Estrogen receptors in ductal carcinoma in situ of breast.

A number of investigators have suggested treatment of precursor lesions for invasive breast cancer such as ductal carcinoma in situ with antiestrogen. However, very little information is available on the incidence of estrogen receptor in such lesions and the probability of treatment success. Fourteen formalin-fixed tissue specimens of intraductal carcinoma in situ from 14 female patients aged 40 to 66 years were evaluated for the presence of estrogen receptor by immunoperoxidase technique using estrogen receptor antibody. Eight of the 14 lesions (57%) were positive for estrogen receptor. The i

Diagnostic Value of Ultrasound Elastography in the Differentiation of Breast Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and Ductal Carcinoma In situ.

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound elastography (US-E) has been shown superior to the conventional US in diagnosing benign and malignant breast lesions. In contrast, the role of US-E in the differentiation of breast invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) has been poorly described. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to examine the diagnostic value of US-E in the differentiation of IDC and DCIS. METHODS: Medical records of all patients who underwent preoperative US-E evaluation and were diagnosed with IDC or DCIS at our hospital from April-December 2019 were retrieved and anal

Synchronous primary breast angiosarcoma with invasive ductal carcinoma.

Primary angiosarcoma (PAS) of the breast is an extremely uncommon variant of breast malignancies. Highly aggressiveness and dismal prognosis characterize this endothelial neoplasm. We report here an unusual case of PAS of the breast occurring in a 46-year-old woman associated with concurrent bilateral invasive ductal carcinoma and ovarian metastases.

Primary invasive ductal carcinoma of axillary accessory breast.

Primary accessory breast cancer is an extremely rare pathology, representing less than 1 % of all breast cancers, and it is found in more than 90 % of cases in the axilla. The diagnosis of accessory axillary breast cancer (AABC) is often late and at an advanced stage with an average delay of 40.5 months. Histological sampling and immunohistochemical results confirm the diagnosis. Most patients are diagnosed with stage II disease or higher, so it is considered to have a poor prognosis. There is no specific management for AABC; it follows the guidelines for orthotopic pectoral breast cancer. We

[Ocular metastasis revealing ductal carcinoma of the breast].

We report the case of a 56-year old female patient, with no particular past medical history, presenting at the Emergency Department with decreased visual acuity in the right eye occurred 2 weeks before. Ophthalmologic examination showed reduced visual acuity to perception of hand movements. Fundus examination showed serous retinal detachment associated with subretinal mass occupying almost the entirety of the vitreous cavity (A). B-mode scan was performed which objectified isoechoic choroidal mass (B) with vascularization on Doppler (C) without any excavation, measuring 18 mm along its longer

[Association of pulmonary carcinoma and ductal breast cancer].

Multiple primary cancers are relatively rare. The association between lung and breast cancer is exceptional and requires genetic research and predisposing factors. We report the case of a female patient of 43years, hospitalized for atelectasis of the left lung with breast lumps. Bronchial biopsies have concluded a primary lung adenocarcinoma. Breast biopsy objectified ductal invasive breast cancer. The treatment was a palliative chemotherapy. The evolution is marked by the early death of the patient. Although the association of multiple cancers is rare, their discovery requires a particular tr

Management of Neuroendocrine Ductal Carcinoma In Situ of the Breast.

Neuroendocrine tumors are defined as tumors that express neuroendocrine markers, specifically synaptophysin and/or chromogranin in at least 50% of tumor cells. To date, neuroendocrine cancers of the breast are extremely rare with reports that they account for less than 1% of all neuroendocrine tumors and less than .1% of all breast cancers. Limited literature exists to guide treatment decisions tailored to neuroendocrine tumors of the breast, despite the possibility that they may be associated with an overall worse prognosis. We present a rare case of neuroendocrine ductal carcinoma in situ (N

Treatments and Prognosis of the Breast Ductal Carcinoma In Situ.

INTRODUCTION: With progress in treatments, breast ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) outcomes have substantially improved. However, as various treatment methods are used in different countries and institutions, consensus on the optimal treatment method is lacking. This study aimed to analyze the prognostic factors and provide a reference for optimizing the clinical treatment of DCIS. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective clinical study collected data from DCIS patients at the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from 2010 to 2017. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression model were used to

Management of lobular carcinoma in situ and ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast.

Mammographic screening has resulted in an epidemic of diagnoses of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). These are often small, impalpable lesions that do not reflect the natural history of older series of DCIS found by palpation at a larger size. The behavior of DCIS is related to the histological grade and size of the tumor. Therapy is primarily surgical excision. Irradiation has been shown to halve the rate of recurrence after local excision. Therapeutic decisions involving the extent of surgical excision and the addition of irradiation are based on considerations of tumor size and grade and the

[Clear cell renal cell carcinoma metastasized by a breast ductal carcinoma].

OBJECTIVE: To report a clear cell renal cell carcinoma recipient of a metastasizing ductal carcinoma of the breast: A tumor-to-tumor metastasis. METHODS: A 71 year-old woman with a past history of breast carcinoma, diagnosed 12 years before, underwent a nephrectomy for an incidental kidney mass found in a routine imaging examination. RESULTS: Histological examination revealed foci of ductal carcinoma of the breast in an otherwise typical clear cell renal cell carcinoma of the kidney. Immunohistochemical examination confirmed a metastasis of an infiltrating breast carcinoma to a clear cell re

Cancerization of lobules and atypical ductal hyperplasia adjacent to ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast.

Recurrent carcinoma develops in approximately 10% of patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast treated with local excision and radiation therapy. Cancerization of lobules (COL) and atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH)frequently occur at the edge of DCIS. We postulated that recurrent carcinoma is associated with ADH or COL near the DCIS excision margin, and the amount of DCIS left in the breast may be too large for eradication by radiation therapy. To identify histologic features associated with recurrence, we retrospectively studied specimens of 94 patients with DCIS treated by

Triexponential Diffusion Analysis of Diffusion-weighted Imaging for Breast Ductal Carcinoma in Situ and Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.

PURPOSE: To obtain detailed information in breast ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) using triexponential diffusion analysis. METHODS: Diffusion-weighted images (DWI) of the breast were obtained using single-shot diffusion echo-planar imaging with 15 b-values. Mean signal intensities at each b-value were measured in the DCIS and IDC lesions and fitted with the triexponential function based on a two-step approach: slow-restricted diffusion coefficient (Ds) was initially determined using a monoexponential function with b-values > 800 s/mm2. The diffusion coeffic

Metastatic ductal eccrine adenocarcinoma masquerading as an invasive ductal carcinoma of the male breast.

We report the case of a 38-year-old man with metastatic ductal eccrine adenocarcinoma (DEA) of the left breast responding to 5-flourouracil, epirubicin and cyclophosphamide (FEC) chemotherapy. He initially presented with a 2-week history of difficulty walking because of bilateral hip and lower back pain. Examination showed an ulcerating cutaneous mass over the left anterior chest wall, left axillary lymphadenopathy and tenderness over the spine. A punch biopsy of the breast lesion resulted in a diagnosis of metastatic invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast. He received palliative radiot

Aberrant expression of MUC1 mucin in ductal hyperplasia and ductal carcinoma In situ of the breast.

MUC1 mucin is a high molecular weight transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on the apical cell surface of normal glandular epithelia. In many human adenocarcinomas, this protein is up-regulated and/or underglycosylated, and its expression changes from apical to the entire cell membrane. It is thought that entire cell membrane expression of MUC1 reduces cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions and therefore may facilitate invasive growth and development of metastases. In this study, we determined immunohistochemically the expression of normal and underglycosylated MUC1 in normal brea

Immunohistochemical expression of E-cadherin in sclerosing adenosis, ductal carcinoma in situ and invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast.

E-cadherin (EC) is an important glycoprotein cell-adhesion molecule that appears to play a significant role in the progression of breast lesions. The objective of this study was to evaluate EC expression in sclerosing adenosis, ductal carcinoma in situ and invasive ductal carcinoma. Samples of breast lesions from 44 women were used in this study, comprising cases of sclerosing adenosis (n = 11), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) (n = 10) and invasive ductal carcinoma (n = 23). Immunohistochemical evaluation of EC expression was assessed semiquantitatively and considered negative (<10% of cells w

Comparative features of ductal carcinoma in situ and infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast on fine-needle aspiration biopsy.

To evaluate the usefulness of fine-needle aspiration biopsy of the breast in separating ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) from infiltrating ductal carcinoma, the authors reviewed 16 preoperative fine-needle aspiration biopsies from biopsy-proven exclusive DCIS and 39 fine-needle aspiration biopsies from infiltrating ductal carcinomas with or without an in situ component. Seven (44%) of the DCIS and eight (21%) of the infiltrating ductal carcinomas had inadequate material for diagnosis on the aspiration biopsy. Five (32%) of the DCIS and 29 (74%) of the infiltrating ductal carcinomas caused suspi

Lymphoepithelioma-like Carcinoma of the Breast Synchronous with a High-Grade Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and Ductal Carcinoma in Situ in a Different Quadrant of the Same Breast: A Case Report.

Lymphoepithelioma-like breast carcinoma (LELC) is a rare type of malignant breast tumor that is not included in the current edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of breast tumors. Currently, there are no clearly defined therapeutic strategies, and the general information on breast LELC is based on sporadic clinical cases described in the medical literature. We present a clinical case that describes a 49-year-old woman with a tumor formation in the right breast, histologically verified as LELC, together with a non-palpable, synchronous high-grade invasive ductal carcinom
