Biflavonoids and glucopyranoside derivatives from Ouratea polygyna (Ochnaceae) and their inhibition of the SARS-CoV-2 3CLPro main protease.

Ouratea polygyna is a plant endemic to Brazil whose phytochemical and/or biological properties have not yet been studied. Studies point to flavonoids and phenols as inhibitors of the proliferation of coronaviruses. Therefore, we proceeded to the identification of compounds present in the extracts of this plant and evaluated their potential for viral inhibition on SARS-CoV-2 3CLPro. The results showed that the bioflavonoids fractions with amentoflavone and robustaflavone inhibited the viral protease at the levels of a synthetic inhibitor at all concentrations evaluated (10, 25 and 50 µM). Beyond Essential Oils: Diterpenes, Lignans, and Biflavonoids from Juniperus communis L. as a Source of Multi-Target Lead Compounds.

Common Juniper (Juniperus communis L.) is a gymnosperm that stands out through its fleshy, spherical female cones, often termed simply "berries". The cone berries and various vegetative parts (leaves, twigs and even roots) are used in traditional phytotherapy, based on the beneficial effects exerted by a variety of secondary metabolites. While the volatile compounds of Juniperus communis are known for their aromatic properties and have been well-researched for their antimicrobial effects, this review shifts focus to non-volatile secondary metabolites-specifically diterpenes, lignans, and bifla

Naturally occurring C-C and C-O-C-linked biflavonoids as potential inhibitors of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro).

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) main protease (Mpro) is indispensable for viral replication and remains a validated antiviral drug target. Naturally occurring biflavonoids, particularly those with C-C and C-O-C interflavonoid linkages, have gained attention due to their structural diversity and reported antiviral potential. In this study, an integrated in silico approach was employed to investigate the inhibitory potential of representative biflavonoids against SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. A curated library of C-C- and C-O-C-linked biflavonoids was initially screened using

Ochnaflavone, naturally occurring biflavonoid, inhibits phospholipase A2 dependent phosphatidylethanolamine degradation in a CCl4-induced rat liver microsome.

This study investigated the protective effects of a group IIA secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2-IIA) inhibitor, ochnaflavone, on the progression of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute liver injury in rat liver microsomes in vitro. When rat liver was incubated at 37 degrees C in the presence of CCl4, the level of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) degradation increased markedly compared with the control. The rat 14 kDa platelet PLA2 antibody, R377, suppressed the degradation of PE. Pretreating the microsome with ochnaflavone (2-16 microM) reduced the level of PE degradation in a dose dependent

Cardiotoxic effects of Bisphenol-A in male Wistar rats are attenuated by Garcinia kola and its biflavonoid, kolaviron, via antioxidant and antiinflammation-based mechanisms.

INTRODUCTION: The heart, due to its high energetic metabolic and reactive oxygen production rate, is a target for oxidative stress-related injuries. Therefore, environmental toxicants such as Bisphenol-A (BPA), that exert pathologies through oxidative and nitrite stress-related mechanism may target the heart for their deleterious effects. This study was therefore designed to investigate the effect of two naturally occurring antioxidants, Garcinia kola (GK) and kolaviron, on BPA-induced cardiac dysfunction and toxicity in male Wistar rats. METHODS: Fifty-six animals were divided into 7equal gr

A biflavonoid-rich extract from Selaginella moellendorffii Hieron. induces apoptosis via STAT3 and Akt/NF-κB signalling pathways in laryngeal carcinoma.

Selaginella moellendorffii Hieron. (SM), a perennial evergreen plant, has been used in the treatment of acute infectious hepatitis, thoracic and hypochondriac lumbar contusions, systemic oedema and thrombocytopaenia. However, the role of a biflavonoid-rich extract from SM (SM-BFRE) in anti-larynx cancer has rarely been reported. In this study, the in vitro and in vivo anti-laryngeal cancer activity and potential mechanisms of SM-BFRE were investigated. An off-line semipreparative liquid chromatography-nuclear magnetic resonance protocol was carried out to determine six biflavonoids from SM-BFR

Screening of promising chemotherapeutic candidates from plants against human adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (IX): active principles from Juniperus rigida.

During the screening of novel chemotherapeutic candidates from plants against adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATL), we found that extracts of plants in the Solanaceae, Annonaceae, Apocynaceae, and Rutaceae families showed anti-proliferative activity in the MT-1 and MT-2 cell lines. We have isolated active compounds from these plants in the present research because Cupressaceae plants showed potent anti-proliferative activity in the cell lines. We attempted to isolate the active compounds from the leaves of Juniperus rigida. Using activity-guided fractionation, we isolated 22 compounds, includ
