"We need to accept our limited resources": a qualitative study exploring ambulance clinicians' experiences of working conditions when caring for patients with breathlessness.

BACKGROUND: Breathlessness is a common and potentially life-threatening symptom among patients and constitutes a frequent reason for ambulance dispatches. Within ambulance care, ambulance clinicians (ACs) are often required to make rapid clinical assessments and decisions under complex and unpredictable conditions. Despite this, there is limited knowledge of how ACs experience their working conditions in ambulance care when caring for patients with breathlessness. Little is known about how these working conditions influence their ability to balance clinical responsibility, patient needs, and e

Evolution of work conditions for employees driving for work in France based on data from the 2003, 2010 and 2017 SUMER surveys (Surveillance Médicale des expositions aux risques Professionnels).

INTRODUCTION: The occupational road-accident risk on public roads and the work conditions for professional driving is still an important issue in occupational health despite lower road-accident rates. This study presents the evolution over time of the work-related constraints for these employees based on the Sumer surveys carried out in 2003, 2010 and 2017. METHOD: Data from the 2010 and 2017 surveys were restricted to match the scope of the 2003 survey in order to enable prevalence data to be compared in equivalent populations. The main variable of interest was "driving (car, truck, bus, and

Health-care providers' perspectives on factors influencing return-to-work after surgery for nontraumatic conditions of the upper extremity.

STUDY DESIGN: This study is a descriptive survey. INTRODUCTION: Health care providers (HCPs) are key stakeholders who facilitate workers' return to work (RTW) following upper extremity surgery. Hand therapists play a major role in this process, yet we do not know if and/or how their perspectives differ from other HCPs. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: This study examined HCPs' opinion on factors that influence RTW after surgery for nontraumatic upper extremity conditions and whether HCPs from different disciplines differed in their opinion. METHODS: HCPs (occupational therapists, physiotherapists, han

The Effect of Shift Work and Poor Sleep on Self-Reported Skin Conditions: A Survey of Call Center Agents in the Philippines.

Night shift workers may have a disrupted circadian rhythm, which may contribute to the development of skin disease. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a significant difference in the prevalence and severity of self-reported skin disease between "regular" day shift workers compared to "graveyard" night shift workers. We conducted surveys from 630 call center agents in Manila, the Philippines, and they were analyzed regarding demographics, medical history, dermatologic history, lifestyle, and sleep. No difference was found in the prevalence of skin disease between shifts

Investigating the conditions in which women GPs thrive in general practice: what works, for whom, how and in what circumstances?

BACKGROUND: Global trends indicate an increasing number of women training as doctors. However this is not a group who appear to be thriving at work. Women GPs are at high risk of leaving the profession, experience higher rates of burnout, anxiety and depression and slower career progression than male counterparts. Existing research shows that patients value being seen by women GPs, and this staff group focus more on an individual's care needs while spending longer with them. This may contribute to their burnout and intention to leave the profession. Women GPs are also more likely to work part-

Early olfactory pre-conditioning during sensitive developmental periods is associated with enhanced detection performance in working dogs.

Early olfactory imprinting has been proposed as a strategy to enhance the performance of detection dogs, yet empirical evidence from operational contexts remains limited. This study evaluated the effects of early exposure to target odours on four core detection variables: sensitivity under tight-containment conditions, reaction distance, work endurance, and detection reliability. Twenty operational adult dogs served as controls, and four dogs underwent an early-learning protocol beginning during sensitive stages of neurosensory development. All dogs completed parallel test batteries under equi

Non-Invasive Assessment of Left Ventricular Myocardial Work in Conditions Associated With Increased Left Ventricular Wall Thickness.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular (LV) myocardial work (MW) assessment is a novel non-invasive tool for relatively load-independent assessment of LV myocardial contractile function. In this study, we compared LVMW characteristics across three conditions- aortic stenosis (AS), chronic kidney disease (CKD), and cardiac amyloidosis (CA)- that share increased LV wall thickness but arise from fundamentally different pathophysiological mechanisms. METHODS: The study included 25 consecutive patients in each of the following groups: severe AS scheduled for aortic valve replacement, CKD on maintenance hemo
