Cerebral angiofibroma: case report.

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: Intracranial fibromatous tumors are very rare lesions, with few reported cases. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 34-year-old male patient who experienced seizures resulting from a cystic lesion in the left occipital region, which remained unchanged for 11 years. After the seizures increased in number, magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large cyst with a tumor nodule. INTERVENTION: A left occipital craniotomy was performed, and the tumor was removed. Pathological studies, including immunohistochemical and ultrastructural analyses, indicated that this

Imaging and management of angiofibroma.

Five cases of juvenile angiofibroma are reported. The nose and nasopharynx were involved in four cases and the nose and right maxillary sinus in one. Presenting symptoms were epistaxis and nasal blockage while two patients also had dacryocystitis and secretory otitis media. All patients had CT scans done and magnetic resonance imaging was required for two patients. Angiography with embolization of both internal maxillary arteries was performed in all patients. Biopsies were taken in three patients but no blood transfusion was needed. Tumor resection were then done, using a transpalatal approac

Cellular Angiofibroma of the Prostate.

INTRODUCTION: Cellular angiofibroma is a rare, benign mesenchymal tumor that affects middle-aged adults. It most frequently arises in the vulvovaginal or inguinoscrotal region. It is characterized by a slow clinical progression with no known potential for recurrence or metastasis. CASE PRESENTATION: In this case, we report a 78-year-old man presenting with obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms. Transrectal ultrasonography revealed a prostate volume of approximately 150 cc. The patient underwent an open retropubic prostatectomy (Hryntschak) to relieve symptoms. Histopathological evaluation

Sinonasal angiofibroma in a horse.

A 34-year-old Haflinger gelding presented with a unilateral, expansile, intranasal mass that regrew after partial excision. After euthanasia, a large pedunculated mass that originated from the left caudal maxillary sinus and obliterated the left nasal cavity was seen by radiological and macroscopic examination. Histopathology revealed a poorly cellular, expansile, well-vascularized neoplasm composed of a loosely arranged meshwork of spindle cells and collagen fibres. Spindle cells were immunopositive for alpha-smooth muscle actin and occasionally for vimentin, whereas endothelial cells immunol

Cellular angiofibroma of the orbit.

Cellular angiofibroma is a benign mesenchymal tumor most commonly located in the distal genital tract of both men and women. Although extragenital locations have been reported rarely, this is the first report of cellular angiofibroma of the orbit. A 58-year-old man presented with a mass in the left superomedial orbit since 2 years. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a well-demarcated lesion with a homogeneous intermediate signal intensity on both T1- and T2-weighted images, homogeneous contrast enhancement and high signal intensity on diffusion-weighted images. Complete excision was performed t

Cellular Angiofibroma of the Nasopharynx.

Angiofibroma is a common tumor of the nasopharynx region but cellular type is extremely rare in head and neck. A 13-year-old boy presented with frequent epistaxis and nasal obstruction persisting for 6 months. According to the clinical symptoms and imaging studies juvenile angiofibroma was suspected. Following angiographic embolization total excision of the lesion by midfacial degloving approach was performed. Histological examination revealed that the tumor consisted of staghorn blood vessels and irregular fibrous stroma. Stellate fibroblasts with small pyknotic to large vesicular nuclei were

Angiofibroma of the nasal septum.

Angiofibromas originate predominantly in the nasopharynx. Extranasopharyngeal sites such as the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity are less frequent. Angiofibroma of the nasal septum is extremely rare and the site of origin is either anterior, at the bony cartilaginous junction or posterior. Clinically, patients present with recurrent epistaxis and nasal obstruction secondary to a fleshy or polypoidal nasal mass. Computerized tomography of the nasal cavity and bilateral carotid angiography are useful in the pre-operative work-up. The main stay of treatment is surgical resection. A rare case of

Cellular angiofibroma of the vulva.

BACKGROUND: The cellular angiofibroma is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm that clinically and histologically must be distinguished from biologically more aggressive lesions. It typically arises in women of late reproductive age and lends itself to cure by complete local excision. A report of an unusual case in a postmenopausal patient is presented. CASE: A 77-year-old woman presented with a painless vulvar mass that slowly enlarged over 3 years. Past history included a hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy followed by estrogen replacement therapy. Surgical excision of the mass was per

[Nasal angiofibroma in an adult].

We have studied a nasal Angiofibroma in a 71-years-old male, who had not undergone any male-hormonal-therapy. The age of occurrence and the clinical course of this case made the tumor very unlikely to be a silent puberal nasal angiofibroma. After morphologic exam and exclusion of other bleeding entities of the nasal cavity we arrived at the diagnosis of nasal angiofibroma. We believe that this tumor might be arisen "ex novo" and that the nasal angiofibroma of elderly people might be a new entity.

Parapharyngeal Angiofibroma: A Case Report.

Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a relatively uncommon vascular tumor affecting adolescent males and it characteristically originates in the posterior lateral wall of the nasopharynx. Primary extra-nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is very rare. Here, I present a case of angiofibroma of the parapharyngeal space in a 53-year-old woman with CT and sonographic findings.

A giant juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas are locally growing and highly vascular tumors. They are primarily treated through surgical excision ranging from an open approach to an endoscopic approach. We presented a 20-year-old man with a giant juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma that bilaterally obliterated the pterygopalatine fossa, invaded the sphenoid bone, and extended to the left nasal passage. His complaints were epistaxis and nasal obstruction. After embolization, the patient was treated surgically using the endoscopic approach and declared cured and discharged without any complications.

Juvenile angiofibroma and its management.

This prospective longitudinal study was done to determine extent of tumor and to highlight the importance of lateral rhinotomy approach for nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. Patients with a diagnosis of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma who underwent surgery in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, Kathmandu from April, 2004 to Jan 2009 were included in the study. Extent of tumour and surgical approaches were noted in a special form prepared for the study. Fisch Staging system was followed for the extent of tumor. A total number of patients were 23 and all of them were male. Age ranged fro

[Treatment modalities of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma].

Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a rare, benign vascular tumor originating from the sphenopalatine foramen. It primarily affects adolescent males. Due to its propensity to locally destructive growth, the tumor may lead to fatal epistaxis, intracranial extension, and life-threatening complications such as intraoperative hemorrhage. Many treatment modalities have been used for the management of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, but surgery and external beam radiation therapy have proved to be the only effective treatment modalities with acceptable morbidity. While endoscopic surgery provides successful

Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma: a case study.

Juvenile angiofibromas, most commonly found in adolescent males, are vascular lesions that occur in the nasopharynx and extend into other areas of the skull. Presenting signs and symptoms include epistaxis, nasal obstruction and nasal drainage. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are the primary diagnostic tests. Angiography is used for vascular mapping and preoperative embolization. Total surgical resection is the goal of treatment. Nursing care includes developmental considerations with a focus on comfort, neurological assessment and patient and family education.

Bulky Recurrent Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a rare and highly vascularized tumor that accounts for 0.05 to 0.5% of all head and neck neoplasms. The aim of this work was to present a case of a large recurrent juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma coexisting with a facial lipoma in a 16-year-old boy. The patient was referred to our institution because of frequent unilateral epistaxis. Computed tomography revealed a hypervascular tumor with ethmoidal cell destruction and spread to the nasopharynx. Operative treatment of nasal cavity tumors was carried out using a transpalatal approach. After 6 months,
