Screening and characterization of biocontrol bacteria isolated from Ageratum conyzoides against Collectotrichum fructicola causing Chinese plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.) anthracnose.

Chinese plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.) is a nutritionally and economically important stone fruit widely grown around the world. Anthracnose, caused by Collectotrichum spp., is one of the primary biotic stress factors limiting plum production. Medicinal plants may harbor rhizospheric or endophytic microorganisms that produce bioactive metabolites that can be used as anthracnose biocontrol agents. Here, 27 bacterial isolates from the medicinal plant A. conyzoides with diverse antagonistic activities against C. fructicola were screened. Based on morphological, physiological, biochemical, and molec

Community perceptions and practices on hepatic veno-occlusive disease in Tigray, Ethiopia: An explorative study challenging the attribution to Ageratum conyzoides.

BACKGROUND: Hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD) is a rare but severe condition characterized by the blockage of microscopic veins in the liver due to endothelial damage, leading to sub-endothelial thickening, edema, and fibrosis. Globally the cause of HVOD is primarily associated with pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) ingestion, radiation therapy, and post-transplant reactions. Similarly, in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, the disease's outbreak has been linked with contaminated harvests containing PA-producing seed called "Ageratum conyzoides". However, the perception and current experience of com

Ageratum houstonianum Extract and Agerarin Promote Hair Growth via MAPK/AP-1 Axis-Dependent Upregulation of SCUBE3 in Human Dermal Papilla Cells.

Dermal papilla (DP) cells orchestrate hair follicle growth and cycling by secreting signaling molecules that stimulate follicular epithelial stem cells. The signal peptide CUB-EGF-like domain-containing protein 3 (SCUBE3) was recently identified as a potent anagen stimulator secreted by DP cells. Ageratum houstonianum ethanolic extract (AHE) and its active constituent agerarin exhibit anti-inflammatory properties; however, their effects on hair follicle growth remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of AHE and agerarin on SCUBE3 expression in primary human DP cells and to e

An enzoinformatics study targeting polo-like kinases-1 enzyme: Comparative assessment of anticancer potential of compounds isolated from leaves of Ageratum houstonianum.

Natural products from plant sources, embracing inherently ample structural diversity than synthetic ones are the major sources of anticancer agents and will constantly play as protagonists for discovering new drugs. Polo-like kinases (PLKs) play a leading role in the ordered execution of mitotic events and 4 mammalian PLK family members have been identified. PLK1 is an attractive target for anticancer drugs in mammalian cells, among the four members of PLKs. The present study expresses the molecular interaction of compounds (1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid bis (2 ethylhexyl) ester, squalene, 3,5-
