Immunisation is a cornerstone of preventive medicine. The prospects for continuation of this position are outstanding, since the medical intervention has been deemed as cost-effective in major publications on global disease prevention priorities. Recently, the financial foundations of global immunisation efforts have been strengthened considerably through the establishment of a large fund with a viable organisational underpinning. Routine vaccination programmes, usually known as Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), now have an almost world-wide coverage. Despite high coverage levels, ther

The 1853 Vaccination Act, adopted in England during XIX century, was the first law about compulsory vaccination in Europe. The Act caused a violent movement of opposition with the birth of Victorian anti-vaccination. The modern anti-vaccination movement was born in 1998 following a paper of Andrew Wakefield published in the Lancet. In this paper Wakefield illustrated a study of twenty patients and concluded that the administration of the MMR vaccine caused autism and some forms of colitis. The publication was later disowned by almost all authors. However the study of Wakefield caused a reducti

Background: Ghana ranked 31st worldwide and 3rd in Africa in the number of confirmed cases worldwide. We aimed to assess the intention to receive the monkeypox (MPOX) vaccine and its associated psychological antecedents among the Ghanaian population. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Ghana from November to December 2022. Snowball sampling was used to recruit participants via social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Telegram, and Facebook. The validated 5C scale was used to assess five psychological factors that influence vaccination behavior and intent: confi

Adult vaccination rates are well below national goals of 90%. We examined medical records of 810 adults > or =65 years to determine number and type of visits, discussion and patient refusals of vaccines, influenza vaccinations over three seasons, and pneumococcal and tetanus vaccinations over 5 years. From the medical record, immunization rates were 24.1% for annual influenza, 49.1% for pneumococcal polysaccharide and 28.6% for tetanus vaccine. During the 27 month study period, patients averaged 1.3 +/- 1.9 acute visits, 6.9 +/- 5.1 chronic visits and 0.48 +/- 0.91 preventive visits (mean +/-

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The current article reviews recent literature related to pediatric and adolescent vaccination, specifically focusing on social determinants of under-immunization, expanding adolescent immunization rates, and new recommendations surrounding the meningococcal serotype B vaccine (MenB).
RECENT FINDINGS: Vaccine refusals and vaccine-preventable diseases have been rising in some parts of the world, and appear to be linked to household factors, such as a family's socioeconomic status. Adolescents have lower immunization rates than younger children. Newer vaccines targeted at adol

The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine has an outstanding safety record and is highly efficacious. High coverage with MMR has led to the elimination of endemic measles, rubella, and congenital rubella syndrome in the US. The biggest challenges to global measles and rubella control and elimination are insufficient vaccination coverage globally and increasing hesitancy. Despite high two dose coverage rates, mumps has made a resurgence in the US and other countries. Mumps outbreaks have occurred primarily in close contact, high-density settings and most cases had received a second dose 10 o

UNLABELLED: The objective is to assess vaccine hesitancy among parents of children with food allergy compared with parents of healthy children, and to examine immunization practices in this population. In this cross-sectional analytic study conducted between March and October 2025, parents of children aged 0-36 months with food allergy completed a validated Vaccine Hesitancy Scale (VHS) in their native language. Vaccine hesitancy subscales-including perceived benefits and protective value of vaccination, anti-vaccine attitudes, non-vaccination strategies, and legitimization of hesitancy-along

BACKGROUND: SID (Supplemental Immunization Days) is a special strategy intended to accelerate eradication of poliomyelitis in countries where it is still endemic (India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in Asia, and Nigeria in Africa). This strategy is also applied in Nigeria's neighbours (Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin). Since the poliomyelitis virus was imported from Nigeria in 2001, Chad has reported cases of poliomyelitis every year. After 30 SIDs in Chad and the inaccurate or false attribution of side-effects to polio vaccines, some groups persistently refuse polio vaccination. To ascertain the

A two-dose mass vaccination programme with a combined vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) was adopted in the Netherlands in 1987, replacing the selective schoolgirl vaccination strategy introduced in 1974. To obtain insight into the effect of mass vaccination and the population's immunity, the antibody levels against rubella were studied in the general Dutch population and in religious groups refusing vaccination. In the national sample, we observed a high prevalence (96.5%) for rubella antibodies in vaccinated cohorts as well as in the older unvaccinated cohorts. No indications o

Tdap vaccination during pregnancy is essential to protect the fetus, yet the vaccination rate in the United States remains suboptimal. Little is known about pregnant women's perspectives or the factors that influence their Tdap vaccination decisions. Given that many pregnant women turn to social media and online sources for health information, this study aims to analyze social media posts from Reddit to better understand the needs of pregnant women regarding the maternal Tdap vaccine. This qualitative study analyzed the posts from Reddit collected from October 2020-2023. After screening, 86 po

OBJECTIVES: Vaccine hesitancy hinders some older adults from receiving immunization against potentially life-threatening and serious diseases such as pneumonia, influenza, COVID-19, and shingles. However, vaccine hesitancy can escalate from mere reluctance to hostility and paranoia.
METHODS: To examine such reluctance, data were drawn from the North Dakota Older Adults' Vaccine Use Study which surveyed 901 community-dwelling older adults about their vaccination perceptions and behaviors. We identified a subset of 59 participants who expressed antagonism towards researchers, healthcare workers

Vaccines are one of the most successful medical advances in modern times. Patients are increasingly questioning the necessity of immunizing themselves and their families, and family physicians should be aware of the risks and benefits of recommended immunizations to accurately counsel about adverse effects and address vaccine hesitancy. Vaccines are associated with local adverse reactions, such as pain and redness. Thimerosal is currently used only in multidose vials of influenza vaccine; exposure to thimerosal through vaccines is not associated with adverse neurologic outcomes. The measles-mu

Parents of school-age children are increasingly claiming nonmedical exemptions to refuse vaccinations required for school entry. The resultant unvaccinated pockets in many areas of the country have been linked with outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Many states are now focused on reducing rates of nonmedical exemptions by making exemption processes more restrictive or burdensome for the exemptor. These strategies, however, pose ethical problems and may ultimately be inadequate. A shift to strategies that raise the financial liabilities of exemptors may lead to better success and prove

Our objectives were to document and to analyze the U.S. Navy's smallpox vaccination program before Operation Iraqi Freedom, discerning lessons for future mass vaccination programs. This research scrutinized the challenges inherent in vaccinating approximately 40,000 personnel at diverse locations within a few weeks. We interviewed and observed participants at multiple locations throughout the vaccination process, while also collecting documentation. Subsequently, we analyzed how the Navy addressed the challenges of mass vaccination on a compressed timeline. We found that the population was vac

BACKGROUND: We conducted three serial cross-sectional representative surveys after a mass cholera vaccination campaign in Uvira, Democratic Republic of the Congo to (1) estimate the vaccination coverage and explore heterogeneity by geographic and demographic factors; (2) examine barriers and facilitators of vaccine uptake and (3) describe the changes in coverage over time and predict future coverage.
METHODS: We collected data on sociodemographics, self-reported vaccination status, population movement and knowledge, attitudes and behaviours related to killed oral cholera vaccines (kOCVs) in A

AIM: Despite Australia's high vaccination rates, an estimated 3.3% of children are under-vaccinated due to vaccine refusal and the proportion of parents with concerns is unclear. Amongst Australian parents, we aimed to determine the prevalence of vaccine concerns, resources and health-care providers (HCPs) accessed and satisfaction with these resources in two different settings. We also aimed to identify relationships between the level of vaccine concern, socio-economic status and vaccine uptake.
METHODS: Parents of children under 5 years attending general paediatric clinics in a tertiary pae
