The clinical and radiographic success of Endoflas compared with other root canal obturating materials in primary teeth: A systematic review.

Pulpectomy aims at retaining the tooth in the asymptomatic state until exfoliation. Root canal obturating materials should resorb in synchronization with the primary root and get eliminated rapidly upon accidental extrusion. This systematic review aims at appraising the clinical and radiographic outcomes of Endoflas as an obturating material for primary teeth. An extensive literature search on obturating materials used for primary teeth using MeSH terms in PubMed, Cochrane library, and Ovid® from September 2002 to March 2020. Studies evaluating the clinical and radiographic success of Endoflas

Hypophosphatasia and the importance of the general dental practitioner - a case series and discussion of upcoming treatments.

Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is an inherited metabolic disorder that results in poorly mineralised bones and teeth. Clinical symptoms vary widely from mild dental anomalies to fatal fetal defects. The most common dental symptoms include exfoliation of the primary incisors before the age of three with little or no root resorption, large pulp chambers, alveolar bone loss and thin dentinal walls. There is generally minimal periodontal inflammation associated with the bony destruction and tooth loss. The general dental practitioner is usually the first clinician to spot signs of the milder forms of HPP.

[Mean age of dental eruption in a school-age population analyzed by 2 methods].

BACKGROUND: Because dental eruption is the result of a series of physiological events, it is important to acknowledge precisely the mean age of exfoliation and eruption of each dental organ. This is useful to establish diagnostic, preventive and treatment criteria. The aim of this study was to compare the cross-sectional and cohort methods toward estimating the average age of dental eruption. METHODS: The study sample was comprised of 524 school-age children from the State of Mexico (273 females and 251 males). Only permanent teeth were surveyed: the first upper molar and central and lateral

Growth and development considerations in the diagnosis of gingivitis and periodontitis in children.

Increasing information emphasize the relevance of the prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment of periodontal diseases in children. In order to avoid erroneous diagnosis and unnecessary treatments, the pediatric dentist is required to differentiate between pathologic processes and normal changes that take place in the periodontum with age. The present review outlines structural and functional changes of the periodontal structures, the establishment and maturation of the oral microflora and immune defense reactions to periodontal pathogens in children and adolescents. The age-related ten

Cellular events at the onset of physiological root resorption in rabbit deciduous teeth.

For elucidation of how physiological root resorption of deciduous teeth is initiated, the cellular events that occur surrounding the root of rabbit deciduous teeth before and at the onset of physiological root resorption were observed by means of light and electron microscopy. In addition, the cytodifferentiation of odontoclasts during the initial phase of this root resorption was evaluated by histochemical staining of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity as a marker odontoclasts and their precursors. The present investigation was focused on the physiological root resorption of

Wnt and BMP Signaling Crosstalk in Regulating Dental Stem Cells: Implications in Dental Tissue Engineering.

Tooth is a complex hard tissue organ and consists of multiple cell types that are regulated by important signaling pathways such as Wnt and BMP signaling. Serious injuries and/or loss of tooth or periodontal tissues may significantly impact aesthetic appearance, essential oral functions and the quality of life. Regenerative dentistry holds great promise in treating oral/dental disorders. The past decade has witnessed a rapid expansion of our understanding of the biological features of dental stem cells, along with the signaling mechanisms governing stem cell self-renewal and differentiation. Abnormal Enamel Mineralization and Hypercalcemia due to GNA11 Variants.

Abnormal enamel mineralization has been reported in genetic conditions associated with hypocalcemia but never with hypercalcemia. In the present study, we report 10 patients from 2 unrelated families in whom hypomineralized enamel co-segregated with hypercalcemia due to a complete deletion or frameshifting premature truncation (p.(Ser18Argfs*2)) of the guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G-protein) subunit α11 (GNA11) gene. Both GNA11 variants were heterozygous and predicted to cause a loss of function of Gα11. Multiproxy imaging analyses of naturally exfoliated primary teeth and clinically ex

Traumatic dental injuries during anaesthesia. Part II: medico-legal evaluation and liability.

INTRODUCTION: Claims for tooth damage following intubation are increasing. An anaesthetic chart (AC) has been proposed to describe patient's pre-existent dental diseases and any possible lesions caused during intubation and extubation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of 235 cases of dental lesions reported in litigation files from January 2000 to June 2009. Based on preoperative oral inspection the anaesthetist decided whether or not to use a protective aid. Two different tooth protectors were applied: (i) a standard mouthguard and (ii) silicone impression putty. RE

Hypercementosis Associated with ENPP1 Mutations and GACI.

Mineralization of bones and teeth is tightly regulated by levels of extracellular inorganic phosphate (Pi) and pyrophosphate (PPi). Three regulators that control pericellular concentrations of Pi and PPi include tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP), progressive ankylosis protein (ANK), and ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 (ENPP1). Inactivation of these factors results in mineralization disorders affecting teeth and their supporting structures. This study for the first time analyzed the effect of decreased PPi on dental development in individuals with generalized art

[What is the relation between the presence of caries in the deciduous dentition and the chronology of the eruption of the permanent teeth?].

Based on data obtained from a prospective epidemiological study in a random sample of 4468 Flemish children, accurate emergence ages for permanent teeth could be established. When data on permanent tooth emergence in different populations are compared, differences are most pronounced for premolars. Several authors hypothesised that this difference could be explained by a difference in caries experience in the primary molars. The purpose of this study was to quantify the effect of caries experience in a primary molar on the timing of emergence of its successor. The results indicate that the eme

Erythromelalgia presenting with premature exfoliation of primary teeth: a diagnostic dilemma.

Erythromelalgia is an extremely rare neurovascular disorder, characterized by symptoms of red, hot, and painful extremities. There is considerable confusion regarding the etiology and pathogenesis of this condition, and the diagnosis is essentially a clinical one. This condition may occur in isolation or in association with other myeloproliferative disorders. Unfortunately, no therapy is effective consistently in managing the symptoms, although early diagnosis can aid in psychological counseling and minimizing the frequency and severity of the attacks. The purpose of this report was to describ

Physical properties of root cementum: part 12. The incidence of physiologic root resorption on unerupted third molars and its comparison with orthodontically treated premolars: a microcomputed-tomography study.

UNLABELLED: INTRODUCTION Root resorption can occur as a physiologic or a pathologic process, and it is an unwanted side effect of orthodontic treatment. No baseline studies have assessed this phenomenon in the absence of force variables such as mastication, parafunction, and soft-tissue pressure. In this study, we investigated the incidence and quantitative value of root resorption on unerupted third molars with normal development using microcomputed tomography. METHODS: Nine unerupted, nonimpacted maxillary third molars were collected from 6 patients (ages, 19.47 plus /minus 1.89 years). The

Longitudinal occlusal changes from primary to permanent dentition in children with normal primary occlusion.

This purpose of this research was to examine the stability of normal occlusion during the transition from primary to permanent dentition. The sample consisted of 128 children (83 boys and 45 girls) 4.5 to 5.5 years old with normal occlusion in the primary dentition. The subjects were reexamined at 12.5 to 13.5 years. None had received orthodontic treatment. Although all the subjects had normal occlusion in the primary dentition, 72.7% (73.5% boys and 71.1% girls) had developed anomalies following eruption of the permanent teeth. These anomalies included crowding, Class II Division 1 or Class I

Osteonecrosis of the jaws beyond antiresorptive drugs and radiotherapy: a scoping review of uncommon etiologies, pathogenetic mechanisms and clinical management.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw is most commonly discussed in relation to antiresorptive or antiangiogenic medications and head and neck radiotherapy. However, a heterogeneous group of jaw osteonecrosis cases occurs in the absence of these recognized triggers and remains poorly systematized. This review summarizes the current evidence on jaw osteonecrosis occurring outside the classical settings of antiresorptive/antiangiogenic medication exposure and head and neck radiotherapy, with the aim of clarifying its etiological spectrum, clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, and management principle

LSTR Technique With CTZ Antibiotic Paste in Primary Molar: 5-Year Follow-Up Case Report.

Reports describing long-term outcomes of the lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR) technique in primary molars are limited. This paper presents a distinctive case in which a primary molar with complete root development and furcation involvement-usually an indication for conventional pulpectomy-was instead treated with LSTR, a technique generally recommended in advanced root resorption. The case adds evidence on the potential indications and clinical versatility of this approach in pediatric dentistry. A pediatric patient with uncooperative behavior presented with discomfort in a primar
