Endogenous enzyme activities and tibia bone development of broiler chickens fed wheat-based diets supplemented with xylanase, β-glucanase and phytase.

OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the effect of different levels of xylanase, β-glucanase and phytase on intestinal enzyme activities and tibia bone development in broiler chickens fed wheat-based diets. METHODS: Twelve experimental diets were formulated using a 3×2×2 factorial design (three doses of phytase and two doses of both xylanase and β-glucanase) and offered to 648 dayold Ross 308 male chicks having 6 replicates groups with 9 birds per replicate and lasted for 35 days. RESULTS: An interaction between the enzymes products improved (p<0.01) the activity of chymotrypsin. Protein content a

Response of broiler chickens to diets containing different levels of sodium with or without microbial phytase supplementation.

Phytate induced excessive mineral excretion through poultry litter leads to poor performance and environmental pollution. Exogenous microbial phytase supplementation to poultry diets reduce the environmental excretion of nutrient and improve bird's performance. However, excessive dietary sodium (Na) level may hinder the phytase-mediated phytate hydrolysis and negate the beneficial effects of phytase. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different concentration dietary Na on phytase activity and subsequent impact on broiler performance, bone mineralisation and

Effect of phytase on nutrient digestibility and expression of intestinal tight junction and nutrient transporter genes in pigs.

The study was conducted to determine the effects of high levels of phytase on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, phytate breakdown, and expression of mucosal tight junction and nutrient transporter genes in weanling pigs. A total of 128 barrows were penned in groups of four and used in a randomized completely block design and assigned to four treatments for a 28-d study. A two-phase feeding was implemented (phase 1: day 1 to 14; phase 2: day 15 to 28). The diets differed in dietary calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) levels (positive control [PC]: 8.1 to 7.1 g/kg Ca and 6.5 to 6.8 g/kg P;

Amino acid and mineral digestibility, bone ash, and plasma inositol is increased by including microbial phytase in diets for growing pigs.

BACKGROUND: The effect of microbial phytase on amino acid and energy digestibility is not consistent in pigs, which may be related to the phytase dosage or the adaptation length to the diet. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to test the hypotheses that increasing dietary phytase after an 18-day adaptation period: 1) increases nutrient and energy digestibility; 2) increases plasma P, plasma inositol, and bone ash of young pigs; and 3) demonstrates that maximum phytate degradation requires more phytase than maximum P digestibility. RESULTS: Data indicated that increasing inclusion of phyta

Effects of limestone particle size, phytate, calcium source, and phytase on standardized ileal calcium and phosphorus digestibility in broilers.

Work was carried out to determine the effects of limestone (LM) geometric mean diameter (GMD), phytate, Ca source, and phytase on standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of Ca and P in broilers. Twelve treatments (TRT) were tested. One basal corn and corn germ-based diet was prepared without adding inorganic Ca or P (TRT1, 0.02% Ca). Limestone from the same source (800 or 151 μm GMD) and bone (151 μm GMD) were added to TRT 2-4, (0.7% Ca). TRT5 was a corn/soybean meal (SBM) diet with 800 μm GMD LM (0.77% Ca). Buttiauxella sp. phytase was added (1,000 U/kg) to TRT 1-5 to prepare TRT 6-10, respect

Effect of supplementation of phytase to diets low in inorganic phosphorus on growth performance and mineralization of broilers.

There has been discussion regarding microbial phytase replacing inorganic phosphorus (P) supplementation in broiler diets. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to examine the effect of phytase supplementation on diets low in inorganic P. Ross 308 broilers (n = 288) were fed one of 6 experimental diets in 4 phases. The control diet had 16.20, 10.90, 9.40, and 6.10 g/kg inorganic P in the Starter, Grower 1, Grower 2 and Finisher phase respectively. The remaining diets had 10.50 g/kg inorganic P in the Starter phase. Two of the diets had graded reductions in inorganic P of 5.10, 3.60, and 0.60

Functional Metagenomics Approach for the Discovery of Novel Genes Encoding Phosphatase Activity.

Phosphate release from inorganic and organic phosphorus compounds can be enzymatically mediated. Phosphate-releasing enzymes, comprising acid and alkaline phosphatases, are recognized as useful biocatalysts in applications such as plant and animal nutrition, bioremediation, and diagnostic analysis. Here, we describe a functional metagenomics approach enabling rapid identification of genes encoding these enzymes. The target genes are detected based on small- and large-insert metagenomic libraries derived from diverse environments. This approach has the potential to unveil entirely new phosphata

Biogeochemical Pathways of Phytate-P Utilization in Soil: Plant and Microbial Strategies.

Phytate (salts of myo-inositol-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexakisphosphate) constitutes a large portion of the organic phosphorus in most soils, but its strong interactions with soil minerals and organic matter limit its availability to plants. Phytate can be used by plants only after it is desorbed from the soil matrix, with the inorganic P being released by phytases via cleavage of its phosphomonoester bonds. While plant phytases function primarily in its internal phytate remobilization, the role of microbial phytases in facilitating phytate-P utilization by plants remains poorly understood.
