Background This randomized clinical trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of three concentrations of carbamide peroxide (CP) (10%, 22%, and 35%) for at-home tooth bleaching with reduced application times for the higher concentrations, comparing color change and tooth sensitivity to determine whether higher CP concentrations applied for shorter durations achieve equivalent or superior whitening outcomes without increasing patient discomfort. This study aimed to evaluate whether in adults aged 18-60 years with a baseline shade of A2 or darker (Population), does 22% or 35% CP for 30 minutes/day

Carbamide Peroxide is routinely employed as a whitener for tooth enamel. Oral mucosa protection is recommended to avoid inflammatory reactions. Experimental work has demonstrated its irritative effect on gastric mucosa when swallowed. The activity of certain oxidizing agents as tumoral promoters has been demonstrated and associated to their capacity to induce hyperplasia. Within this context it seemed of interest to assess the possible action of carbamide peroxide as a tumoral promoter in oral mucosa with or without a precancerous condition. Its action was tested in 2 models which are highly s

Present tooth-bleaching techniques are based upon hydrogen peroxide as the active agent. It is applied directly, or produced in a chemical reaction from sodium perborate or carbamide peroxide. More than 90% immediate success has been reported for intracoronal bleaching of non-vital teeth, and in the period of 1-8 years' observation time, from 10 to 40% of the initially successfully treated teeth needed re-treatment. Cervical root resorption is a possible consequence of internal bleaching and is more frequently observed in teeth treated with the thermo-catalytic procedure. When the external too

OBJECTIVES: Tooth-whitening treatments in modern dentistry often led to enamel demineralization and sensitivity. This study explored potassium sodium tartrate, a piezoelectric material which employs a piezoelectricity effect to gently remove stains, as a non-invasive alternative to traditional peroxide-based whitening methods which chemically oxidize extrinsic stains causing enamel demineralization and sensitivity. Specifically, the research measured stain removal, enamel integrity, addressing common drawbacks of peroxide treatments.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The research was focused on two in v

OBJECTIVES: To critically evaluate current and emerging intracoronal bleaching agents and to provide an evidence-informed framework for clinical decision-making in the postsodium perborate era.
OVERVIEW: The declining availability of sodium perborate, particularly within the European Union, has substantially altered contemporary intracoronal bleaching practice. A narrative review was conducted using a structured PubMed/MEDLINE literature search and manual reference screening. Evidence regarding bleaching efficacy, biological safety, peroxide diffusion, cervical root resorption, dentin-related

AIM: To evaluate the extraradicular pH and hydrogen peroxide (HP) diffusion when either 35% carbamide peroxide (CP), 35% HP or sodium perborate (SP) is used for intracoronal bleaching of artificially discoloured teeth.
METHODOLOGY: Single rooted extracted human premolars were stained with whole blood cells. After shaping and cleaning, they were root filled and a base cement placed 1 mm below the buccal cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Four cemental defects were prepared just below the CEJ on each root surface. The teeth were randomly divided into four groups of 11 specimens, and intracoronally b

Dentist-prescribed, at-home bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide was used to lighten the apparent color of teeth with preexisting porcelain veneers. Veneers had been placed over unprepared, tetracycline-stained teeth; the translucency of the veneers over the discolored teeth resulted in a graying of the veneers. A custom-fitted tray with no reservoirs and no gingival scalloping was fabricated. A 10% carbamide peroxide material was applied nightly for 9 months to achieve the maximum change in the underlying tooth color. The patient was pleased with the apparent color change. Tooth sensitivity

OBJECTIVE: Various bleaching modalities are now offered to patients, either monitored by the dental office or self-directed, for which relative efficacy is unknown. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the ability of different bleaching products and protocols to lighten enamel and dentin.
METHOD AND MATERIALS: Bovine tooth samples of standardized thickness (2.5 +/- 0.025 mm with similar dentin and enamel thicknesses) were prepared and stained with whole blood and hemolysate before being submitted to 11 different bleaching regimens: home bleaching using 10%, 15%, 16%, or 20% carbamid

Hydrogen peroxide in the form of carbamide peroxide is widely used for tooth whitening (bleaching), both in professionally- and in self-administered products. Adverse effects have become evident. Cervical root resorption is a possible consequence of internal bleaching and is more frequently observed in teeth treated with the thermo-catalytic procedure. Tooth sensitivity is experienced in 15-78% of patients undergoing external tooth bleaching. However, clinical studies addressing other adverse effects are lacking. Direct contact with hydrogen peroxide induces genotoxic effects in bacteria and c

AC electrokinetics (ACEK) has been shown to deliver certain drugs into human teeth more effectively than diffusion. However, using electrical wires to power intraoral ACEK devices poses risks to patients. The study demonstrates a novel interdigitated electrode arrays (IDE) assembly powered by inductive coupling to induce ACEK effects at appropriate frequencies to motivate drugs wirelessly. A signal generator produces the modulating signal, which multiplies with the carrier signal to produce the amplitude modulated (AM) signal. The AM signal goes through the inductive link to appear on the seco

Intracoronal bleaching of pulpless discolored mandibular incisors is a valuable treatment modality currently disregarded by many clinicians because of the potentially disastrous consequence of cervical resorption. A patient-administered, intracoronal carbamide peroxide bleaching technique is described. This modified, walking bleaching method minimizes the risks because treatment time is reduced to days, as opposed to weeks with the original walking bleaching protocol, the concentration of the hydrogen peroxide is markedly reduced, and residual hydrogen peroxide is completely eliminated with th
