Only rare cases of extraovarian Brenner tumors have been described. This report concerns one case of extraovarian Brenner tumor detected in close association with an extraovarian benign serous cystadenoma. Coexistence of these two tumors supports the theory of a common origin either from celomic epithelium or remnants of the embryonic mesonephric system.

Ovarian Brenner tumor is a rare type of ovarian epithelial neoplasm, predominantly benign, with only a minority exhibiting borderline or malignant characteristics. Malignant Brenner tumors (MBTs) resemble invasive urothelial carcinoma and often coexist with benign or borderline Brenner tumors. Clinically, they frequently present with non-specific symptoms, including abdominal pain and weight loss. We report the case of a 53-year-old female who presented with a mixed echoic mass in the left adnexa identified by gynecological ultrasound. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses of the

A 65-year-old woman with suspected ascites-associated abdominal distention had elevated CA125 levels. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography to search for the cause of the ascites showed bilateral pleural effusions, ascites, and an ovarian tumor. On magnetic resonance imaging the tumor exhibited a lobulated structure and markedly low signal intensity on both T1- and T2-weighted imaging, with no restrictions on diffusion-weighted images. Progressive enhancement was observed at tumor margins. Meigs syndrome due to fibroma was suspected, and total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and

BACKGROUND: Most frequent borderline ovarian tumors are serous and mucinous subtypes. Less frequent borderline diseases are endometrioid, clear-cell, and Brenner tumors (BBOT). Very little is known about the latter subtype, and most studies include very short series or case reports. The aim of this study is to determine the prognosis of a continuous series of BBOT and analyze data published in the literature on this rare entity.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of patients with BBOT treated or referred to our institutions was conducted. A centralized histological review by a refer

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal effiusion is rare in malignant Brenner tumors and has been found in only 10% of patients.
CASE: A 77-year-old woman presented with malignant Brenner tumor and ascites. The cytology of the ascitic fluid revealed many activated mesothelial cells intermingled with squamous tumoral cells. These cells were either isolated or arranged in small clusters. They were often round or oval with irregular and moderately hyperchromatic nuclei.
CONCLUSION: Presence of squamous cells in ascitic fluid associated with an ovarian tumor should raise the possible diagnosis of malignant Bren

Malignant Brenner Tumor (MBT) is a rare malignant neoplasm originating from the ovarian surface epithelium. This type of tumor typically lacks specific clinical manifestations and dedicated tumor markers. In our case, we present a complete set of clinical information, diagnosis and treatment protocols, and follow-up results of one case of MBT. We highlight the crucial role of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis and treatment process, which significantly improves the diagnostic accuracy for distinguishing benign from malignant tumors and predicts tumor invasiveness. Meanwhile, our case exhibits the

Mucinous carcinomas with signet ring cells in the ovary, particularly those composed predominantly of signet ring cells, are extremely rare, and in vast majority of cases, they represent metastasis from another site such as the stomach, appendix, pancreaticobiliary tract, bladder, and breast (Hristov et al., 2007, Kiyokawa et al., 2006, Vang et al., 2006, Young, 2006). Malignant Brenner tumor is also rare comprising less than 0.5% of ovarian carcinoma. Although mixed Brenner-Mucinous tumors are relatively common, the combination of a primary ovarian signet ring carcinoma with a malignant Brenn

Brenner tumor is a rare type tumor, which mainly develops in the ovaries and rarely in the adnexal region and urinary system. To the best of our knowledge, only 5 cases of testicular Brenner tumor have been reported to date. In this report, we present the case of a 55-year-old patient who noted a swelling of the right scrotum for ~20 days. The clinical suspicion was an epididymal cyst. However, following surgical resection and subsequent pathological examination, the mass was diagnosed as a testicular Brenner tumor. A supplementary review of previously published cases and literature is also pr

BACKGROUND: Malignant Brenner tumors are rare ovarian tumors, accounting for less than 1% of malignant ovarian neoplasms. The aim of this manuscript is to systematically review the current literature concerning malignant Brenner tumors.
METHODS: We searched three medical databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) for relevant articles published until 15 September 2023.
RESULTS: After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 48 manuscripts describing 115 cases were included in this study from the English literature.
CONCLUSIONS: We analyzed the demographic, clinical, pathological, and

BACKGROUND: Brenner tumors are rare ovarian neoplasms that often coexist with other epithelial tumors, most commonly mucinous cystic neoplasms. The association of Brenner tumors with endometriosis is unusual and not well-documented in the literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 64-year-old postmenopausal woman presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding and a left adnexal mass. Histopathologic examination revealed the synchronous presence of a benign Brenner tumor, mucinous cystadenoma, and a microscopic focus of endometriosis, all within the same ovary.
DISCUSSION: The simult

Hyperandrogenism in postmenopausal females may arise from either ovarian or adrenal sources and can pose a challenging diagnostic dilemma. We present the case of a 66-year-old female with postmenopausal hyperandrogenism with virilization, adrenal incidentaloma, and concurrent finding of two extremely rare ovarian tumors, including bilateral Leydig cell tumor and Brenner tumor. Laboratory tests showed elevated testosterone and androstenedione and normal dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS). Response to 1 mg overnight dexamethasone suppression test demonstrated persistently elevated testostero

Background and Clinical Significance: Brenner tumors are rare epithelial tumors that can occur in both males and females. They consist of ovarian transition cells surrounded by dense fibrous tissue and can be classified as benign, borderline, or malignant. While most commonly found in the ovary, extraovarian Brenner tumors (EOBTs) have been reported in the uterus, vagina, broad ligament, and omentum. Case Presentation: A 71-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with a polypous formation on the upper third of the posterior vaginal wall, which was found at a routine health check. Macroscopical

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: To date, there have been disparate reports regarding borderline forms of Brenner tumors, while research on concomitant mucinous proliferation is even more irregular; however, it has been observed that proper diagnosis and treatment have proven to have a favorable prognosis on the aforementioned tumor.
ABSTRACT: Brenner tumor is a rare epithelial ovarian neoplasm responsible for 2%-3% of all ovarian tumors. These tumors are usually asymptomatic and can usually be found incidentally in pathological studies. They can also manifest themselves as abdominal pain or abnormal ut

BACKGROUND: Extraovarian Brenner tumors (EOBTs) are extremely rare and can be observed incidentally in both female and male patients, raising concerns regarding the origin of Brenner tumors.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 53-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with a nodular lesion in the left side of the corpus uteri, which was found at a routine health check. Macroscopically, the lesion appeared as a solid nodule with a yellowish-gray cut surface, approximately 6 cm in greatest diameter. Microscopically, the lesion consisted of well-defined epithelial nests and spindled stromal cells. Parenchymal

Brenner tumors are ovarian epithelial tumors that can be benign, borderline, or malignant. This report highlights a case of a patient with postmenopausal bleeding and elevated estradiol associated with a Brenner tumor. A 59-year-old woman, menopausal for seven years, presented with postmenopausal bleeding for the past month. An ultrasound done four years prior to presentation revealed a right adnexal mass likely to be a fibrous lesion. An office endometrial biopsy done at the time of presentation showed a weakly proliferative endometrium. The patient was then prescribed a course of medroxyprog

OBJECTIVE: In order to improve the preoperative diagnostic accuracy, the computed tomographic (CT) features of ovarian Brenner tumor were described and analyzed.
METHODS: CT image and clinical data of nine patients with pathologically confirmed Brenner tumor were collected and analyzed retrospectively. There were 8 benign lesions and 1 borderline lesion.
RESULTS: All lesions in the nine cases were unilateral, round, lobulated or irregular in shape and well defined, in a mean diameter of 7.8 cm. Among the nine cases, 5 were benign tumors with uniform structure, 3 were benign tumors accompanie

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Brenner tumor (BT) is a rare ovarian epithelial tumor, with approximately 95% of cases being benign. Because of its rarity and nonspecific clinical radiological features, benign BT may mimic ovarian malignancy. We present a case of a benign BT with clinical, radiological, and intraoperative findings suggestive of malignancy.
METHOD: A 69-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with progressive abdominal enlargement, abdominal pain, and a 10 kg weight loss over 2 months. Ultrasonography showed an ovarian mass with both benign and malignant IOTA features, whereas risk of ma

BACKGROUND: Uterine carcinosarcoma is a rare, highly aggressive malignancy characterized by both carcinomatous and sarcomatous components. Brenner tumors of the ovary are uncommon epithelial neoplasms, usually benign but occasionally coexisting with other pathologies. The co-occurrence of these two entities is extremely rare and poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
METHODS: We report a case of a 58-year-old female presenting with scant yellowish vaginal discharge. Imaging studies revealed an intrauterine mass. Histopathological analysis of curettage specimens confirmed endometrial mal

Although there are several reports of Brenner tumor showing estrogen activities, it is an extremely rare cause of androgen excess leading to virilism, and the source or mechanism of its androgen production is also unknown at present. A 74-year-old woman presented with lower abdominal pain and increased facial hair growth of 6-month duration. Bilateral ovarian tumors were detected, and her serum testosterone (1.7 ng/mL) and estradiol (75 pg/mL) levels were elevated. Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. The ovarian tumors were diagnosed as benign Brenner tumor associated with fibrothec
