiene and care, toileting, and bladder rehabilitation are areas of concern and have become the subject of revised regulations. The intent of recent changes to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services surveyor guidance for incontinence and urinary catheters is to e

Treatment strategies, radiological recovery, and neurodevelopmental outcomes in paediatric Maple Syrup Urine Disease: a 20-year single-centre experience from Türkiye.

Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder characterised by defective branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) catabolism, leading to neurotoxicity, recurrent metabolic crises, and neurodevelopmental impairment. Evidence on long-term outcomes in paediatric cohorts, particularly with pharmacological adjuncts such as sodium phenylbutyrate (NaPBA) and radiological recovery, remains limited. We undertook a retrospective review of 13 paediatric patients with MSUD (69.2% classic phenotype, 30.8% intermittent) followed at a tertiary metabolic centre in Türkiye between 2
