Role of Acorus calamus and alpha-asarone on hippocampal dependent memory in noise stress exposed rats.

Stress is a condition or stimulus that threatens an organism's survival. Noise is an environmental stressor. It is well known that long term as well as acute exposure to noise led to oxidative stress. In the present study, it was investigated that the persistence of noise stress (100 dBA/4 h/d for 30 days) could cause memory impairment in rats and whether ethylacetate extract of AC EAAC (50 mg kg(-1) b.wt.) and alpha-Asarone (9 mg kg(-1) b.wt.). treatment can prevent or not. In order to understand the possible mechanism behind it, antioxidant status and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in

Blood pressure-lowering and vascular modulator effects of Acorus calamus extract are mediated through multiple pathways.

This investigation was aimed to provide a pharmacologic basis to the medicinal use of Acorus calamus in cardiovascular disorders. In normotensive anesthetized rats, crude extract of Acorus calamus and its ethylacetate and nHexane fractions caused a fall in mean arterial pressure. In rabbit aorta rings, crude extract was more potent against high K (80 mM), ethylacetate against phenylephrine (1 microM), whereas nHexane fraction was equipotent against both precontractions. Crude extract exhibited a vasoconstrictor effect on baseline. Pretreatment of aortic rings with crude extract and its fractio

Acorus tatarinowii alleviates D-galactose-induced Alzheimer's-like disease cognitive impairment and Aβ-induced pericytes dysfunction in mice.

Pericytes regulate cerebral blood flow (CBF) and excess amyloid in the brain. Pericyte dysfunction may contribute to the pathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Acorus tatarinowii (AT), a Chinese medicine commonly used to treat AD, protects the central nervous system. However, whether AT can regulate pericyte function and ameliorate cognitive dysfunction remains unclear. We employed a novel target recognition assay, quantitative measurement of CBF, hematoxylin and eosin staining, immunofluorescence staining, and Western blot to investigate the role of AT in improving cognitive function in patie

Acorus calamus recycled as an additional carbon source in a microbial fuel cell-constructed wetland for enhanced nitrogen removal.

Acorus calamus was recycled as an additional carbon source in microbial fuel cell-constructed wetlands (MFC-CWs), for efficient nitrogen removal of low carbon wastewater. The pretreatment methods, adding positions, and nitrogen transformations were investigated. Results indicated that alkali-pretreatment cleaved the benzene rings in dominant released organics, producing chemical oxygen demand of 164.5 mg from per gram of A. calamus. Pretreated biomass addition in the anode of MFC-CW attained the maximum total nitrogen removal of 97.6% and power generation of 12.5 mW/m2, which were higher than

Integrating non-targeted metabolomics and machine learning for comprehensive phytochemical profiling and intelligent discrimination of Acorus tatarinowii and its adulterants.

The dried rhizome of Acorus tatarinowii Schott (SCP) is a valued medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). However, its quality and efficacy are often compromised by adulteration with morphologically and chemically similar species, including Acorus calamus L. (ZCP), Acorus calamus f. submersa Glück (WCP), and Anemone altaica Fisch. (JJCP). To address this issue, we developed a robust authentication strategy by integrating ultra performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time of flight-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS)-based non-targeted metabolomics with machine lea
