Endoscopic Gluteus Medius and Minimus Repair With Allograft Augmentation Using Acellular Human Dermis.

Recently, attention has been given to recalcitrant lateral hip pain, also known as greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Although, historically, this has been attributed to greater trochanteric bursitis, the literature has shown that many patients will have a lesion of the gluteus medius and minimus tendons. Endoscopic hip abductor tendon repair has been shown to provide good outcomes with decreasing overall morbidity and is becoming more popular. However, failure rates have been reported to be as high as 35%, likely due to the poor tissue quality in this older population. Acellular human dermal

One-stage skin grafting of the exposed skull with acellular human dermis (AlloDerm).

In cases of soft tissue defects in which the calvaria is exposed, the use of flap is generally considered. However, in cases in which patients' general status is poor or vascular insufficiency is present, the use of flap becomes difficult. A 90-year-old male patient visited our outpatient clinic with a chief complaint of scalp defect accompanied by calvarial exposure after falling from an escalator. The patients' systemic status was poor, and the soft tissue defect was accompanied by calvarial exposure. Treatment involved removal of the outer table of the skull and application of acellular hum

Retrospective study of the application of acellular dermis in reconstructing full-thickness skin defects.

The purpose of the article is to evaluate the acellular dermis' utility in reconstructing full-thickness defects after scar contracture releasing and giant nevus resection. From the year 2012 to 2014, 18 consecutive patients underwent composite graft (thin autograft and alloderma) transplantation. Among these patients, 16 patients suffered from burned scar contracture in the upper extremities, and two young cases were met with giant nevus on the upper extremity. Ten of 13 adult cases with upper extremity scar affection were chosen for a comparative study. Twenty hands were randomly allocated i

Utility of acellular dermis-assisted breast reconstruction in the setting of radiation: a comparative analysis.

BACKGROUND: The role of acellular dermis in immediate prosthetic breast reconstruction remains unclear, particularly within a radiated field. The authors evaluated and compare outcomes following reconstruction with and without acellular dermis, and analyzed patients exposed to radiation therapy. METHODS: Retrospective review of 417 consecutive patients (592 breasts) treated from January of 2006 to October of 2008 at one institution was performed. Relevant patient characteristics and follow-up were recorded. Complications were categorized by type and end outcome, including nonoperative, operat

Transplanted acellular allograft dermal matrix. Potential as a template for the reconstruction of viable dermis.

The use of allograft donor skin as a permanent skin transplant in full-thickness burns is limited by its immunogenic properties and by the inappropriateness of immunosuppression of a burn patient. Allograft skin will initially take on a full-thickness wound, but it is ultimately rejected. This immunogenic response to allograft skin is directed primarily against the cells of the epidermis and the endothelial cells in the dermis. To date, it has not been possible to remove these immunogenic cells while maintaining the integrity of the nonimmunogenic components of allograft dermis. In this study,

Comparison of porcine acellular dermis and dura mater as natural scaffolds for bioengineering tympanic membranes.

Tympanic membrane (TM) perforation is a frequent cause of conductive hearing loss. The most popular surgical repair is autografting with temporalis fascia, although some disadvantages have been found with this method. Whether xenogeneous grafts produced by a tissue engineering approach could be used is unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility of bioengineering TM using porcine acellular dermis and dura mater with TM fibroblasts and to compare the effects of these two natural scaffolds. Both of the materials were prepared by sequentially using Triton X-100, nuclease so

The use of acellular human dermis composite graft for upper eyelid reconstruction in ocular injury.

BACKGROUND: Repair of the upper lid is more difficult because of the unique anatomic requirements of the upper eyelid. The eyelid must remain pliable, allow for retraction and protraction, and also have a mucous membrane on the posterior surface. A number of procedures are available to repair large to total upper eyelid defects. These surgical techniques include lower lid switch flaps and lower lid bridge flaps. However, these procedures have several disadvantages, such as the partial or total sacrifice of the lower lid and the need for secondary correction. The authors present a new surgical

Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene Combined with Human Acellular Dermis Matrix for the Nasal Reconstruction in Patients with Postoperative Deformities.

INTRODUCTION: Augmentation rhinoplasty is one of five aesthetic surgeries in the world. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) has been reported as a rational choice to augment the nasal dorsum and tip. However, its application for nasal tip augmentation has some debates. This study presented a technique using ePTFE grafts combined with human acellular dermis matrix (HADM) to reconstruct a deformed nose caused by previous rhinoplasties. METHODS: 50 female patients who came to the hospital from 08/2022 to 09/2022 for surgical revision of their nasal deformity. ePTFE was applied to reconstruc

Comparison of the efficacy of hard palate grafts with acellular human dermis grafts in lower eyelid surgery.

BACKGROUND: The Madame Butterfly procedure of lower eyelid reconstruction addresses lower eyelid retraction after blepharoplasty caused by middle lamellar tethering. After scar lysis and subperiosteal midface lift, the surgical procedure uses a lower eyelid spacer graft to prevent further postoperative contraction of the middle and posterior lamellae. Different graft materials have been used, including autogenous hard palate and AlloDerm. METHODS: The preoperative and postoperative photographs of consecutive patients who had undergone the Madame Butterfly procedure were analyzed retrospective

Economic Analysis of Using Free Fat Graft or Acellular Dermis to Prevent Post-parotidectomy Frey Syndrome.

A decision tree was constructed to determine the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of grafting techniques used to prevent Frey Syndrome. The authors performed a sensitivity analysis to calculate what the probability of preventing Frey Syndrome would have to be and maximum costs associated with using grafting techniques to warrant their use as more "cost-effective" choice than using neither. Decision pathways utilized were uses of (1) free fat graft (FFG), (2) acellular dermis, and (3) no grafting. The probability of developing Frey syndrome and costs were extracted from previous stud

Acellular human dermis, a good option for correcting the free border deficiency in secondary cleft lip deformity.

Free border deficiency is often seen after repairing the primary cleft lip. Mild deficiency of this area can be corrected by rearranging available local tissue, but, in severe cases, the absolute shortage of tissue requires recruitment of other tissues for a satisfying result. Although many types of materials have been used, filling materials alone have not provided favourable results. We have therefore attempted to overcome these limitations by combining V-Y advancement of the labial mucosa, with providing additional tissue to the deficient area with acellular human dermis or temporoparietal

Pelvic and abdominal wall reconstruction using human acellular dermis in the separation of ischiopagus tripus conjoined twins.

Separating ischiopagus conjoined twins presents the challenge of closing complex pelvic and abdominal wall defects. Traditionally, synthetic mesh has been used to reconstruct large body wall defects. Recent studies demonstrate increased complications while using synthetic mesh for complex musculofasciocutaneous defects. Acellular dermis is a bioprosthetic material that offers advantages over synthetic mesh. These include the ability to become revascularized and remodeled with host tissue, thereby increasing resistance to infection, providing tolerance to overlying skin breakdown, and augmentin
