Metrizamide, a new water-soluble contrast medium with low toxicity, was used for cranial computed tomography (computerized cisternography) in 26 patients. When injected by lumbar puncture, the pericerebral cisterns (posterior fossa and sella turcica especially), can be visualized with much greater precision than with classical computed tomography. Whether CSF leaks at the level of the skull base can cause spontaneous intracranial hypotension remains a matter of controversy. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: We report results obtained in a prospective consecutive cohort of patients undergoing videoscopy-guided discectomy using the Destandau technique.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between June 1998 and August 2000, 40 patients underwent videoscopy-guided discectomy. There were 24 males and 16 females, mean age 43 years (24-78 years). Eighteen patients with spondylotic myeloradiculopathy who had undergone expansive laminoplasty after anterior cervical fusion were reviewed. It is the first report of a large presacral mass consisting of a perineurial cyst and a meningocele simultaneously. We report 43 consecutive surgically treated patients with pyogenic (37 patients) and tuberculous (6 patients) osteomyelitis of the thoracic and lumbar spine encountered within an 8-year period, including 1 with late recurrence after 15 months. BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Laminoplasty has been reported to achieve good operative results for treatment of cervical stenotic myelopathy. However, long-term results and prognostic factors have not been well documented.
