Acinar cell carcinoma of the pancreatobiliary system is a relatively rare malignant neoplasm arising usually in the pancreatic parenchyma. We experienced a 68-year-old woman who presented with obstructive jaundice due to an ampullary mass 1.0 cm in diameter, detected by abdominal computed tomography and endoscopic examination. The patient underwent a curative surgical operation, and histopathological examination revealed that the tumor was confined to the ampulla of Vater with no continuity to the pancreatic parenchyma. The tumor cells showed acinar or tubular arrangement with eosinophilic to

We report a case of acinar cell carcinoma of the pancreas with colon involvement that was difficult to distinguish from primary colon cancer. A 60-year-old man was admitted with a 1-month history of diarrhea. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed a large tumor (10.6 × 11.6 cm) at the splenic flexure of the colon. Colonoscopy showed completely round ulcerative lesions, and biopsy revealed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Left hemicolectomy, resection of the jejunum and pancreas body and tail, and splenectomy were performed based on a diagnosis of descending colon cancer (cT4N

Acinar cell carcinoma (ACC) of the pancreas is a rare malignancy accounting for < 1% of pancreatic neoplasms. We report the clinical and biological characteristics of this carcinoma from two cases that were of interest because of their similar presentation: extensive subcutaneous fat necroses from excessive lipase production by these tumors. Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural analyses of both tumors were consistent with an acinar cell line origin. Recognition of the association between subcutaneous panniculitis and pancreatic neoplasm may prevent long delays in the diagnosis and treatment

Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a pancreatic mass in a 67-year-old man with diabetes mellitus. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration led to the histological diagnosis of acinar cell carcinoma. The clinical stage was determined to be IVb based on findings of multiple metastatic lesions in the liver and lymph nodes, as well as splenic vein infiltration. Because the patient was not a surgical candidate, he underwent chemotherapy with modified FOLFIRINOX. In the absence of any severe adverse events, 12 courses of chemotherapy were delivered, resulting in marked shrinkage of both t

This report concerns a case of pancreatic carcinoma with widespread metastases to many organs including intracranial metastasis. An eleven-year-old, male, mixed-breed dog showed emaciation, ataxia, and multiple visible tumors within the neck. A MRI examination of the patient was conducted because of ataxia, and it was found that the intracranial invasive growth had resulted in compression of the brain stem. Necropsy was performed after the patient died. Based on gross and microscopic examination, the primary tumor cells were located in the left lobe of the pancreas and widespread metastasis wa

Seventeen patients with histologically proven pancreatic cancers were studied in order to clarify the relationship of histologic types to plasma carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) values. Two cases with marked elevation of plasma CEA values having 6100 ng/ml and 2500 ng/ml, respectively, disclosed histologically acinar cell carcinoma and mixed acinar and ductal cell carcinoma, respectively. Despite of massive hepatic metastases, the other 15 cases with ductal cell carcinoma, including 3 cases with cystadenocarcinoma, adenoacanthoma, and undifferentiated pancreatic cancer, respectively, showed norm

INTRODUCTION: Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (pACC) is a rare malignancy with unique clinical and molecular features. The role of chemotherapy in pACC management is not well established.
METHODS: The National Cancer Database (NCDB) for pACC was used. Cox regression was used in resected pACC patients to identify significant overall survival (OS) predictors. Patients were then divided based on these risk factors into propensity-matched group of surgery versus surgery + chemotherapy and Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed with log-rank tests to compare OS.
RESULTS: The NCDB 2004-2020 included

BACKGROUND: Acinar cell carcinoma (ACC) is a rare pancreatic neoplasm, representing 1% of exocrine tumours and containing a variable endocrine component. Three recent cases of ACC are reported.
CASE OUTLINES: A 72-year-old man with painless obstructive jaundice had a 5-cm mass in the head of pancreas resected by Whipple's operation; histopathological examination showed a typical ACC. A 33-year-old man with weight loss and abnormal liver function had a dilated biliary tree but no mass on imaging. Pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy was performed, and histology showed a mixed acinar-neuro-

Pancreatic panniculitis is a rare skin manifestation associated with pancreatic conditions. This condition has similar characteristics to those of other panniculitis types and its course parallels the triggering condition and may occasionally precede it. We report the case of a female patient with asymptomatic pancreatic panniculitis; the etiologic study identified a pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma with liver metastases.

We report the case of a 68-year-old white woman who presented with painful, 1- to 4-cm, erythematous nodules located bilaterally on the anterior and medial shins that had progressively developed and worsened over the last month. Workup revealed pancreatic panniculitis (PP) secondary to acinar cell carcinoma of the pancreas (ACCP). The unique clinicopathologic features, differential diagnosis, underlying causes, associated laboratory and clinical findings, pathophysiology, treatments, and appropriate workup for PP also are reviewed.

CONTEXT: Acinar cell carcinoma is a rare pancreatic malignant tumor, which can be associated with a particular manifestation: pancreatic panniculitis. It presents with erythematous subcutaneous nodules located mainly on the legs. The skin lesions can precede, be concurrent with or follow the pancreatic illness. The pathogenesis is not fully understood, but it is believed to be associated with high levels of serum lipase produced by the neoplasm, causing fat necrosis in tissues. The treatment of pancreatic panniculitis is directed at the underlying pancreatic disease, which may result in regres

A case of pancreatic acinar cell tumor (ACC) is presented in a 10-year-old boy. The tumor manifested clinically with Cushing's syndrome, high serum adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol concentrations. In addition, excessive serum levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) were detected. Surgical resection was not possible due to retroperitoneal invasion. Biopsy of the mass showed a solid, poorly differentiated ACC of the pancreas. Periodic acid Schiff positive cytoplasmic granules, trypsinogen, keratins, alpha-1-antitrypsin, and AFP were identified in the tumor cells. Electron microscopy dem

A 50-year-old female presented with abdominal pain. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a 30 mm ulcerative lesion extending from the duodenal bulb to the descending portion, and biopsy confirmed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Abdominal contrast-enhanced CT scan showed an hypovascular tumor in the pancreatic head with suspected invasion into the duodenum, along with enlarged #8 lymph node. PET-CT revealed abnormal uptake in the pancreatic head and #8 lymph node. She underwent robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy for a diagnosis of pancreatic head cancer with lymph node metastasis. Histo

Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma is a rare type of pancreatic malignancy, which can be confused with pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm. Here, we describe a woman in her 80s who presented with abdominal pain and bilateral lower extremity panniculitis. She underwent surgery for a presumed diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumour with PTEN and PRKAR1A alterations; 19 months, later, a recurrence of her pancreatic malignancy was discovered. The patient underwent repeat resection and this time immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of acinar cell carcinoma. Staining for acinar cell carcinom

Mixed carcinoma of the pancreas is defined as the concurrent existence of pancreatic ductal carcinoma, acinar cell carcinoma, and/or islet cell carcinoma within the same neoplasm. We herein report a rare case of mixed ductal-acinar cell carcinoma in a 74-year-old man who was undergoing treatment for hypertension and diabetes at another hospital. After an abrupt worsening of his blood glucose control, the patient was referred to our hospital for further evaluation. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tumor with a multilocular cystic lesion i
