Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor characterized by slow, asymptomatic growth and local aggressiveness. We report a case of a 24-year-old female with a gradually enlarging, painless swelling on the left side of her mandible over 3 years. Imaging revealed a 12 × 8 cm multilocular radiolucent lesion with cortical thinning and perforation, extending from the premolar to the angle of the mandibular ramus. Differential diagnoses included odontogenic keratocyst, dentigerous cyst, and other radiolucent mandibular lesions, and histopathological analysis confirmed a solid/multicystic ameloblas

Peripheral Ameloblastoma (PA) is a benign odontogenic tumor, arising from the cell rest of Serres, reduced enamel epithelium and basal cells of the surface epithelium. Peripheral ameloblastoma is a rare odontogenic neoplasm occurring commonly in the mandibular gingiva. PA clinically resembles other peripherally occurring lesions like pyogenic granuloma, peripheral ossifying fibroma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, and squamous papilloma. The recurrence rate of PA is 16-19% which demands a straight follow up. We report a case of recurrent peripheral ameloblastoma occurring in a 72-year old mal

INTRODUCTION: Giant ameloblastomas are more common in developing countries. They raise a serious problem of management. We present the case of one of the largest ameloblastoma ever reported.
CASE REPORT: A 48-year-old Congolese female patient was referred for mandibular swelling having begun 23 years before and now inducing severe functional disorders. A cephalic CT scan revealed a multicystic mass, 30×18×10cm in size, with a typical "soap bubble" presentation, and with thinned and inflated cortical bone. The treatment was sub-total segmental mandibulectomy with immediate reconstruction using

Desmoplastic ameloblastoma is a rare variant of ameloblastoma and only 54 cases have been previously reported in the English literature. We report ten cases of desmoplastic ameloblastoma of the jaw observed between 1972 and 1998 and discuss the pathogenesis of the tumor. Eight of the ten tumors were located in the anterior region of the jaw. Radiographically, six cases showed mixed radiolucent/radiopaque appearance with ill-defined margins and the other four cases lacked typical findings of ameloblastomas. The tumors were located mainly in the alveolar region and occupied the tooth-bearing are

The clinical presentation of ameloblastoma is illustrated by two contrasting cases; in one case the tumour was identified preoperatively while in the other it masqueraded as a dentigerous cyst. The authors stress the importance of making a positive diagnosis and the need for a thorough histologic examination of excised tissue because this tumour is potentially disfiguring and sometimes lethal if it is not adequately excised.

Ameloblastomas (AM) are locally aggressive tumors, with hemangiomatous ameloblastoma (HA) being a rare subtype characterized by vascular proliferation, predominantly in the stroma but occasionally within the epithelial component. We report a case of a 32-year-old male with recurrent mandibular swelling, histopathologically diagnosed as unicystic HA, showing vascularity in both stroma and odontogenic epithelial islands with GLUT1 positivity in the latter. A review of 31 cases revealed a male predilection, mandibular dominance (89.74 %), and overlap with conventional AM features. Vascularity in

Unicystic ameloblastoma (UA), a rare entity among ameloblastomas, is characterized as a tumor that typically occurs in a younger population. This case report aims to emphasize the significance of conducting histopathological examinations on all jawbone lesions, regardless of whether they appear clinically or radiologically insignificant. This study aims to present a case involving UA in a 12-year-old patient, shedding light on its management and follow-up, to assess the prognosis of surgical treatment. The 12-year-old male patient visited the outpatient department. With a complaint of swelling

Ameloblastoma is an uncommon and locally aggressive, benign, odontogenic tumor, with local recurrence when not adequately excised. A rare variant of this neoplasm with the benign features but accompanied with metastases has been described. This rare variant is malignant ameloblastoma and is known to have a poor prognosis. We present the case of a young woman who had recurrent mandibular tumors, which were resected twice and histologically reported as ameloblastoma. Four years later, she presented with pulmonary metastasis and atelectasis. A review of the literature on this very rare neoplasm w

Ameloblastoma is a slow-growing, persistent and locally aggressive neoplasm of epithelial origin accounting for 10% out of 30% of all odontogenic tumors. According to the World Health Organization, ameloblastomas are classified into the following types: conventional, unicystic, and peripheral. Unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) refers to those cystic lesions that show clinical, radiographic, or gross features of a mandibular cyst, but on histologic examination show a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining part of the cyst cavity, with or without luminal and/or mural tumor growth. We report a ca

Peripheral ameloblastoma is an uncommon pathological variant of the more usual intraosseous central ameloblastoma. It most typically presents as a localized soft tissue mass occurring in the tooth-bearing areas of the jaws and is often provisionally diagnosed as an epulis. In this paper, a 43-year-old male presented with a three-year history of a painful, slowly enlarging gingival swelling. There was no evidence of bony involvement on radiographs but it was revealed histologically to be a peripheral ameloblastoma. Treatment was by wide local excision, including a bony margin, and primary closu

Ameloblastomas, although often benign, are locally aggressive odontogenic lesions. Presentation of this lesion as a pericoronal radiolucency associated with an impacted tooth is well documented. Presentation of this lesion as a solitary periapical radiolucency associated with a non-impacted tooth however, is rare. Periapical presentation of this lesion may confuse practitioners.

Ameloblastomas are histologically benign tumors derived from the odontogenic apparatus. Although these tumors are locally invasive, they rarely invade the paranasal sinuses, orbits, or intracranial cavity, and, thus, they rarely produce ophthalmologic signs and symptoms. In this report, we describe the neuro-ophthalmologic features of three patients with chronically aggressive ameloblastoma. Two of the patients developed a progressive and recurrent orbital apex and cavernous sinus syndromes. One of these patients is, to our knowledge, the first patient described with orbital and cavernous simu

A peripheral (extraosseous) ameloblastoma was excised from the maxillary left tuberosity of an 82-year-old man. It recurred twice over a 5-year period, once as squamous cell carcinoma and again as undifferentiated carcinoma. Analysis of the literature suggests that peripheral ameloblastomas may have the same potential for malignant transformation as intraosseous ameloblastomas.

AIM: Diagnostic criteria that have been specified for unicystic ameloblastomas (UAs) are not always helpful to differentiate these cystic tumors from common odontogenic cysts. The aim of this study therefore was to identify additional histopathological features (other than the features considered for the diagnosis of UA at present) that would be helpful to differentiate UA from odontogenic cysts.
METHODS: One hundred histopathologically confirmed unicystic ameloblastomas and 20 cases each of radicular, inflamed dentigerous and non-inflamed dentigerous cysts were selected. Histopathological fe

INTRODUCTION: We report a case of peripheral extraosseous ameloblastoma in a female patient presenting with a soft-tissue growth on the lingual mandibular region, initially resembling a granulomatous lesion. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis. This rare tumor (1-5% of cases) must be considered in differential diagnosis of oral soft tissue swellings.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old female of Indian origin presented to our department with a complaint of growth in the left lingual aspect of the mandible. The growth is papillary in appearance with no evident radiogra

Purpose Radiolucent neoplasms can be identified on dental radiographs in asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals. Examples of these lesions include dentigerous cyst, radicular cyst, odontogenic keratocyst, and ameloblastoma. Many of these lesions require a histologic examination to render the definitive diagnosis. In terms of the ameloblastoma, there are four distinct types of this tumor. These include the conventional ameloblastoma, unicystic ameloblastoma (UA), extraosseous/peripheral ameloblastoma, and metastasizing ameloblastoma. The purpose of this report is to present a case report of a

BACKGROUND: Metastasizing ameloblastoma is a rare, distinct entity under the World Health Organization classification. It is a unique tumor in which metastasis can occur but remains benign. Incidence is considered to be around 2% of reported cases of ameloblastoma, but it could be much lower.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old South Indian woman of Dravidian ethnicity presented in the year 2020 with swelling over the right side of the face. She had a history of recurrent ameloblastoma on the left side of the mandible, for which she underwent multiple surgeries in the past 8 years. A right hemim

Ameloblastoma is a benign, locally aggressive neoplasm that constitutes about 1-3% of the tumors of the jaw. Wide surgical excision with adequate safe margin is the most common treatment of choice. The study aimed to manage cases with unicystic ameloblastoma while preserving the continuity of the mandible (without resection). This article presents a series of cases ranging from 18 to 40 years old patients of both sexes with unicystic ameloblastoma, especially in the mandible showing more male predilection than female. All the cases presented in this article were treated by enucleation and cure

Ameloblastoma is the second most common odontogenic tumor arising in the maxillary bones. The WHO classified ameloblastoma in: solid/multicystic (SMA); unicystic; peripheral and desmoplastic. A conservative or radical approach may be performed for SMA treatment to achieve total excision of the lesion. In this case report, a 47-year-old woman, presented a deformation of the left mandibular region and paresthesia of the left hemi-labium, at the ortopanoramic x-ray (OPT) a multilocular osteolytic lesion and the rhizalysis of dental elements 3.7, 3.6, 3.5, 3.4 and the inclusion of 3.8 was appreciat

Ultrasonography (US) is the diagnostic tool of choice for evaluating soft tissue lesions in the head and neck region. It is an economic, noninvasive, easily performed exam and provides real-time images, without the exposure to ionizing radiation, and contrast media is not required. It is usually believed that bone tissue constitutes an obstacle for its utilization, due to the reflection of sonographic waves. A case of mandibular intraosseous cystic pathology is reported, with utilization of US for evaluating the content of the lesion and planning the surgical procedure.
