The purpose of this study is to report on a patient who developed conjunctival lesions of blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) after radiation to skin lesions of the same pathological type. A 79-year-old man developed salmon-pink lesions in the lower fornix of the conjunctiva of both eyes and biopsy revealed BPDCN. One and a half years previously, he noticed an erythematous plaque with a 30-mm diameter, which later became multiple, on the left chest, and the biopsy revealed BPDCN. The bone marrow was negative for CD56-positive cells, but fluorescence-activated cell sorting anal

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematologic neoplasm (less than 1% of primary cutaneous lymphomas and acute leukemia) with a highly aggressive clinical course and frequent skin, bone marrow and central nervous system involvement. Even though there is often an early response to chemotherapy, leukemic dissemination relapses are very common and result in poor outcomes, with a median overall survival of 8 to 14 months in the first-line setting using standard combination chemotherapy regimens. Almost 90% of patients experience skin involvement as their initial site of

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of patients with blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm(BPDCN).
METHODS: Clinical data of 5 patients diagnosed with BPDCN in Wuhan First Hospital and Wuhan Tongji Hospital from June 2016 to November 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: Among the 5 patients, 3 were male and 2 were female, with a median age of 28(10-52) years old. Four patients showed obvious skin damage at the initial diagnosis; the other one showed clinical manifestations of acute leukemia rather than obvious skin damage at the initial

A 72-year-old man with a history of squamous cell carcinoma presented to the Portland VA with forehead discoloration. He was initially diagnosed with actinic damage and prescribed topical treatment. However, he returned to clinic months later with a large, violaceous forehead plaque. Upon biopsy, he was diagnosed with blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), a rare hematological malignancy. This case report illustrates the importance of keeping BPDCN in the differential diagnosis for ecchymotic plaques that fail to respond to first line therapy.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a malignancy with high frequency of skin involvement. A 39-year-old Caucasian female was suffering from weakness, myalgia, and skin eruption, which appeared during treatment of chlamydiosis with antibiotics in July 2016. Based on clinical presentation, laboratory investigations, and histological examination of skin and bone marrow biopsy, a diagnosis of BPDCN with the involvement of skin, bone marrow, and central nervous system was made. The patient was put on acute lymphoblastic leukemia-like chemotherapy and achieved complete remission

INTRODUCTION: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and aggressive myeloid malignancy that contributes to <1% of all hematologic neoplasms. Before the introduction of various targeted agents, the therapeutic approach was based on regimens used for acute lymphoblastic or myeloid leukemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (e.g. hyperCVAD (hyperfractionated cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin and dexamethasone alternating with high dose methotrexate and cytarabine) and CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone) -based regimens) followed by allogeneic st

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), currently considered to originate from immature plasmacytoid dendritic cells (DC), is a rare and aggressive CD4+CD56+ neoplasm that frequently involves the skin and bone marrow. We present a case of an 80-year-old man with a CD4+CD56+ BPDCN that affected the orbital cavity and bone marrow. Although BPDCN has not been reported to express any lineage-specific markers, the neoplastic cells strongly expressed the CD13 antigen. Therefore, in addition to pathological examination, we attempted to induce in vitro morphological and surface marker ch

BPDCN is an uncommon haematological malignancy recognised as a distinct entity by the WHO in 2016. It typically presents with skin lesions and involves bone marrow, lymph nodes, and CNS, affecting all age groups. The disease poses significant diagnostic challenges, with limited data on optimal treatment strategies, further contributing to its dismal prognosis. Standard regimens include ALL-like or AML-like therapies, particularly in older adults. We outline our experiences managing three consecutive BPDCN patients, emphasising the unique challenges oncologists face when treating this malignanc

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare aggressive hematologic malignancy characterized by frequent skin involvement that most commonly affects older patients. BPDCN is known to have a poor prognosis. Our objective was to assess if outcome and disease prognosis were independently influenced by age when evaluated with clinical presentation, sex, and treatment regimens. We conducted a systematic review to identify BPDCN cases, to compare pediatric BPDCN cases with adult cases. A total of 125 publications were identified detailing 356 cases. Including 1 pediatric case from

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and aggressive hematologic malignancy typically involving the skin, bone marrow, and central nervous system. Ocular adnexal involvement is exceedingly rare. We present a novel case of a 74-year-old man with BPDCN in remission following autologous stem cell transplantation who developed sequential ocular adnexal recurrences. He initially presented with a protuberant lesion of the right caruncle, followed by new lesions of the left lacrimal gland and right subconjunctival space. Histopathologic analysis confirmed BPDCN recurrence. No

INTRODUCTION: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is an ultra-rare disease that arises from malignant precursor dendritic cells. Historically, there was no uniform standard-of-care chemotherapy. In this setting, outcomes were substandard, especially for patients not eligible for intensive chemotherapy, clinical trials, and/or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, which constituted the majority of patients. The development of targeted therapy, namely the anti-CD123 agent tagraxofusp, marked the beginning of a new era in the treatment of BPDCN.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor with an unknown pathogenesis. Myelofibrosis (MF) is a type of myeloproliferative neoplasm. MF can be secondary to several hematological malignancies, including chronic myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome and hairy cell leukemia. In the present report, a rare case of BPDCN secondary to MF is described. A 70-year-old male patient developed a large purplish-red rash with recurrent symptoms. BPDCN was confirmed by immunohistochemistry of a biopsy specimen and flow cytometry of bone marrow cells. B

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is an exceedingly rare and aggressive hematologic malignancy. In the current World Health Organization classification, it is classified among histiocytic/dendritic cell neoplasms. This report describes the case of an 85-year-old female with a complex medical history, including rheumatoid arthritis, who presented with a one-month history of low-grade fever, anorexia, and unexplained weight loss. The diagnosis of BPDCN was confirmed following an immunophenotyping analysis of a bone marrow aspirate. With this report, the authors intend to shed

Spontaneous remissions (SRs) in blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms (BPDCNs) are infrequent, poorly documented, and transient. We report a 40-year-old man presenting with bycitopenia and soft tissue infection. The bone marrow exhibited 3% abnormal cells. Immunophenotyping of these cells revealed the antigens CD45+ (dim), CD34+, CD117+, CD123+ (bright), HLA-DR+ (bimodal), CD56+ (bright), CD33+, CD13+, CD2+, and CD22+ (dim) and the partial expression of the CD10+, CD36+, and CD7+ antigens. All other myeloid, monocytic, and lymphoid antigens were negative. Genetic studies showed a compl

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is aggressive hematologic malignancy derived from plasmacytoid dendritic cell precursors of myeloid cell lineage. Patients frequently present with bruise-like skin lesions, which typically are followed months later by progressive cytopenias. Historically, BPDCN prognosis has been dismal, with median overall survival ranging from 9 to 13 months. In the past 2 decades, our understanding of BPDCN pathogenesis has led to the successful development of novel therapeutics. In December 2018, the FDA approved tagraxofusp-erzs for adults and pediatric

BACKGROUND: The present case contributes to the limited literature on central nervous system involvement of blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN). CASE PRESENTATION : A 63-year-old male presented to the department of neurology with a three-day history of rapidly progressing headache, fatigue, and confusion. Physical examination revealed multiple bruise-like skin lesions. Initial laboratory workup raised suspicion of acute leukemia, and a brain computer tomography identified several hyperdense processes. A bone marrow biopsy gave the diagnosis BPDCN, a rare and aggressive hemato
