Algae-Derived Bioactives Reprogram the Gut-SIRT1-Kisspeptin Axis in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is increasingly recognized as a complex, multi-system disorder involving interactions among metabolic dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation, and neuroendocrine dysregulation, rather than a condition confined to the ovary. While current management strategies primarily target symptomatic manifestations, such as menstrual irregularity, hyperandrogenism, and insulin resistance, they do not directly address the underlying integrative pathways linking the gut microbiome, cellular energy sensing, and hypothalamic reproductive control. This review proposes a mech

Bile Acids Modulate Hepatic Glycolipid Metabolism via the Microbiota-Gut-Liver Axis in Lambs.

BACKGROUND: Bile acids are essential molecules that facilitate lipid emulsification and function as signaling molecules mediating host-microbiota interactions. They shape the gut microbial structure and function, playing a critical role in metabolic regulation via the gut-liver axis. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the effects of exogenous bile acids, primarily hyocholic acid (HCA), on the microbiota-gut-liver metabolism in male Tan-lambs fed a high-grain diet. METHODS: Thirty six-mo-old male Tan lambs (Ovis aries) were randomly allocated into either a control group or an HCA-sup

Effect of Polyphenol-Rich Interventions on Gut Microbiota and Inflammatory or Oxidative Stress Markers in Adults Who Are Overweight or Obese: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Being overweight and obesity are major public health concerns that demand effective nutritional strategies for weight and body composition management. Beyond excess weight, these conditions are closely linked to chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut dysbiosis, all of which contribute to cardiometabolic risk. Polyphenols-bioactive compounds in plant-based foods-may support improvements in body composition and metabolic health by modulating gut microbiota, reducing oxidative stress, and suppressing inflammation. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to e

The Microbiome and p-Inulin in Hemodialysis: A Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: The intestinal microbiome is an appealing target for interventions in ESKD because of its likely contribution to uremic toxicity. Before conducting clinical trials of microbiome-altering treatments, it is necessary to understand the within-person and between-person variability in the composition and function of the gut microbiome in patients with ESKD. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter, nonrandomized, crossover feasibility study of patients on maintenance hemodialysis consisting of three phases: pretreatment (8 weeks); treatment, during which the prebiotic, p-inulin, was adminis

Characterizing the gut microbiota in females with infertility and preliminary results of a water-soluble dietary fiber intervention study.

Despite the advances in assisted reproductive technology, approximately 8-12% of the individuals worldwide who are willing to conceive are unable to do so. Fertility depends on a receptive state of the endometrium and hormonal adaptations as well as the immune system. Local and systemic immunities are greatly influenced by the microbiota. The aim of the present study was to compare the gut microbiota in female patients with that in infertility with fertile control subjects and to evaluate the effect of prebiotic partially hydrolyzed guar gum supplementation on gut dysbiosis and the outcome of

Supplementation of Lactobacillus plantarum or Macleaya cordata Extract Alleviates Oxidative Damage Induced by Weaning in the Lower Gut of Young Goats.

Weaning usually leads to stress in livestock, which has a negative impact on their growth and development. Research on oxidative stress and inflammation induced by weaning has not been reported in goats. Here, we focused on oxidative stress profile and inflammation status of the lower gut (jejunum, ileum, and colon) of goats. First, we illustrated the status of antioxidant activity and inflammation in the intestine of young goats on pre-(2 weeks postnatal, 2 wkpn) or post-(11 wkpn, weaning at day 45 postnatal)-weaned period of young goats. Malondialdehyde (MDA) was higher (p < 0.0001) in jejun

Dysbiosis is one of the risk factor for stroke and cognitive impairment and potential target for treatment.

More than 50 million people have various forms of cognitive impairment basically caused by neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and cerebrovascular diseases as well as stroke. Often these conditions coexist and exacerbate one another. The damaged area in post-stroke dementia may lead to neurodegenerative lesions. Gut microbiome functions like an endocrine organ by generating bioactive metabolites that can directly or indirectly impact human physiology. An alteration in the composition and function of intestinal flora, i.e. gut dysbiosis, is implicated in neurodegenerat

Emergent Rhythmicity in Proteinoid-BZ Hybrid Systems.

The emergence of life required the coupling of metabolism, structure, and heredity within self-organizing chemical systems. We show that thermal proteinoid microspheres, made from amino acids (Glu, Asp, Lys) at 170 °C, connect with the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. This creates stable, self-reproducing hybrid systems that display basic computational abilities. Scanning electron microscopy shows that BZ-proteinoid microspheres have unique spherical and polygonal morphologies (0.5-1.5 μm) and internal compartments. This is different from the spherical shape of pure proteinoids (1-5 μm). El

Oligofructose alleviates hyperandrogenism in polycystic ovary syndrome through gut microbiota-derived bile acids.

INTRODUCTION: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in reproductive-age women, characterized by hyperandrogenism and metabolic dysfunction. Dietary interventions are recommended as one of the first-line therapies. Oligofructose (OFS), a prebiotic fiber, has demonstrated clinical benefits in PCOS; however, its underlying mechanism remains unclear. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether OFS alleviates PCOS-like phenotypes through bile acid-dependent mechanisms and to identify downstream ovarian steroidogenic responses. METHODS: Letrozole-induced PCOS-like mice received OFS

Zhi-Zi-Chi Decoction Alleviates Depressive-like Behaviors by Regulating Gut Microbiota and Targeting the AMPK/PI3K-TOR Pathway via Its Metabolite Protocatechuic Acid.

Background: Neuroinflammation and gut-brain axis (GBX) dysregulation are key pathological drivers of stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders. Zhi-Zi-Chi Decoction (ZZCD), a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula, has been clinically used to alleviate mental disturbances via the TCM principle of "clearing heat and relieving restlessness." Still, its modern neuroprotective mechanisms, especially its links to gut microbiota and central signaling pathways, remain incompletely elucidated. Purpose: This study aimed to systematically investigate the therapeutic effects of ZZCD on chroni

On the formation of CN bonds in Titan's atmosphere-a unified reaction valley approach study.

In this work, we investigated the formation of protonated hydrogen cyanide HCNH+ and methylene amine cation CH[Formula: see text] (both identified in Titan's upper atmosphere) from three different pathways which stem from the interaction between CH4 and N+(3P). As a mechanistic tool, we used the Unified Reaction Valley Approach (URVA) complemented with the Local Mode Analysis (LMA) assessing the strength of the CN bonds formed in these reactions. Our URVA studies could provide a comprehensive overview on bond formation/cleavage processes relevant to the specific mechanism of eight reactions R1
