A 75-year-old woman with full dentures had a progressive growth on the tongue for the past 15 years. She reported ulceration of the lesion 4 months prior that was accompanied by pain and odinophagia. She denied addiction to alcohol or tobacco. On examination, there was an ulcerated, vegetating, verrucous lesion, with yellow-whitish areas intermingled with erythematous areas, being infiltrated and having well-defined borders, on almost all areas of the back of the tongue (Figure 1). No adjacent lymphadenopathy was found. Biopsy of the tongue was compatible with verrucous carcinoma demonstrating

Verrucous carcinoma is a distinctive form of low-grade squamous cell carcinoma. It typically involves the oral cavity, larynx, esophagus, and skin. Cutaneous lesions typically arise in the genitocrural area and plantar surface of the foot, with rare case reports of verrucous carcinoma arising elsewhere on the body. Human papillomaviruses, predominately types 6 and 11, have been associated with some case reports. We present a case of verrucous carcinoma arising on the scalp with negative human papillomavirus testing in a relatively young patient.

The present work shows a retrospective study of 11 cases of verrucous carcinoma of the larynx from data collected at Marqués de Valdecilla Hospital for ten years. All patients were males. Glottis was the most common site involved (10 cases). Eight patients were treated with partial surgery and in two cases total laryngectomy was performed. One patient refused treatment. Five-year survival rates were 100% in the ten patients treated. Verrucous carcinoma of the larynx is a well differentiated variant of squamous cell carcinoma. Surgical treatment is necessary for the primary lesion without neck

In spite of a small percentage of laryngeal cancer, verrucous carcinoma of the larynx is an important diagnostic and therapeutic issue, due to its specific biological behavior and reaction to different therapeutic procedures. Verrucous carcinoma is free of histologic characteristics of malignancy, the lymph node and visceral metastasis. In our series of laryngeal cancer, we had 2.47% of verrucous carcinoma. The glottis was involved in all cases, and the treatment was surgical. Histologic characteristics of the tumour are discussed, and our clinical material analysed. The importance of a precis

Malignant tumors of the penis are rare, and constitute only 1% of all tumors in males. The disease is more common in the black population of the USA due to genetic links and the rarity of circumcision. Penile carcinoma is extremely rare in Israel, only 10 cases having been reported during a period of 20 years. Verrucous carcinoma, often called giant condyloma acuminata, constitutes a subgroup of squamous cell carcinoma of the penis. The first description was by Buschke in 1925, and was followed by that of Loewenstein in 1939. The tumor is usually limited to the penile glans and does not invade

Verrucous carcinoma of the vagina is a highly differentiated and rare variety of squamous-cell carcinoma. Two new cases are presented; a search for the literature revealed three other cases. This neoplasm is characterized by a warty verrucous pattern of growth of squamous epithelium. Histologically, this type of squamous-cell carcinoma is extremely well-differentiated, with minimal evidence of anaplasia of the cells. The neoplasm tends to grow slowly and to infiltrate, sometimes extensively, by pushing rather than by permeating the surrounding tissues. Surgical excision seems to provide the be

1. Florid Papillomatosis (FP) seems to be another form of verrucous carcinoma. 2. Besides the mouth, FP can be found in the larynx, nose, genitalia, skin, etc. 3. FP would appear to be a carcinoma with a low degree of malignancy, and is locally aggressive. They do not cause generalized metastases and rarely metastasize locally. 4. In the mouth, the lesions, either single or multiple, usually occur in adult men. The most frequent sites are the buccal mucosa and the alveolar-gingival area. They develop on a healthy mucosa, or on preexisting lesions, namely, leukoplakia, atypical lichen, abrasive

Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) types 6 and 11 are usually associated with benign genital condylomata, but here we describe an extreme case of verrucous carcinoma associated with HPV 6 in a patient too embarrassed to seek early medical advice.

A seventy-five-year-old man with a four-month history of dysuria had a verrucous squamous carcinoma harbored within a bladder diverticulum. Whereas this low-grade malignancy occasionally develops in bilharzial specimens, its occurrence in schistosome egg-negative bladders is distinctly uncommon, having been the subject of only 1 previous case report.

BACKGROUND: Oral verrucous hyperplasia (VH) and verrucous carcinoma (VC) are two clinicopathologically distinctive oral verrucous lesions. The objective of this study was to investigate the clinicopathological features of the two verrucous lesions and estimate their relationship from China.
METHODS: Retrospective review of two series of patients with histologically confirmed VH (n = 121) and VC (n = 56) between 1996 and 2009 in our hospital were conducted.
RESULTS: The average age of VH was 58.5 years (ratio male:female = 1.37) with the tongue being the predominant site. The average age of V

Verrucous carcinoma (VC) is a relatively rare locally aggressive, slow-growing, well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with minimal metastatic potential and is most frequent in the mucosa. Although rarely reported on the skin, cutaneous verrucous carcinomas (CVC) can appear anywhere, most commonly on the feet. However, clinical and pathologic diagnosis of CVC has been confusing and challenging. It can easily be mistaken for benign or more malignant conditions such as giant condyloma acuminata, keratoacanthoma, and pseudoepithelioma-like hyperplasia or squamous cell carcinoma, resulting in

Verrucous carcinoma (VC) of the nail bed and matrix is a rare malignancy that is often misdiagnosed as a benign condition. We present a case of a 65-year-old woman with a 2-year history of a progressive right fourth fingernail verrucous plaque replacing and surrounding her entire fourth fingernail. Diagnosis of VC was confirmed by a longitudinal biopsy and patient underwent en bloc excision and skin graft placement. The patient remained disease free with acceptable function of the digit at 24 months of follow-up. Although uncommon, VC must be considered in all patients with a persistent and en

We report a case of a verrucous carcinoma of the renal pelvis after a long history of a renal pelvis stone. Only 1 case of verrucous carcinoma of the renal pelvis has been previously reported, and ours is the first case not associated with a horseshoe kidney.

A case report of a patient suffering from severe otalgia for 12 months and intermittent otorrhoea over a 53 year period is presented. Diagnosed as verrucous carcinoma of the temporal bone, this is only the ninth case found in the literature. The difficulty of histological diagnosis and subsequent management are important features.

A case of a highly destructive, cytologically nondysplastic squamous epithelial lesion of the middle ear is presented. The cranial nerve involvement and bone destruction are more extensive than has been seen in cholesteatoma. Cultures are negative for Pseudomonas, and the patient does not have the reported diathesis for malignant otitis externa. The gross and microscopic features are those of verrucous carcinoma. To our knowledge, the middle ear has not been previously reported as a site of involvement by verrucous carcinoma.

RESULTS: The mean age of patients was 78 years (66-97 years). Eleven patients exhibited verrucous carcinoma in a pre

A 67 year old male caucasian clerical worker with a background of long-standing gastro-oesophageal reflux-like dyspepsia and bronchiectasis presented to a tertiary hospital gastroenterology unit with a recent onset of dysphagia. An initial diagnosis of achalasia was made and within 1 year an established verrucous carcinoma of the upper oesophagus had developed. The tumour was inoperable due to tracheal invasion and therefore palliative treatment was given. The patient developed a tracheo-oesophageal fistula and died of pneumonia. Thus, verrucous squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus can oc
