Increased activation and proliferation of T lymphocytes plays an essential role in the development of chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases. Currently used immunosuppressive drugs often do not provide long-lasting relief of symptoms and show a gradual loss of efficacy over time, and are accompanied by various side effects. Therefore, novel immunosuppressive lead substances are needed. For this purpose, an in-house library consisting of 600 extracts of plants from Panama was screened for inhibition of human T lymphocyte proliferation. As one of the hits, an ethyl acetate extract from the

Michael acceptors, such as chalcones and benzylidenes, are privileged scaffolds for the development of anticancer agents. Taking this into account, we developed a selective Claisen-Schmidt condensation of the dammarane-type triterpenoid hollongdione with pyridine-2-carbaldehyde, enabling controlled synthesis of mono- and bis-substituted triterpenes depending on the reaction conditions. The reaction demonstrated high temperature-dependent regioselectivity, providing C2-mono- 2 or 2,21-bis-substituted 3 triterpenes with yields up to 96% and 95%, respectively. The structures of the newly synthesi

GC-MS-based metabolite profiling was used to analyse the response of Medicago truncatula cell cultures to elicitation with methyl jasmonate (MeJa), yeast elicitor (YE), or ultraviolet light (UV). Marked changes in the levels of primary metabolites, including several amino acids, organic acids, and carbohydrates, were observed following elicitation with MeJa. A similar, but attenuated response was observed following YE elicitation, whereas little response was observed following UV elicitation. MeJa induced the accumulation of the triterpene beta-amyrin, a precursor to the triterpene saponins, a

A saponin-enriched extract from the Combretum trifoliatum Vent. leaves (SE-CTL) exhibited notable in vitro anti-inflammatory activity, with an IC50 of 46.39 µg/mL against LPS-induced Nitric Oxide (NO) production in RAW264.7 macrophages. Phytochemical investigation of SE-CTL led to the isolation and structure elucidation of nine triterpenoids (1-9) using HRESIMS, NMR, and comparison with literature data. Notably, triterpene acids (1 and 5) were identified for the first time from the Combretum genus. Most compounds showed significant anti-inflammatory activity (IC50 = 25.55-36.87 µM), and triter

The hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and aqueous-soluble fractions from leaves of Maytenus robusta (Celastraceae) were evaluated for their protective actions against ethanol-induced gastric lesions in rats. The treatment with all fractions (150 mg/kg) and omeprazol (30 mg/kg) significantly reduced the lesion index, the total lesion area, and the percentage of lesion, in comparison with the control group (p<0.05). Since the ethyl acetate-soluble fraction was found to be most active in the pylorus ligated model, this fraction was further investigated and resulted in the isolation of triterpene
