The Removal of Formaldehyde from Urea Formaldehyde Adhesive by Sodium Borohydride Treatment and Its Application in Plywood.

The global production of plywood is constantly increasing as its application in the furniture and interior decoration industry becomes more widespread. An urgent issue is how to decrease the formaldehyde released from plywood, considering its carcinogenic effect on humans and harm to the environment. Reducing the free formaldehyde content of the urea formaldehyde (UF) adhesives used in the preparation process is considered an effective method. Therefore, it is necessary to identify a new type of formaldehyde scavengers. Here, the strongly reducing substance sodium borohydride was used to reduc

Effect of precursor type on the reduction of concentrated nitrate using zero-valent copper and sodium borohydride.

In this study, we demonstrated that the choice of precursor has a strong effect on the reduction of nitrate (NO3-) using zero-valent copper (Cu0) synthesized by sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Different precursors: CuSO4, CuO, Cu2O, Cu powder, and Cu mesh were used to reduce NO3- at 677 mg-N/L under the reducing conditions of NaBH4. Compared with the prehydrolyzed samples, those prepared without prehydrolysis exhibited lower reduction rates, longer times and higher concentrations of nitrite (NO2-) intermediate. It was found that one-time addition of NaBH4 resulted in higher reduction rate and less

Multi-electron reduction of sulfur and carbon disulfide using binuclear uranium(iii) borohydride complexes.

The first use of a dinuclear UIII/UIII complex in the activation of small molecules is reported. The octadentate Schiff-base pyrrole, anthracene-hinged 'Pacman' ligand LA combines two strongly reducing UIII centres and three borohydride ligands in [M(THF)4][{U(BH4)}2(μ-BH4)(LA)(THF)2] 1-M, (M = Li, Na, K). The two borohydride ligands bound to uranium outside the macrocyclic cleft are readily substituted by aryloxide ligands, resulting in a single, weakly-bound, encapsulated endo group 1 metal borohydride bridging the two UIII centres in [{U(OAr)}2(μ-MBH4)(LA)(THF)2] 2-M (OAr = OC6H2t Bu3-2,4,6

Synergistic Anion-Solvent Engineering: Zinc Borohydride as a Multifunctional Additive for Non-Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries have been regarded as a promising energy storage system with cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability. However, conventional aqueous electrolytes suffer from issues of zinc dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution, and cathode dissolution, leading to low Coulombic efficiency and poor reversibility of the zinc anode. Non-aqueous electrolytes with thermodynamic stability can improve reversibility, but the application is limited by the scarcity of high-performance zinc salts and sluggish electrochemical kinetics. Thus, this work proposes a synergistic anion-solven

Sodium borohydride: repurposing from a reducing agent to a reductive cyclization reagent for N-(2-iodoaryl)acrylamides.

Herein, we report that NaBH4 facilitates an unusual reductive cyclization of N-(2-iodoaryl)acrylamide derivatives to afford oxindoles without the need for external initiators. While other hydride donors failed to achieve this transformation, NaBH4 enabled it with a broad scope. Control experiments and DFT studies support a unimolecular radical-nucleophilic substitution (SRN1) pathway.

Black-light-induced radical/ionic hydroxymethylation of alkyl iodides with atmospheric CO in the presence of tetrabutylammonium borohydride.

Tin-free radical/ionic hydroxymethylation of secondary and tertiary alkyl iodides proceeded efficiently in the presence of tetrabutylammonium borohydride as the hydrogen source under atmospheric pressure of CO in conjunction with photoirradiation using black light. Two possible mechanisms were proposed, both of which involve hybrid radical/ionic processes.

Advanced Nb-Based MOF-Supported Co/Pt Nanocatalyst for Sustainable Hydrogen Production from Sodium Borohydride.

Expanding renewable energy sources is essential for global decarbonization. Hydrogen (H2) is a clean energy carrier, but its storage remains challenging. Sodium borohydride (NaBH4) is attractive due to its high hydrogen content; however, its hydrolysis is kinetically slow and requires catalysts. In this study, a niobium-based Metal-Organic Framework, Nb-(PDC)-(BTC), where PDC is pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylate and BTC is benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate, was synthesized and used as a support for cobalt-platinum nanoparticles (Co-Pt NP) formed in situ. Borohydride Hydrolysis Using a Mechanically and Chemically Stable Aluminium-Stainless Steel Porous Monolith Catalyst Made by 3D Printing.

The challenge of moving to a carbon-free energy economy is highlighted in the context of technology and materials restrictions. Many technologies needed for the so-called energy transition depend on critical metals such as platinum, lithium, iridium and cobalt. Here we focus on solid borohydride salts as hydrogen carriers, studying catalysts for hydrogen release. We combine metal 3D printing technology and a Raney-type leaching process to make structured macroscopic catalyst/reactor monoliths of cobalt, aluminium and stainless steel with well-defined micropores. Remarkably, the blank catalyst

Performance and potential mechanism of Cr(VI) reduction and subsequent Cr(III) precipitation using sodium borohydride driven by oxalate.

The method of treating high concentrations of Cr(VI) alone by NaBH4 has proved feasible, but the effects of the coexistence of Cr(VI) and organic compounds have not been evaluated. The objective of this study was to explore the potential mechanism by which oxalate affects the reduction of high concentrations of Cr(VI) treated by sodium borohydride (NaBH4) and the subsequent precipitation of Cr(III). The results show that Cr(VI) reduction could be gradually promoted by oxalate (1.0-10 mM). Compared with the control solution, the reduction of Cr(VI) in a 10 mM oxalate solution could be increased

Controlling chemical interface damping by removing aromatic monothiol and dithiol groups from gold nanorods using sodium borohydride solution.

Chemical interface damping (CID) in gold nanorods (AuNRs) significantly influences their optical properties due to the direct transfer of hot electrons from the AuNRs to adsorbed molecules. Despite ongoing research on CID, reversible tuning of CID at the single particle level remains a challenging task. In this study, we investigated the adsorption and removal of thiol-functionalized aromatic molecules, specifically thiophenol (TP) and benzene-1,2-dithiol (BDT), using sodium borohydride (NaBH4) solution as a reagent, with confirmation through surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) measuremen

Superior hydrogen production during sodium borohydride methanolysis using monodisperse copper nanoparticles grafted on the peptidoglycan layer of Bacillus atrophaeus bacteria.

Recently, "Bacillus atrophaeus", which has a cell wall structure consisting of peptidoglycan layers, has attracted the attention of researchers due to its different usage areas. In particular, research focuses on the technology of obtaining bio‑hydrogen with various techniques. This research involves, for the first time, the use of the Bacillus atrophaeus bacteria as a bio-supporting material for monodisperse copper nanoparticles (CuNPs@Bacillus atrophaeus) and the manufacture of hydrogen through catalytic NaBH4-methanolysis (SB-methanolysis) in the presence of the resulting nanoparticles. Dual Catalytic Activity of Pd-Dispersed MOF for Ammonia-Free Hydrogen Generation from Ammonia Borane and Sodium Borohydride in Aqueous and Methanol Solvents.

The development of effective catalysts for hydrogen (H2) generation from chemical hydrides is essential for advancing hydrogen-based energy technologies. Herein, we synthesized a Pd-dispersed CPO-27 catalyst exhibiting exceptional performance for hydrolysis of two boron-based chemical hydrides, i.e., ammonia borane (AB) and sodium borohydride (SB). The catalyst demonstrated activation energies of 22.7 and 18.12 kJ mol-1 for AB and SB hydrolysis respectively, confirming its proficient catalytic activity. To comprehensively understand the factors influencing the production of H2, we systematical

Reductive cleavage of Xaa-proline peptide bonds by mild alkaline borohydride treatment employed to release O-glycosidically linked carbohydrate units of glycoproteins.

During the deglycosylation reaction of fish egg polysialoglycoproteins under the conditions of 1 M NaBH4 in 0.1 M NaOH at 37 degrees C for 48 h, a marked loss of the glycine content has been encountered, besides the serine and threonine residues to which the carbohydrate units are linked. The chemical basis behind this phenomenon has been elucidated by amino acid analysis first of the major glycopeptides (carbohydrate-(O)Thr-Gly-Pro-Ser) derived from desialylated polysialoglycoproteins and subsequently six proline-containing peptides before and after treatment under similar conditions. It has

Boron-doped urea-polyethylene glycol-derived carbon nanotube mimics: Metal-free catalysts for enhanced hydrogen generation via sodium borohydride methanolysis.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) exhibit exceptional properties due to their unique tubular structure but face challenges like complex synthesis, aggregation, hydrophobicity, and environmental concerns during functionalization. This study demonstrates that combining urea, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and boric acid (H3BO3) under N2 pyrolysis can overcome these issues and yield CNTs-like carbon nanostructures with excellent functionality. Varying molecular weight of PEG, amounts of PEG and H3BO3, and pyrolysis temperature allowed us to control the morphology and B-doping amount of urea-boric acid-PEG (UBP2

Efficacy of Sodium Borohydride for Autofluorescence Reduction in Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded Common Quail (Coturnix coturnix) Lungs Under Different Antigen Retrieval Conditions.

Tissue autofluorescence (AF) is a major limitation to immunofluorescence (IF) staining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues. This study evaluated the AF reduction efficacy of sodium borohydride (NaBH₄) in FFPE quail (Coturnix coturnix) lung tissues processed under heat-induced epitope retrieval (HIER) or enzyme-induced antigen retrieval (EIAR) conditions. Following antigen retrieval (AR), lung sections were treated with 1 or 2 mg/mL NaBH₄ concentrations and compared with untreated controls. Autofluorescence was evaluated across green and red channels under identical imaging setti
