Sacraoxides I-Q (1-9), nine undescribed cembranoids were isolated from the gum resin of Boswellia sacra as well as two known analogues (10 and 11). Their structures were determined by the analysis of 1D/2D NMR and HRESIMS data, quantum chemical calculations, modified Mosher's method, and a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. Compounds 1 and 2 possess an unprecedented 15,16-dioxatricyclo[7.5.1.12,5]hexadecane polyether skeleton. Compound 3 has been identified as the first instance of nor-cembranoid bearing a 13-oxabicyclo[8.2.1]tridecane skeleton. Meanwhile, compounds 4 and 5 have been char

Natural antimicrobials have recently gained increasing interest over synthetic antimicrobials to overcome foodborne pathogens and food microbial contamination. Essential oils (EOs) obtained from Boswellia sacra resins (BO) were utilized for respiratory disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, malignant tumors, and viral infections. Like other EOs, the therapeutic potential of BO is hindered by its low solubility and bioavailability, poor stability, and high volatility. Several studies have shown excellent physicochemical properties and outstanding therapeutic capabilities of EOs encapsulated into vari

Herbal medicines are increasingly recognized as alternative therapies for anxiety. Boswellia species are traditionally used in East Africa to manage central nervous system disorders. In the present study, Boswellia carterii, its major compound α-pinene, and the enantiomers (-)-α-pinene and (+)-α-pinene were investigated for potential anxiolytic activity using an in vivo zebrafish larvae model. Chiral analysis using Gas Chromatography-Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry confirmed α-pinene as a scalemic mixture of (-)-α-pinene and (+)-α-pinene in B. carterii essential oil. In behavioral assays, B.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is a metabolic disorder requiring the administration of insulin or other oral hypoglycemic medicines. Although metformin is a popular prescription for type 2 diabetes, long-term use of chemotherapy-based diabetes medications can be hazardous. As a result, novel plant medicines with a high concentration of bioactive molecules, no harmful side effects, and potent pharmacological effects must be found. Edible Boswellia sacra (B. sacra) Flueck oleo-gum resin is widely utilized to treat many clinical diseases in traditional Arab, Chinese, African, and Ayurvedic medicine.
