Ocular adnexal IgG4-related disease has uniform clinicopathology.

IgG4-related disease is a recently proposed clinical entity with several unique clinicopathological features. Ocular adnexal IgG4-related disease, however, has not well been clarified. The purpose of the present study was to examine 21 patients (10 men, 11 women; age range, 39-86 years) with ocular adnexal IgG4-related disease. In 17 out of 21 patients (81%), the lacrimal glands were involved and bilateral lacrimal gland swelling was frequently observed (n = 12; 70.6%). In contrast, the conjunctiva was not involved in any of the patient. Histology was uniform with marked lymphoplasmacytic infi

Orbital, adnexal, and unusual systemic involvement in Rosai-Dorfman disease.

PURPOSE: To describe the unusual clinical course of a patient with Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) affecting the eyelid and orbital tissues and involving the spinal cord. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: A 68-year-old Indian man first presented in 1994 with a right lower eyelid lump for 1 year. An en bloc excisional biopsy was reported to show "reactive lymphoid hyperplasia with sclerosis." The patient subsequently defaulted follow-up and presented again in 1999 with bilateral lower eyelid masses and proptosis. Computerized tomography showed bilateral orbital, ethmoidal sinus, and frontal sinus so

Idiopathic granulomatous disease with ocular adnexal and cutaneous involvement in a dog.

Idiopathic granulomatous disease was the cause of bilateral eyelid masses and additional ocular adnexal disease in a dog. Histologically similar granulomas developed concurrently in distant sites including the limbs, prepuce, and testicles. Periodic resolution and redevelopment of the masses were observed and were unaffected by corticosteroid treatments. Rapid diminution of some of the masses was found after treatment with polyethylene glycol modified L-asparaginase, but poor client compliance and episodes of spontaneous resolution of some of the masses made it difficult to accurately assess e

Single-Port Laparoscopy vs Conventional Laparoscopy in Benign Adnexal Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Single-port laparoscopy (SPL) was developed approximately 30 years ago in minimally invasive surgery. Literature comparing SPL with conventional laparoscopy (CL) for adnexal surgery (i.e., cystectomy and adnexectomy) is inconsistent. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the advantage of SPL over CL for adnexal surgery. PubMed, Embase, and MEDLINE were searched for publications in English and in French published between 1975 and November 2015 using the following key words: (((single port) or (single site) or (one port) or (single-port access laparoscopy) or

Adnexal masses caused by pelvic inflammatory disease: MR appearance.

PURPOSE: To describe the morphologic and signal intensity characteristics of inflammatory adnexal masses in magnetic resonance (MR) images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MR images of 15 patients with a total of 20 confirmed inflammatory adnexal masses were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: The findings obtained from MR imaging were as follows: lesions have ill-defined borders; ill-defined areas of high intensity signals surround the masses on T(2)-weighted images; a "rim" at the innermost layer of the cyst wall exhibits high signal intensity on T(1)-weighted images and low intensity on T(2)-weight

Ocular and Adnexal Diseases in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Pregnant Women Attending HIV Clinics in Ibadan, Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus. It is transmitted through sexual intercourse, shared intravenous drugs, contaminated needle use, blood transfusion, and mother-to-child transmission. Of the patients with HIV, 50%-75% have ocular manifestations and this may be the primary presentation. This study was carried out in two prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT)/HIV clinics. The aim was to determine the incidence, patterns of presentation, and determinants of ocular and adnexal diseases in HIV-positive pregnant women attending HIV clinics to develop an eye …

Ocular Adnexal MALT Lymphoma in Association With Rosai-Dorfman Disease in a Child.

A 12-year-old boy presented with persistent proptosis and periorbital swelling after a school altercation. MRI revealed a mass in the right superonasal orbit extending along the orbital roof to the frontal bone and right frontal sinus, and intracranially to the dura of the right frontal lobe. Immunohistochemistry revealed CD20- and CD43-positive B cells consistent with a low-grade B-cell lymphoma. The patient was diagnosed with stage I ocular adnexal MALT lymphoma and treated with radiation therapy, followed by systemic chemotherapy. However, an enhancing orbital and intracranial mass remained

Imaging in gynecological disease (20): clinical and ultrasound characteristics of adnexal torsion.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the clinical and ultrasound characteristics of adnexal torsion. METHODS: This was a retrospective study. From the operative records of the eight participating gynecological ultrasound centers, we identified patients with a surgically confirmed diagnosis of adnexal torsion, defined as surgical evidence of ovarian pedicle, paraovarian cyst and/or Fallopian tube twisted on its own axis, who had undergone preoperative ultrasound examination by an experienced examiner, between 2008 and 2018. Only cases with at least two available ultrasound images and/or videoclips (one gra

[Use of computerized tomography in the diagnosis and treatment of suppurative inflammatory adnexal disease].

The use of computerized tomography in the diagnosis and treatment of purulent adnexal inflammations has made it possible to evolve diagnostic criteria for pyosalpinx, pyoovarium and tubo-ovarian abscess. By puncture and drainage of purulent cavities, under computerized-tomographic control, surgical intervention could be avoided in young women.

IgG4-related disease presenting with profound bilateral orbital and adnexal inflammation.

PURPOSE: IgG4-related disease is an immune-mediated fibroinflammatory condition that can affect almost every major organ system. Orbital and adnexal involvement in IgG4-related disease though not uncommon can be varied depending on the site of the lymphoplasmacytic infiltration. This case of profound bilateral orbital inflammation is presented to demonstrate the significant clinical manifestations of IgG4-related ophthalmic disease. OBSERVATIONS: A 52-year-old man with a remote and seemingly unrelated history of lymphadenopathy presented to the Oculoplastics clinic with massive bilateral uppe

Establishment of a combination scoring method for diagnosis of ocular adnexal lymphoproliferative disease.

Lymphoproliferative diseases (LPDs) of the ocular adnexa encompass the majority of orbital diseases and include reactive follicular hyperplasia (RFH), atypical lymphoid hyperplasia (ALH), and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALToma). Lymphoid follicles (LFs) are usually observed during the histological examination of LPDs. Currently, because there is a lack of specific clinical signs and diagnostic immunohistochemical biomarkers, it is difficult for pathologists to distinguish MALToma from ocular RFH and ALH, which makes the clinical management of these conditions difficult. Here,
