Mental health service use by adolescents in the 1970s and 1980s.

Shifts in the use of mental health services by adolescents between 1975 and 1986 are examined by levels of care--outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential treatment center, and inpatient. Data from National Institute of Mental Health surveys of U.S. facilities include client characteristics (age, sex, race, diagnosis, clinical history) and treatment characteristics (referral source, type of intervention, length of stay). Major increases in mental health service use were observed for all levels of care during this period. Nonetheless, a relatively small percent (less than 2%) of adolesce

Community health nurses' knowledge of, attitudes toward, and involvement with adolescent contraceptive services.

A national sample of community health nurses were surveyed to assess their knowledge of, attitudes toward, and involvement with reproductive health services. Results indicated that slightly more than half of the nurses provided or administered contraceptive services to adolescents, although 73% worked in settings where contraceptive services were provided to adolescents. However, only 3.6% indicated that adolescents were their primary client population. The majority (64.3%) stated that they felt as prepared to work with adolescents as they did with adult clients. While 98% were aware that most

A comparison of health behaviours in male adolescents with and without offending histories referred for adolescent health services in Turkey.

BACKGROUND: Offending and incarceration are important societal problems that might be reduced by improving early intervention. Most prior work identifying risk factors has focussed on early oppositional or aggressive behaviours and environmental problems. Among adults, it is well recognised that offenders have much poorer health than the wider population. This raises questions about whether behaviours that put health at risk while a teenager may also be good markers of subsequent offending. AIMS: To examine the relationship between risky health behaviours and delinquency by comparing male tee

Adolescent sexual and reproductive health needs and utilisation of health services in the Bono East Region, Ghana.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents in Ghana are vulnerable to unequal power relations at the personal, community and structural levels which in turn limits their opportunities in access to critical sexual and reproductive health information and services. There is therefore high unmet need for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services and the Bono East region typifies this situation, recording some of the poorest SRHR outcomes among adolescents. We, therefore, aimed to investigate the SRH needs (unmet), behaviors and utilization of SRH services among adolescents in the Bono East region

Jointly held care documents in child and adolescent mental health services: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Young people accessing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the UK represent a digital native generation, but practices around digital care documents lag behind. Jointly held care documents could be a way of improving accessibility and inclusion of young people and parents/carers in care planning. METHODS: Systematic searches of MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, PsycArticles, King's Fund, Google Scholar, The Health Foundation, Social Care Online, Cochrane Library, Royal College of Psychiatrists, Web of Science and EconLit databases were conducted alongside grey

Adolescents' use of maternal and child health services in developing countries.

CONTEXT: Because of high levels of early childbearing in developing countries, pregnancy and childbirth are the leading causes of death among women aged 15-19. Use of skilled antenatal and delivery care improves maternal outcomes through the prevention, management and treatment of obstetric complications, and infant immunizations prevent many childhood diseases. METHODS: Logistic regression analysis of Demographic and Health Survey data for 15 developing countries examined adolescents' use of antenatal care, delivery care and infant immunization services compared with use by older women. Bridging the gap between policy and practice in adolescent health services: evidence from Indian primary public health centers.

BACKGROUND: India's 243 million adolescents (21% of the population) face nutritional deficiencies, sexual and reproductive health concerns, mental health disorders, and rising non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Despite policies like Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK), major implementation gaps remain across public health facilities. METHODS: This scoping review, guided by Arksey and O'Malley's framework and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, assessed adolescent health services at Health and Wellness Centers, Primary Healthcare Centers, and Sub-Health Centers from 2015 to 2025. Health-related quality of life and perceived need for mental health services in adolescent solid organ transplant recipients.

The purpose of the current investigation was to assess interest in mental health services among parents of adolescent solid organ transplant recipients and the relationship between parent perceived need for mental health services and patient health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Sixty-three parents rated interest in receiving 10 mental health services, and patient HRQOL ratings were gathered from adolescent transplant recipients and their parents. Ninety-four percent of parents expressed some level of interest in at least one of the proposed services, with over 40 % indicating maximum intere

Receipt of school health education and school health service among adolescent immigrants in Massachusetts.

This study assessed whether immigrant adolescents receive health education and services in schools at levels comparable to native-born peers. Surveys from 2,635 8th and 10th graders allowed comparisons between students living in the United States "always" (n = 2,080), "more than six years" (n = 299), and "six years or less" (n = 191). Immigrant students were equally likely to receive health education, more likely to use peer counseling or support groups (p < .001), and less likely to use health services (p < .05). They communicated more often with staff (p < .05), were more concerned about men

Cognitive analytic therapy in child and adolescent mental health services: systematic scoping review of evidence.

AIMS AND METHOD: Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) is a relational, time-limited psychotherapy primarily evidenced to support adults with emotional and relational difficulties. The extent of evidence for CAT in younger populations is not known. This paper aimed to collate all published articles describing CAT with under-18-year-olds and establish feasibility and effectiveness of CAT in this population. An initial systematic search was conducted in MEDLINE, PsycINFO and CINAHL databases, with a second search using key terms and author names in the Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy websi

Enhancing referrals to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services: the EN-CAMHS mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: National Health Service Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services are specialist teams that assess and treat children and young people with mental health problems. Overall, 497,502 children were referred to National Health Service Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services between 2020 and 2021, and almost one-quarter of these referrals were not successful. Unsuccessful referrals are often distressing for children and families who are turned away usually after a long waiting period and without necessarily being redirected to alternative services. The process is also costly to se

Frequency and types of emotional dysregulation in referrals to child and adolescent mental health services.

INTRODUCTION: Emotional dysregulation (ED) is a transdiagnostic phenomenon that has received increased attention, because of its potential ability to explain the development and maintenance of various psychiatric disorders. The identification of ED may serve as a potential target for both preventive and treatment interventions, however, the frequency of transdiagnostic ED among children and adolescents has not previously been evaluated. Our aim was to evaluate the frequency and types of ED in accepted and rejected referrals to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Center (CAMHC), Mental Healt
