[Psychological care for combatants psychotraumatized by armed conflict].

The treatment of psychotrauma is based on two main aspects, pharmacological and psychotherapeutic, in accordance with national and international recommendations on psychotherapy, which recommend the use of different techniques, depending on the time frame of the psychotraumatic event or events. The principles of psychological support are based on three phases: immediate, post-medical and long-term. Therapeutic patient education brings added value to the psychological care of psychotraumatized people.

The Impact of Armed Conflicts on the Prevalence, Transmission, and Management of Infectious Diseases: A Systematic Review.

Armed conflicts persist despite global peace efforts, driven by cultural, religious, and ethnic divisions. These conflicts significantly impact public health by exacerbating the spread of infectious diseases and disrupting essential healthcare systems. This study aimed to assess the complex relationship between conflict and the prevalence, transmission, and management of infectious diseases in the affected populations. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to conduct a comprehensive search across five databases (EBSCO, Pu

Sleep as a Component of Health in Areas of Armed Conflict and Disaster.

Sleep is a vital physiological and psychological process essential for overall health and well-being, yet it is often severely disrupted in areas affected by armed conflict and disasters. In these environments, civilians frequently become internally displaced or refugees, experiencing fragmented or reduced sleep due to factors such as constant noise from drones and airstrikes, overcrowded shelters, and pervasive fear for personal safety. These sleep disturbances, including but not limited to insomnia and nightmares, are not merely secondary effects of a conflict or disaster but can also exacer

[Poliomyelitis eradication in areas with armed conflict: the case of Afghanistan].

The aim of this study was to describe fieldwork to erradicate poliomyelitis from Afghanistan and particularly from the Mazar Region. From 1997-1999, 365 cases of acute flaccid paralysis were detected. Of these, 216 cases (59.2%) were classified as poliomyelitis. The rate of acute flaccid paralysis improved from 0.1 in 1997 to 0.8 in 1999. Fieldwork in the Mazar region revealed under-notification and the need to improve surveillance methods. However, massive use of the services of traditional healers and extreme transport difficulties reduced the efficacy of the interventions. The case of Afgha

Antimicrobial resistance surveillance and trends in armed conflict, fragile, and non-conflict countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

BACKGROUND: The WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) faces major social, economic, and demographic challenges, with nearly half of its countries affected by conflicts that severely disrupt health systems. This study compared antimicrobial resistance (AMR) rates and surveillance efforts in conflict-affected, fragile, and non-conflict countries, further subdivided by income. METHODS: Data on bacteriologically confirmed bloodstream infections (BC-BSIs) from 2017 to 2021 were extracted from the WHO GLASS database. Countries were classified as conflict-affected, fragile, or non-conflict (subdivi

Global and regional climate modes modulate armed conflict risk.

Because of their impacts on droughts, famines, and floods, modes of climate variability can shape patterns of social instability. Yet the mechanisms linking climate variability to armed conflict remain contested, especially relative to the myriad sociopolitical and economic determinants of conflict. A key challenge is that most studies rely on coarse, state-level data and treat climatic teleconnections as invariant. As such, it is unknown whether there are distinct climate hazards that select for conflict risk; whether conflict scales with climate hazard exposure; and whether such associations

Mental health outcomes in communities exposed to Armed Conflict Experiences.

BACKGROUND: Populations exposed to Armed Conflict Experiences (ACE) show different levels of impact in their mental health (i.e. clinical and positive components); however, there is limited evidence related to mental health of general population (civilians not classified as victims) exposed to ACE. Government guided mental health assessments exclude this population. The use of a newly validated Extreme Experiences Scale (EX2) seems appropriate to classify victims, ex-combatants, and civilians for their mental health assessment. METHODS: Here, we propose a novel approach to identify relationsh
