Amomum tsao-ko is a medicinal spice whose organic acids determine flavor and bioactivity, yet systematic profiling is lacking. We performed metabolomics across three accessions and two processing states, network pharmacology on differential metabolites, and transcriptomics on fresh fruits of three accessions. Metabolomics resolved accession-specific and drying-responsive profiles. Network pharmacology identified core targets converging on steroid hormone biosynthesis and inflammatory pathways, and molecular docking prioritized three organic acids, including jasmonic acid, abscisic acid, and 1-

Amomum tsao-ko is an economically important spice plant in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). The dried ripe fruit has been widely used as spice and medicine in Southeast Asia due to its distinct flavor metabolites. However, there is little genomic information available to understand the biosynthesis of its characteristic flavor compounds. Here, we present a high-quality chromosome-level genome of A. tsao-ko with a total length of 2.08 Gb assembled into 24 chromosomes. Potential relationships between genetic variation and chemical constituents were analyzed by a genome-wide association study o

The fruits of Amomum maximum Roxb. (Zingiberaceae), traditionally used for gastrointestinal disorders, have been less phytochemically investigated compared to its rhizomes. In this study, four undescribed compounds (1-3,12) together with 15 known compounds were isolated from a 75% ethanol extract of A. maximum fruits, including eleven diarylheptanoids and eight labdane diterpenes. Their structures were unequivocally elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including NMR spectroscopy, computational NMR methods, and ECD. Compounds 1, 3-6, 10, and 11 significantly inhibited the release of NO, IL-6, a

Amomum tsaoko (AT) is commonly used in clinical practice to treat abdominal distension and pain. It is also a seasoning for cooking, with the functions of appetizing, invigorating the spleen, and being digestive-promoting. Amomum tsaoko (AT) has three adulterants, Amomum paratsaoko (AP), Amomum koenigii (AK), and Alpinia katsumadai Hayata, because of the confusion in historical classics regarding recorded sources as well as the near geographic distribution and fruit morphological similarities. In this study, we established a functional dyspepsia (FD) rat model and then treated it with the corr

A detailed understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing the flowering time of Amomum villosum Lour., a medicinal plant within the Zingiberaceae family, is currently lacking. In modern plants, the florigen activation complex (FAC), which includes PEBP, FD/bZIP, and GRF proteins, is known to regulate flowering. In this study, we identified 13 PEBP, 5 FD, and 19 GRF genes within the A. villosum genome and conducted phylogenetic, structural and promoter analysis. Notably, cross-species protein-protein interaction predictions and yeast two-hybrid assays uncovered an unexpected interaction pa

Amomum tsao-ko is a valuable medicinal and culinary resource, yet its non-volatile terpenoid composition remains poorly characterized. This study integrated widely targeted metabolomics and transcriptomics to systematically profile non-volatile terpenoids in A. tsao-ko fruits and investigate the impacts of fruit morphotype and drying process. Using UPLC-MS/MS, 157 non-volatile terpenoids were identified, with 147 common across all samples, indicating a stable core metabolome. Fruit shape significantly influenced terpenoid accumulation, with round fruits generally exhibiting higher levels, and

Although natural polysaccharides often have growth-promoting effects on animals, little is known about how polysaccharides act when they are administered as feed additives. This work shows that Amomum longiligulare polysaccharide 1 (ALP1) improves the growth performance of piglets by promoting the proliferation of jejunal epithelial cells. ALP1 improves the growth performance of piglets, increasing the average daily gain by 32.71 % and reducing the feed-to-gain (F/G) ratio by 21.93 %. The gut microbiota is an important regulatory target of polysaccharides. The results of jejunal microbiota tra
