We describe a patient with peripheral T cell lymphoma of the Waldeyer's ring that ran a highly aggressive course. This is followed by a discussion on the differential diagnoses of nasal T/NK cell lymphoma and Ki-1 ALCL, based on clinical and pathological features.

Follicular dendritic cell tumors are uncommon, and all the reported cases have occurred as primary lymph node tumors. The role of lymphography for patients with malignant lymphomas involving Waldeyer's ring was retrospectively reviewed. The materials were 97 patients who were treated at Kyushu University Hospital from January, 1966 to December 1982. Lymphography was performed in 72 patients. Abnormal retroperitoneal nodes were detected only in 13 of them (18%). This paper reports a case of recurrence of tonsillar cancer on the right 6 months after radiotherapy with pharyngeal hemorrhage for 4 days and aggravation in the next day. The pharyngeal hemorrhage was severe in the case and the maximum of single amount of bleeding was approximately 200 ml. The examination showed active bleeding on the ulcer with a diameter of 2 cm in the right tonsil and the depth of 1 cm. Autoamputation is an uncommon phenomenon that has been reported for the fingers, toes, appendix, ovary, spleen, etc. Autoamputation of the tongue has never been reported. An elderly man with carcinoma of lateral pharyngeal wall and tonsil presented with an autoamputated tongue that was attached to the oral cavity with a thin band. The patient required detachment of the tongue and tracheostomy followed by radiotherapy for the primary tumour.

Presenting a study about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) determination by immunohistochemistry and "in situ" hybridization, in 25 samples of squamous cell papillomata (15 tonsilar and 10 laryngeal lesions). Some conditions of the tonsils and adenoids often present problems in diagnosis for the surgical pathologist. These include variations of normal histologic features, atypical reactive and metaplastic lesions, hamartomas, papillomas, carcinomas, and some types of lymphomas. The reasons for errors in histopathologic diagnosis have been emphasized, and the clinicopathologic features that can help to prevent misdiagnoses are discussed.
