A water-soluble boronic acid sensor for caffeic acid based on double sites recognition.

Due to reversibly and covalently binding with Lewis bases and polyols, boronic acid compounds as fluorescent sensors have been widely reported to recognize carbohydrates, ions, hydrogen peroxide, and so on. However, boronic acid sensors for highly selective recognition of caffeic acid rather than catechol or catechol derivatives have not been reported yet. Herein a novel water-soluble sensor 5c with double recognition sites based on a boronic acid was reported. When 2.3 × 10-4 M of caffeic acid was added, the fluorescence intensity of sensor 5c decreased by 99.6% via inner filter effect (IFE)

Structural Basis for the Inhibition of a Phospholipase A2-Like Toxin by Caffeic and Aristolochic Acids.

One of the main challenges in toxicology today is to develop therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of snake venom injuries that are not efficiently neutralized by conventional serum therapy. Venom phospholipases A2 (PLA2s) and PLA2-like proteins play a fundamental role in skeletal muscle necrosis, which can result in permanent sequelae and disability. This leads to economic and social problems, especially in developing countries. In this work, we performed structural and functional studies with Piratoxin-I, a Lys49-PLA2 from Bothropspirajai venom, complexed with two compounds present in s

Synthesis and Biological Activity Assessment of Caffeic Acid Azaheterocyclic Amide Derivatives.

Natural caffeic acid derivatives are ubiquitous plant phenolic compounds with documented antitumor, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory bioactivities. However, their clinical application is limited by low bioactivity potency and poor stability. Therefore, rational design and synthesis of novel caffeic acid derivatives are critical to improve their druglikeness and broaden biomedical applications. Herein, fourteen amide derivatives (H1-H14) were synthesized by conjugating three 3,4-substituted caffeic acid skeletons with five nitrogen-containing heterocycles. Bioactivity evaluation revealed that

Caffeic Acid as a Promising Natural Feed Additive: Advancing Sustainable Aquaculture.

Caffeic acid (CA), a plant-derived phenolic compound, is emerging as a promising natural feed additive for sustainable aquaculture. Its growth-promoting, immunomodulatory, and antimicrobial activities suggest utility as an alternative that diminishes antibiotic use in fish farming. Evidence across multiple species indicates improvements in innate immune responses, enhanced antioxidant capacity, and increased survival during pathogen challenge. Nevertheless, adoption remains limited by unresolved questions regarding optimal inclusion levels, species-specific physiological responses, interaction

Structure-activity relationship of caffeic acid analogues on xanthine oxidase inhibition.

Caffeic acid has been reported to have activity on xanthine oxidase inhibition which is related to several diseases, e.g. gout, hepatitis and tumors. Based on this study, the alpha, beta-unsaturated COOH moiety in the molecule of caffeic acid plays a very important role on the xanthine oxidase inhibition because hydrocaffeic acid was inactive and the activities of coniferyl aldehyde and coniferyl alcohol were reduced as compared with ferulic acid. Moreover, chlorogenic acid showed a weaker activity than caffeic acid. On the other hand, the phenolic OH group present in the molecule of caffeic a

Protective activity of caffeic acid and sinapic acid against UVB-induced photoaging in human fibroblasts.

In this study, the protective effects of caffeic acid (CA) and sinapic acid (SA) on photoaging in human skin fibroblasts induced by UVB irradiation (30 mJ/cm2 ) were examined. The results revealed that exposure to UVB irradiation reduced cell viability by approximately 33% compared with the non-UVB irradiated control. However, CA and SA blocked the UVB irradiation-induced cytotoxicity greater than the other phenolic acids. CA and SA also significantly inhibited the release of matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1) and reduced the expression of MMP-1 mRNA in UVB-irradiated Hs68 cells. Furthermore,

The cell membranes undergo biochemical and biophysical changes in response to hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives: ferulic acid and caffeic acid.

Ferulic acid (FA) and caffeic acid (CA), due to their strong antioxidant properties, are widely used both in dietary supplements and as ingredients in cosmetics. However, despite the undoubtedly beneficial properties of these molecules, they can also exhibit toxic effects. This study aimed to investigate which concentrations of the compounds are toxic for different types of cells and which are beneficial. Detailed analyses were performed on human cells (U937, HL-60, SK-N-SH) and mouse cells (B16-F0), as well as on cell membrane models created using the Langmuir technique. Based on biochemical
