BackgroundResidential care facilities (RCFs) have become central sites of institutional dying in aging societies, yet the psychological preparedness of RCF professionals remains insufficiently examined. Death attitudes represent a critical workforce variable with implications for care quality and organizational sustainability.MethodsA cross-sectional study included 623 professionals working in Portuguese RCFs. Participants completed the Death Attitude Profile-Revised and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed the five-factor structure, and nonparametric tests e

INTRODUCTION: Pharmacy graduates should be equipped for one inevitable aspect of health care, mortality, yet only 10% of United States pharmacy curricula courses cover end-of-life (EoL) with limited evidence of effectiveness. This study's objective was to evaluate the impact of an EoL elective on student pharmacists' empathy and attitudes toward mortality and caring for terminally ill persons.
METHODS: First- through third-year student pharmacists enrolled in an EoL elective. Students completed pre- and post-course surveys on self-perceptions of empathy and mortality. Surveys included the fol

To investigate firefighters' multidimensional attitude toward death and psychological distress, 60 firefighters completed the Death Attitude Profile-Revised and the General Health Questionnaire-28. As predicted, fear of death and escape acceptance were positively related to severe depression and anxiety/insomnia. However, contrary to predictions, neutral acceptance and death avoidance were not associated with psychological distress. Our results indicate that it would be advisable to examine the effectiveness of preventive and therapeutic interventions for firefighters aimed at reducing the fea

The present study investigated whether gender differences in death attitudes could be attributable to social desirability, locus of control, and disgust sensitivity. A total of 238 university students completed the Multidimensional Fear of Death Scale and the Revised Death Attitude Profile in addition to measures of social desirability, locus of control, and disgust sensitivity. Women scored higher than men on many of the fear dimensions and also on approach and escape acceptance. There were no gender differences on locus of control or social desirability, but women reported more disgust sensi

Chinese parents' death attitudes influence how they guide children in understanding death, coping with loss and managing grief. This study identified Chinese parents' death attitude latent profiles, explored influencing factors, and examined the links to beliefs about child death and dying. This cross-sectional online survey, conducted in Beijing from October to December 2024, recruited 507 parents via convenience sampling to explore these attitudes and their correlates. Three latent profiles were identified: Natural Acceptance Predominant Group (28.4%), Open and Inclusive Acceptance Group (13

BACKGROUND: Although most anesthesiologists will have 1 catastrophic perioperative event or more during their careers, there has been little research on their attitudes to assistive strategies after the event. There are wide-ranging emotional consequences for anesthesiologists involved in an unexpected intraoperative patient death, particularly if the anesthesiologist made an error. We used a between-groups survey study design to ask whether there are different attitudes to assistive strategies when a hypothetical patient death is caused by a drug error versus not caused by an error. First, we

Starting with the relevance of the Spanish experience, this study analyses the population's disposition towards organ donation after death by means of a representative survey of the adult Spanish population (N = 1206, estimated error ±2.87%, P < 0.05). Of the participants, 8.1% were declared donors, 59.3% were likely to donate, 14.5% were against donating and 18.1% did not know or did not respond; 87.3% would donate relative's organs if the deceased favoured donation, 50.2% if the deceased's wishes were unknown and 13.1% even if the deceased opposed donation. Among people who were favourable t

This study examined correlates of seeking help from clergymen in the event of the death of a close friend or relative. Demographic factors and attitudes toward seeking pastoral help in the event of the death of a close friend or relative were examined in 116 subjects. Half the subjects were undergraduates and half were from local congregations. Age, sex, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, marital status, and intensity of religious belief were related to favorableness of help-seeking attitudes. Findings concerning sex of the subject were consistent with those in more general studies o

Living farewells-ritualized pre-death gatherings enabling life review and relational closure-represent an emerging psychosocial practice in Asian palliative care, yet empirical evidence remains absent. This exploratory cross-sectional study (N = 165 Taiwanese adults) developed and validated a 25-item instrument assessing attitudes toward living farewells through exploratory factor analysis, identifying four dimensions: Positive Perceptions, Potential Concerns, Legal & Economic Considerations, and Leisure & Ritual Acceptance. Multiple regression revealed that positive perceptions of dignity and

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: There are multiple variables that influence fear of death, as well as attitudes towards it, including age, religiosity, emotional and cultural aspects. Due to the proximity to death, the study of attitudes and death-related anxiety and the variables that influence it in the elderly population is of great relevance. The aim of the present study was to compare the levels of death anxiety, fear of death, attitudes towards death and associated emotional aspects (anxiety and depression) in older adults from 2different cultures, Western and Arab.

Resilience may be related to mental health and profound beliefs and attitudes. Utilizing a survey design, we examined relationships among resilience, clinical syndromes, death attitudes, and religion. Mexican university students (N = 161) answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Global Post-Traumatic Stress Scale, the Millon Multiaxial Inventory, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Death Attitudes Profile. Pearson correlation analyses showed that resilience correlated inversely with clinical syndromes and fear of death and positively with approach acceptance. Religion entailed
